I want to join please . I'm in a drama class and we are in the middle of a production. We're doing songs from several Broadway musicals like Grease, Sweet Charity, Annie, etc. It's so much fun. We did a production last year and I was on a group that did songs from Chicago, people who knew me and saw the preformance we're a little shocked because I tend to be the quiet shy person in class, it was awesome.
I've attened a few plays but Phantom of the Opera was the biggest and the best. I saw it in London this Summer and it was amazingly done, quite differnt from the movie I might add. The singing was beautiful, although I prefer Gerard Butler's voice in the movie to the man in the play. The phantom's voice seemed a little to high for my taste but I guess it's because I was so used to GB's voice.

OMG, I JUST GOT BACK FROM SEEING "RENT" @ A NEARBY THEATER!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me and a couple of my friends bought student "rush tickets", where we waited at the theater 5 1/2 hours before the show, and we got front-row seats and because we waited, we only had to pay $23!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The play is so different from the movie, but it was still sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredible!!!!!!!!!!! The touring cast isn't as good as the original cast, but that's almost always the case (it's pretty rare that a touring cast, or any other cast for that matter, is better than the original) but they were still good. There were some who were better actors than singers, and some who were better singers than actors, but it balanced out pretty well.

Bananna Republic you are so lucky! You saw Phantom of the Opera and IN LONDON! Do you know who played the phantom? And I agree GB is better. I think he does better then Micheal Crawford because his voice is to nazely-ish.

Oh gosh I can't remember who played the phantom in the play version. I have the program somewhere that has all of the actors listed. If I find it I'll be sure to tell you.

Oooh. Theatre.
Can I join?
I'm not an actor, but I am one of those you see dressed in all black scurrying around backstage. Techie!!!! Yup, that's me. Ha ha ha. I've been involved in theatre for god knows how long. The town where I live has a community theatre, MCT (Missoula Children's Theatre). And they're quite well known, whether nationally or even internationally. Part of what they do (and what makes them so well known) is that they travel. They go to schools (mainly elementary and middle schools) and in one week, they put on a show. From casting at the school, to rehearsals, to the final performance. I think the first time I was in one of their plays at my school was when I was in second grade. Can't really remember. They put on the Pied Piper, and I played some little town brat with like 2 lines. It was AWESOME!
From that point, I tried to be involved with MCT as much as I could. When they came to the school's, they not only casted for actors, but for ADs (assistant directors) as well. I always wanted that position, but I never got it until 8th grade. (In which I had to decided between Varsity soccer or theatre...obviously, I chose theatre and had to play soccer with the losers ) That got me hooked on technical theatre. I had so much fun hanging around "backstage" and what not. Later that same year, they put on another play, but at their headquarters - the theatre itself. I think the play was The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. I don't remember much, except that the White Witch was ridiculously cool...but what I really remember is being in awe of being in an actual theatre ... backstage. It was like a drug. I couldn't get enough of everything around me. I hated going on stage during the performance, but I loved being backstage.
Once I got into high school, my fascination with theatre didn't stop. But not until my sophmore year did I eventually volunteer at that theatre, to do tech theatre. I also found that our school offered technical theatre, but I had to go through a drama class first. (Which was bogus lies from my counselor, but who cares) I actually enjoyed Drama, it was quite fun and helped me be more self confident and a little less shy. But my drama teacher knew I wanted to work backstage, and thus I entered the world of techies. From that point on, I worked both at the school and at MCT. By the end of my senior year, I was well known at MCT for being a pretty good techie, especially as a spot op. At school, I was initiated as a thespian, and was the sound officer at our school. We were invited last summer to attend the International Thespian Festival at the University of Nebraska. Now, that was wicked.
And I got an internship at the only professional summer theatre in Montana last summer as well, working on My Fair Lady.
God, I've worked on a ridiculous amount of shows....Les Mis, Damn Yankees....hmmm....lots.
Now that I'm in college, I still try and keep with theatre. (I'm hoping to double major, or at least minor in Technial Theatre) I'm taking a couple classes, and still volunteer at MCT.
Hmmm....that was quite a bit wasn't it. Sounds like a bloody cover letter or resume. Ha ha ha.

I love theatre. I played in West Side Story. I took a small role but it was really fascinating to be in that amazing atmosphere. I am planning on writing scripts for plays in the future.

Well, I was supposed to, anyway... but my stupid acting teacher decided for us to see a brand-new Broadway play called "The Drowsy Chaperone" instead. I wa soooooo mad at her for changing her mind! But I saw it anyway. Twas ok, kinda funny, but I would have MUCH rather seen Wicked, cuz I wanna see that soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... bad!!!!!!!!!!!! But while we were walking around NYC (by ourselves, in my little group) we went to this little place called The Drama Book Shop. I officially LOVE that place! It has sooooooooooooooo many books on acting, filmmaking, playwriting, and it has a whole bunch of books and scripts of plays, movies, etc. So my friend and I, since we couldn't see Wicked, bought the novel. I haven't started to read it yet, but I'm gonna start it soon. They also had a whole bunch of librettos (books w/ the sheet music for songs of a play/movie) and they had a Wicked one! I almost got it, but it was too expensive, it cost even more expensive than the novel itself! But I figured it would make more sense for me to get it after I see it, which hopefully will be very soon...

Wow, this club REALLY need ressurecting!!! Here, I'll ressurect it!!! This past weekend my summer theatre camp performed Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods Jr." (a one-act version of the Broadway play)!!!! We only had 3 weeks, so we couldn't do the full 2-act version, so we had to do the one-act. I played a narrator, Sleeping Beauty. Even though there really isn't any Sleeping Beauty narrator in the original one; there's only one narrator, and tis a guy dressed in a suit. So not cool. But the directors split the narrator part into 3 and made each of us fairytale characters: Sleeping Beauty (me!), and Snow White and Glinda. We ended up changing SO much from the original Jr. version. But I absolutely loved ours. My sister's friend's family came one night, and they've seen ITW like 4 times (on Broadway and in other productions) but they liked ours better than the other 4 times they saw it! So that made me happy! I'm so sad that it's over now. I currently have post-production depression (when u get really sad, tired, and irritable after a production ends.) But it was soooooooooooo... much fun! Has anyone else performed in (or helped out w/) a play since the last post in the beginning of July?
