Thanks Eariel, I've never actually gone to Tibet, so I had no idea if it was accurate or not....I got my inspiration from "7 years in Tibet"
OOo! I like both of your poems!
My favorite line from your poem Eariel is;
"Bright is air and blossoming bough
Where the leaves are wrought of singing gold."
I can visual the golden leaves and the clean fresh air....at least that's what I drew from it.
ForeverFrodo: I liked yours too! Don't worry about your grammar it was fine! It's a very good "Ode to Tolkien" Poem! Good Job!

Eariel: I've written a poem about the Grey Havens, too. Tell me if you like it, will you??
The Grey Havens (Into the West)
Here I am
At the end of this life
Everything I’ve known
I am about to take with me
Into the West
So far beyond
I see only banks of mist
Everyone I love
Is unable to follow me
Into the West
Time goes by
I see again what has been done
Everything I did
Shall be forgotten and go with me
Into the West
I must leave
There is nothing left for me
My time has come
To go, not looking back behind me,
Into the West
Three Elven Rings
All must take the journey over sea
Vilya, Nenya and Narya
All depart, for their bearers are beside me
Into the West
All of us
Who journey back to whence we came
Knew all to know of the Fate of the Ring
But none remain to tell, for all are coming with me
Into the West
The ship departs
The last of its kind to leave for Western Shores
Everything after me
Will have to watch the leaving ship, which takes me
Into the West

Arawn: This is very very beautiful. It pictures so well the atmosphere of the Grey Havens.
Sidawethiel: Thank you!

Thank you, Sidawethiel, speaking of compliments! I've been writing for a while, but that was almost my first.
Arawn, your poem was good. I think you have skill. I liked the "banks of mist" part--it's like what I would say in my own poetry.
I'll post a Mount Doom one when I have time.
Edit: All right, now I do. No-one has posted, so I'll just edit it in.
This one is sort of my own version of Into the West. It's spoken by Sam to Frodo, when the latter is lying in his arms on the Mountain. Actually, it's a companion to a song that takes place in Eressea, but I won't post that one right now, as it would be long. Later, though.
Orodruin Lullaby
Verse 1
Now go to sleep, me dear, my only--
Long your light is failing worn:
Though all the World is dark and lonely,
White shores glisten in the Morn.
And one day in joy you will wing to the West,
Full happy and free as the bright skies above:
When night here is darkest, the Morning is blest--
And one day I'll follow the Master I love.
Verse 2
Beloved star, my Anar, listen--
Voices call you from the West:
And in your eyes, the teardrops glisten--
Hush now, dear one; lay at rest.
"My Anar," I say, for you shine like the Sun--
The Dark cannot conquer the light that I love!--
And though it must pass when the Morning is done,
The Sunrise is timeless in lands far above!
Verse 3
Be lulled by peace, and blissful dreaming--
Still I'll love you though we part:
Neath Sun or Moon, or starlight gleaming,
I will hold you in my heart.
Come, let us be rid of the darkness you bear--
And light in the West-lands no dark may destroy:
I long there to see you white-shining so fair--
At last at our meeting, that light will be joy!

A simply won-der-ful lullaby, Eariel. Maybe someone ought to write a tune to it?!

Thank you! It has a tune, but it's hard to tell people on line. Most of my "poems" are like that. (in that they're really songs)

Yeah, I know what you mean! I write lyrics, too, but somehow the music to it doesn't go to the guitar chords ... if you see what I mean?!

I'm not completely sure, as i play piano and not guitar...but i think I do. Sometimes I have trouble figuring out how to play a song on the keys, too.
Btw, remember how i said that the Orodruin Lullaby has a "sister song"? It takes place on the Lonely Isle, after Sam has come west--many years after lotr. The singer and listener are reversed from the other one. (Don't be daunted, but it is kind of long.)
Eressea Lullaby
'Tis shadowless in Elvenesse--
Your heart so wounded joy shall bless:
My friend, now sleep in peace so deep--
Your sorrow Eru shall redress:
Now cease to cry beneath the sky,
And hear the Ocean's lullaby:
In utter rest, lost in the West,
Be lulled by dreams till Morn is nigh.
Beyond the World, where Time is furled,
At Morn-break far the Curse is hurled:
While starlight gleams and Isle dreams,
In foam the misty waves are pearled:
For lost in Light, no fear hath night--
The Lady's stars shine silver-white:
The One who hears will dry your tears,
Till in you joy rekindles bright.
On dark Mount Doom, in deepest gloom,
My soul the Ring would fain consume:
I'd lost all hope, yet on that slope
You carried me to Burden's tomb:
What love you gave, our Quest to save--
My dearest friend, my Sam the Brave!
That love so deep for one I keep
Who's with me past the foaming wave.
Your spring was fair--such joy to bear--
As Kemen flowered in your care:
The years to pass with lissome lass--
With little ones your home to share:
Then Winter fell with deep farewell,
And tears no joy on Earth could quell:
But past the Sea, the wind blows free,
And Light and Bliss eternal dwell.
At Havens Grey, I sailed away--
My last goodbye I had to say--
My last farewell, for now we dwell
Where Parting cannot hold us sway:
For now you're home, through Oceanfoam,
In Arda never more to roam:
Be comforted--lay down your head--
Cast off all fear neath Varda's dome.
In bliss of old, neath Varda's fold,
Now sleep till Menel turns to gold:
In Elvenbay with you I'll stay,
And friendship's joy no words can hold:
A night may weep, but Morn shall reap
The joy All-Father gives to keep:
Now close your eyes till Morn arise,
In care of one who loves you deep--
And sleep.

hey all! i've written a few poems lately, here they are,
(the following is really a song, but i can't sing it to you, so its a poem!)
I HAD
I had a price I could not pay, I can not pay it to this day, I wonder what would happen to me, if he was to just up and leave.
I had a debt I could not pay, I can not pay it to this day, he said, "I will set you free," "all you have to do is beleave in me."
I had a price I could not pay, I can not pay it to this day, I wonder what would happen to me, If I didn't beleave
NO OTHER PLACE
what would happen to me, if my life was cut short, would i go to heaven above, or hell down below, there is no other place to go, I know there is a God, who loves me so, but I fear that will not be enough, if they know half the things, they will never let me in, would i go to heaven above, or hell down below, there is no other place to go.
and i can't find my other one, i blame all misspellings to my sleepyness.

*cough* my new poem *coughs again*
GONE IS SHE
joy. where has it gone? will it be gone for long? for the joy in my life is gone. gone is she, who made my life worth liveing. in one moment. in a singal clash. now all i wish to do is wallow in ash. all because of that crash. she has left me, on this earth alone. but now she is gone. gone is she, my little one. in one moment, all my pain had begun. gone was the one, i dearly loved. gone was my child, in just one crash. gone is the little girl, who grew under my heart. gone is my baby, who i had cared for in the midnight. gone is she, the light of my life. the pain stabs at me like a knife but now she is gone, why had it been her? why not me? there would have been less pain for her. gone is my child, my little dark-haired girl. who was flesh of my flesh, and bone of my bone. she has left me pain prone. the time that my pain will ease is unknown. my child is gone, but i shall see her again. my baby, my child, i'll hold you in heaven.

I like that. It made me cry. A lot of my poems have a sort of similar theme--that of joy that must wait till we die to exist. (Do i make sense?) Btw, is that poem about you, or someone else?
Here's one of mine. (It's from my point of view at the Grey Havens, and while it's situation is not near as sad as losing a child would be, I do miss Frodo, book character or no, and it is hard sometimes.) Btw, thank you, Forever!
The Leavetaking
O where are you going
At eve in the gloaming
As evenwind's blowing,
The West fair and free?
The clear waves are foaming,
The westward tide flowing;
Where go you a-roaming,
Your face to the Sea?
The Sun west is winging,
Light goldenly falling;
The Lone Star is singing,
Far silver on white;
From light heart-enthralling
What fate is eve bringing?
What fair and far calling
So draws you tonight?
The white Moon is gleaming
So fair in the twilight,
The water is streaming
A-swirl in the tide--
Neath silver of sky-light
A grey ship rocks dreaming:
To what fair and high light
At eve does she ride?
A burden's weight learning
Through wilderness faring,
A Fire hot burning
Alone to embark;
A cruel Quest uncaring--
"There is no returning--"
A heavy cross bearing
To Death in the Dark.
In Shadowlands yonder
Your star gave its shining,
In Darkness to wander
That Dawn wake the world;
With Sorrow entwining,
Still wounded you ponder;
For light you are pining--
The West is unfurled.
The final Leavetaking--
The Third Age is ending.
With joy or grief breaking,
To you my heart's drawn.
And west your path's wending,
The grey world forsaking;
To white shores ascending
Where swift comes the Dawn.
And now you're arising
To fly to heart's resting;
The thing of our prizing,
Your sweet smile glows--
The Sun sets a-westing
So fair in uprising--
On Earth no more questing,
Westsetting he goes.
When Endor is paling
To you comes the Choosing,
Where light is unfailing
From Arda to part--
With sorrow I'm musing
As west Last Ship's sailing;
That sight I am losing
And with it, my heart.
The sunset you follow--
The Star shine above you!
You pass from all sorrow
And gone are your fears.
My heart will think of you
Though grey seems the morrow;
One Earth-bound shall love you
Through swift running years.

As I said before in the E/F Club, Eariel: beautiful!!
Findëmaxa Pánedhiel: Very sad, but a good poem.
A little one that I wrote for my English class. I was kinda pleased how it turned out. The topic was metaphors :
memories are little butterflies sitting on flowers of happiness memories are clouds blown away by the wind memories are golden leaves falling into the river of life memories are stars in the night of our fears memories are jewels glittering with the light of joy memories are friends that will stay with you always
The topic is not LotR, but it was inspired by it

it's not about me, i'm to young to have a child, and i know i'm doomed to have boys. there was a 9 year old little girl in my city who died in a car crash, it's written from the point of veiw of her mother, tho, i'm sure thay my poem doesn't come near how sad it would be to lose a child. and i'm sorry i made to cry.

That's all right. It showed that it was a good poem, that it made me cry. I write a lot from other people's points of view, too, though so far mostly it's been characters in stories.
Forever: Thank you! I really like your poem. I'm practically in love with metaphors!
Here's yet another poem of mine. (I hope you don't mind--I write a lot, and it's nice to have someone to share them with.) It takes place in my own world, which is sort of like Tolkien's in that there's a "blessed land" in the West, though I'm trying to make it unique. This song is from two people's points of view--both are Anwi (my race of...well, they're a lot like winged Elves), and they're dear friends. However, Noyelillos eventually has to leave Earth and go to Anwiland in the West (for reasons similar to Frodo's), and say farewell to his friend Ilselin, because this world still holds joy for her, and...I know this sounds a lot like LotR, but please believe me when I say I don't mean to copy. My world was partly inspired by Tolkien's--like your poem, Forever--but I try to make it original. Anyway, this is when they're saying goodbye at the harbour. (Noyelillos' part is on the left, and Ilselin's is on the right--sorry i didn't have time to make it clearer. )
Noyelillos Ilselin
Chorus
Say farewell, (Night shall grieve me now--)
Dearest one: (For you leave me now:)
Hear the bell (Bear my heart with you,)
Past the Sun: (As I part with you:)
By my side, (Bear this lass away!--)
You I'd keep-- (Night will pass away:)
Hear I'll bide, (Light shall dawn again--)
As we weep. (Stars go wan again.)
Verse 1
Far too swift (Heart, still beat--)
Run the years, (Breath, draw on:)
As we're rift, (Night I greet)
And your tears (Without Dawn:)
Trembling fall, (Take my hand--)
Like the spray-- (Cross the foam:)
Yet I'll call, (Anwi-land)
"Fly away!" (Calls you home!)
Chorus
Verse 2
In the West, (Peace at eve--)
Dusk is bright-- (Heavens gleam:)
All is blest (Take my leave--)
In the night: (For I dream:)
Yet my Star (Sunbeams spill--)
Still enchants: (Stay a-while:)
Hearts roam far-- (Let me still)
Shall we dance? (Watch you smile!)
Chorus
Verse 3
Watch the tide (Twilight falls--)
Turn to Sea-- (Earth is grey:)
Westward ride (Someone calls,)
Home to me! ("Fly away!")
In this land, (Home I'll wing)
None shall part: (Unto thee!--)
Take my hand, (Here I'll sing)
And my heart! (Blissfully!)
Edit: Hope that helped.
