Luthien leaned forward, noticing his saddened heart. "Then what led you on this mission, Haldir? Iluvatar knows this forsaken place is leagues from your home."

Yet now that I am here, I long for the security of home." Pulling her long cloak about her, Luth moved closer to the fire as the wind howled menacingly.

Haldir smiled. "It is no sin to search for some excitement," he said taking off his cloak and wrapping it around Luthien's shaking body.

He retreated to his tree and sat quietly finishing the rest of his Lembas.

The cool night wind blew his long hair around his face and Haldir fell into a contented sleep.

Luthien watched the blonde Elf fall asleep, then tended the fire, its glow flickering faintly against the tents and surrounding brush. Alone with only her thoughts, Luth kept watch, silently waiting for Elegost to return.

Meleth awoke to see Luthien keeping watch alone. She rose silently and said softly, "Luth? You should have woken one of us," she said reproachfully. "We all need sleep if we are to make any headway." She came and sat down beside Luthien.

Haldir stirred and opened an eye. "Melda..." he muttered groggily.

"That's Meleth, Haldir. Go back to sleep, you'll need the rest, if I'm not mistaken." She grinned a little and turned back to the fire. "If you want to rest, Luth, I can watch for a while."

Haldir nodded and rolled over, falling asleep once more.

Luthien smiled gratefully at Meleth and rubbed her eyes sleepily. "Thanks, I think I will lay down for a while. Wake me if anything happens." Getting up stiffly, she lay Haldir's cloak over his sleeping form and went to lie down on her bed roll.

Meleth poked the fire and wrapped her cloak around herself, staring into the night. "Sleep well, Luth." She kept watch uneasily, wondering where Elegost was and shivering slightly in the continuous cold wind that swept over Angmar.
