^Exactly!
I don't know why people feel the need to pick on him. It's just the way he looks, ya know?

Yeah, and just the fact that he always looks clean ( what every Elf does, but they don't comment on Elrond or Arwen) should be the reason why they always say those things!

I absolutely agree with ya Haldir and Th'wayla
I also sometimes have the feeling that some people seem to be jealous (dunno why, but it just seems to me that way)

ForeverFrodo wrote: I just hate them. There seem to be so much of that stuff, Lord of the Weed is just one of them. I would never watch them, it makes me so angry to see that there are always people who try to mess around really great movies! It clearly shows that they haven't understood it.
Hey, I don't think I've commented on this.
In a way, I totally agree! Sometimes I get mad that people mess with this brilliant masterpiece, as if they're trying to make a replica, or like they're making fun of it.
But if we realize that parodies are made by real LotR fans [mostly, hopefully] who appreciate Tolkien like we do, that changes things. Now, I'm not saying that EVERY parody is by someone like this, but think about what that would mean.
If fans like us wrote these parodies, then they really can't be making fun of LotR.
Okay, none of that really made sense, did it?
Bottom line in my opinion:
I think that maybe they're just a way of showing appreciation...
whoa, that came out wrong.
Maybe it's just innocent fun and jokes, that don't mean to have a say in what LotR should be like, or what it is like.
I love reading parodies, I think they're really funny. But I think we just have to seperate the Aragorns, rings, whatever, and realize that they are two different characters.

I agree with Gwen... you can usually tell if a parody is written in a way that respectful to the original content.
That's the main difference between a fan parody and a non-fan parody. A non-fan's parody pokes fun. At the soul, the language, the beauty, the things they just don't understand, to amuse themselves and other pathetic souls.
A fan's parody plays around with events, characters, whatever, to create a humorus tale, to amuse themselves and their fellow fans.
So, that's how you tell the difference between a good parody and a bad one. Is it poking fun at the content? Or is it playing around with it?

It's a take-off, a spoof, making fun of something. Like a parody of a song is when you take the melody and change the words. Did that explain it a bit?
I like parodies - to an extent. I loved the condensed version of the two towers and the return of the king that are on the main site here. I laughed so much! I've also read other LotR humour that I have really enjoyed. I've even tried to write some! I never enjoyed the poems of tom bombadil so much until a friend and I tried to rewrite them so he was a fashion designer. It was very silly, but we enjoyed ourselves.
I rolled about on the floor when my friend said (of Gandalf talking to Saruman about his robe's colour change): “I liked white better,” I said. “White,” he sneered. “It serves as a beginning. The white cloth may be dyed. The white page can be overwritten; and the white light broken." “Really?” I asked. “No,” he sighed. “I just thought white made me look fat.”
Parodies are just some people's way of showing their appreciation, their obsession, their love. I agree that sometimes relationships can be tedious or not amusing, and they can become a bit strange and almost perverted. *coughboredoftheringscough* Maybe things I found amusing two years ago I would look back on now and say "that's not funny, it's just stupid".
It really all does depend on who is writing the parody, and your sense of humour. Parodies in general tend to be something I personally enjoy, and you can get some very clever parodies of LotR out there. That's not to say that to be a ringer you must find them funny, or feel a need to race off to be defender of the professor. They're something that everyone responds to differently, and can be so very different in themselves, that I would hesitate to put them all in one box and give them all one label...
Because, as a comedian/folk singer who did an act on Lord of the Rings said "the books were brilliant - I've read it every year since I was thirteen and I'll read it again, the thing is the movies were brilliant... and if I mock, it is only with love."

ohhhh now i know what a parody is! i've read a part of bored of the rings (in finnish though) and the part where tom bombadil came was EW EW EW sick!!!!! he offered drugs to the hobbits, i think it was an insult towars Tolkien, he meant Bombadil to be a guardian of nature (or something like that) and that spoils and mocks the idea completely!!!!! i think the author of bored of the rings should be sued!!!!!!!!!! (you know taken to court i'm not sure how it's spelled...)
