When I was 12 and my mom was studying at the university, I would read her Shakespeare...I like Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, and Macbeth. My least favorite is The Taming of the Shrew...but don't worry, I won't go on a feminist rant on that here.

Shakespeare is just so...lyrical. He is actually rather economical with his words, because a lot of the things he wrote have double meanings. And a lot of the themes of his plays are still relevant...it's really hard to write something like that.
Where I live, we have something called Shakespeare in the Park...a theater troupe puts on a couple of the bard's plays at the university...I have yet to see it, but I'm definitely going to go next time.

Shakespeare is a pretty cool guy. I may be beat up by the true die-die hard Shakespeare fans, but has anyone heard of Shakespeare Abridged? Its an amazingly funny play condensing all of Shakespeare into about two hours.

Othello Rap (Presented by "racially challenged" guys. I'd give you the wholerap, but its sorta Pg-13 rated.)

Here's the story of a brother by the name of Othello.

Because he didn't like Othello, the Moor of Venice.

We studied Taming of the Shrew this year and I ADORED it. It;s really funny. We all watched the movie in the class and everyone was laughing sooo hard. I enjoy the style of shakespeare, actually. It's nice

I've heard of the abridged version, but I haven't seen it. I saw a Midsummer Nights Dream at Chavenage this summer though. It was fantastic! My favourite was Puck. He was just the cheeky chap shakespeare wrote.
Has anyone heard of / got the book "Shakespeare in a Nutshell" by Gerald Morris (I think)?? It has all Shakespeare plays summed up in rhymes. Great read!

I own three antique, hardcover, copies of his complete works, and paperback editions of all of his plays. My favorites are; A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, and Macbeth.

I go through phases of Shakespeare. My older brother found a complete collection of his book- copyright 1880 for 3 dollars at a university book sale. He gave them to me on day.
My favorites of right now are The Tempest and Much Ado.

What do you think of the film adaptions of Shakespeare? I'm not too sure, since obviously not the complete dialogues are used. But I saw Much Ado, Macbeth and another one i can't remember.

I got this huge quizbook on Shakespeare this summer. It's called "That is the question" and has 1000s of questions on ever subject concerning Shakespear. Films, plays, adaptions, misc, etc. It's cool!

I think it's pretty difficult to make a movie from Shakespeare's plays... You'd better try to see them in on stage. But the BBC versions are good! Except their version of Macbeth! the actors are really bad and they turned the play into something funny :blink:
Those versions are a bit old but the original text was respected so....

I'm currently reading Macbeth in my AP Lit class, and I love it (just not all the writing I have to do about it). I think its my favorite shakespeare I've read thus far. Shakespeare just captures and speaks truth in a way I can't describe.

shakespeare's wonderful to read, but you have to see him really. so far i've seen macbeth, the tempest, romeo and juliet, and a musical version of merry wives of windsor, and the productions were all absolutely fantastic.

for A level drama, my group had to adapt a midsummer night's dream. we just used the storylines involving the mechanicals and went for all out comedy - oberon was played slightly like jack sparrow, flute was extremely camp, and there were random visual jokes involving beards and an orlando bloom calendar. it was kind of wizard of oz meets monty python - sheer genius, if you ask me!

i wish we could speak shakespearean verse all the time - for me, it just rolls off the tongue and it sounds so beautiful.

has anybody ever watched the judi dench/ian mckellen version of macbeth? i started watching it on dvd, but i had to turn it off after half an hour because i found it so painfully bad. it's meant to be the best version ever, but it was just so dull. besides, i don't really rate dench or mckellen - by all accounts, mckellen plays everything the same, and i saw dench a couple of nights ago in merry wives and she never really lit the stage up.
