I, personally, wasn't that impressed. I thought it was ok, but I personally liked the old one better. The graphics were pathetic in the old one, but I personally think it was more to the book. After seeing LOTR, I involuntarily compare it to LOTR and I really don't think there will ever be a better movie. I mean, if LOTR hadn't been made, there wouldn't have been an Arwen-Undomiel.com, would there? I think in this version of Narnia they modernized it too much. Just my opinion.

I totally loved it, and I agree there was some modernization. You're going to get that. I wasn't too happy with some of the lines they threw in and took out, but when you look at the entire movie, this is just a small complaint--a justified complaint nonetheless--but considering everything else the movie had to offer, that one thing wouldn't ruin the movie for me. (And no fair comparing it to the Almighty LotR!!! ;) ) Overall though I found it done very well. I suppose it's a matter of opinion.

Yesh, but LOTR is so perfect! And this version of Chronicles of Narnia was so...different. I think you should see the old one too. It's a more accurate representation of the story. I really recommend it! :-D

Which old one, the BBC? I saw BBC The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, that was really good!

And, come on, we know LotR is perfect. ;) No fair comparing lesser movies to its glorious magnitude!!! (lol)

I have to disagree, sorry. :annoyed2: I think it was good. The graphics and costumes (the beavers were pathetic! lolz! and Aslan was a bit sad too!) were a bit old, but the story was WAY more to the book. I thought they didn't try to do anything to it, like that part where they're being chased? SO didn't happen. And that thing with Morgrim and the waterfall? The fox, the prison scene with Edmund and Mr. Tumnus, the beginning part (the bombing). I have read the book eight times, so believe me, I should know lol! And there was some modernization in the new one. I liked how the old one (no matter how sketchy the graphics were) was very true to CS Lewis's portrayal of the story that HE wrote. And for that I have to commend the BBC. I think the best job they could with the limited resources they had at the time.

Well, I loved how well they made the world itself. I really thought I was somewhere else. I love that best of all in any movie like this.

I thought it was great! I've seen the BBC versions too (except it's been awhile since I've seen TLTWATW, so I don't remember it very well). Honestly, I wasn't too impressed by them. Yes, they did stay close to the books, but the special effects were kinda lame by modern standards and I didn't like some (some, mind you. lol) of the acting.
Reasons I like the new version-
I love the characters. They're all well acted and I think portray the book characters very well.
The land of Narnia is brought to life beautifully. There's such a wide variety of landscapes and buildings.
The special effects are great. Not flawless, no, but for the most part I can't tell if an animal is real of CG.
I love the music too! It goes perfectly with the movie.

Absolutely agree here. I grew up on the old BBC series and have been watching and loving them for the past 17 years of my life - that is Narnia to me. As much as I loved this new film it certainly wasn't "all that" and not at all how I thought it would be. I agree on the modernization part! And I didn't like the White Witch at all. NOTHING beats the White Witch from the BBC series!

I made this little video here as a tribute (or homage if you will) to the BBC series:

I thought it was an excellent treatment of the book. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Prince Caspian

What does LotR being so perfect have to do with Narnia?

Narnia is not meant to be compared to LotR! Please, do not do that! It's no wonder you're disappointed.
Lewis and Tolkien were close friends, but had different tastes and opinions in just about everything! (Heh, I did my research paper on Lewis :)) These two pieces of literature weren't meant to be like each other. Narnia is just...it's own world! It's the same with Middle Earth. Narnia is a children's story, LotR is not. When watching Narnia, you can not expect something similar with lots of fighting and battles!

I agree, it definitely was modernized, and I didn't like that one bit. The modern lesson of the importance of family that's in every children's movie was inserted into LWW.

The BBC version, ah yes. Now, this is all just my opinion, please don't be offended. I have always found it just pathetic. The acting/voices, costumes, special effects, directing...pretty much every aspect of it was terrible. Yeah, it certainly was close to the book, and I applaud them for that. But thank the lord that a new version was made!

Of course the newer version is going to be further from the book. It's just to be expected, I think (and also something I should've kept in mind when first viewing it). I was irritated that almost all of the Christian feeling (I guess you could say) was squelched out. But hey, in our modern world I shouldn't have expected any more.

As I see more and more movies based on books, I've learned that the movies aren't made to be exact replicas of what they were based off of. Yeah, it would be awesome if it were, but some book story lines are impossible when smashed into movie culture. What I'm attempting to teach myself to do is watch the movie as it's own story. Maybe I won't end up so disappointed.
