"But do you think we will ever get back?" Idril asked the inevitable question. "I mean, this is all amazing, impressive, and almost un-dreamed of, yet no one would ever know, or would they? Are we written in the books somehow?" She chuckled slightly, shivering as she hugged her cloak closer to her. "Perhaps we should stop for a while, and try to start a fire before we catch hypothermia..."

(Mods, one question.... can we get a little action? *grins* Like wolves or something?)

Idril, your comment made me use your name twice in here. Hope you don't mind. ;)

As the evening deepened into dusk, the wind began to howl fiercely. It grew bitterly cold. The high winds and heavy, driving sleet made it impossible for the group to light a fire. Everyone huddled closely together. They were cold. Exhausted.

Idril began to think she was hearing the sound of woves howling. Most thought the idea of goblins in the mountains must be giving her ideas, and causing her to confuse the sound of the wind with the cry of Wargs. Trudging on, the group looked desperately for a cave, any cave, in which to take shelter. Even the goblin cave where Bilbo and the dwarves were captured seemed inviting. But nothing could be found.

Suddenly the hows grew louder, sharper. A faint druming noise seemed to come from the mountain. First on one side and then another, small rocks were being disturbed and rolling down. Unsure what they were facing, wolves (as some thought) or the wind (as others assumed) the group began to hurry on up the trail as best and fast as they could. Idril glanced to the edge of the light cast by the flashlight the leader was carrying. Was that a shadow...?

The group stopped short. It was unmistakable now: there WAS a large shape looming in front of them. Growling.

by the way folks, remember that trolls and giants live in these mountains too. It doesn't have to be limited to wargs and goblins.

(*grins* Awesome.... I like the idea of Wargs.... but perhaps a couple hungry trolls wouldn't hurt...)

Idril trembled slightly, nearly taking a step back, but she came in contact with her horse, who fidgeted then whinnied shrilly at the sound, nostrils flared in arabian delicateness.

"Hold the light steady..." she whispered, swallowing hard as she brought a bow off the saddle and nocked an arrow to the string. With a twang of the bow string, she had released the arrow, watching as it vanished against the shadowy figure.

The figure gave a yelp, then a snarl, and then moved forward.

"Whoops... I think I made it angrier... er, should we run?" Idril hesitated, waiting to see the reaction of the others, though her hand went to her large buck knife sheathed at her side.

Idril nodded quickly, and ran for a tree, struggling for grip as she reached for a branch higher up. Before she knew it, something large had a hold of her leg, obviously rather tall for a warg. She yelped but used her free hand to unsheath her buck knife, stabbing at whatever had grabbed her. It growled and moved back, yet before she could grab for the branch, both her ankles were grasped and she was pulled down, her forehead grazing a rock.

Kicking and stabbing, she broke free and ran for a dark area of rocks. Glancing back her eyes widened suddenly. "Troll! Blasted, it's a troll!!" Idril grabbed her bow from the ground, tremblingly placing another arrow on the string, absently wiping blood that slipped into her vision.

The troll seemed to have forgotten about her but was now headed to the tree in which Anduril had gone in. "Anduril, look out!" She released an arrow, but it had little effect on the thick skin.

Anduril saw the troll and Adrenaline and training kicked in. She may be useless with a sword but she couldn't be beaten with a dagger. (well i can't, know one i knows carry a dagger with them and throw itat trees on a regulare basis) She quickly drew her daggers and threw them with astonishing acuracy into the Trolls eyes. It wasn't dead, but it couldn't see her.

[Er...okay...I'm a little behind lol...]

Melda gulped and retreated very quietly, panic rising within her. She hoped to avoid the troll altogether but she felt as if she should help Idril and Anduril. Leading Sanya back so that nothing would happen to her, Melda drew her small knife and gulped, ready to intervene.

The Troll crashed blindly around seeking who ever had done it. Anduril leapt down from her tree and saw with relif Dewdain hideing in the distance, if it did come to the worst they could run. She pulled some elven rope from her pack and slowly circled around the Trolls thrashing legs

Idril grinned suddenly at Anduril's idea, and she herself pulled out a coil of the fine elven rope, fastening one end an arrow. She aimed and released the arrow, watching as it sunk into the sensitive area beneath the troll's arm. Having done that, she took the rope and also began to circle the creature, though its arms being entangled instead of its legs.

With Anduril's efforts and Idril's partially as well, the troll lost balance and crashed to the ground with a thud, unable to move properly. "Kill it!" She yelled out, taking her bow and nocking another arrow, getting as close as she could manage to the thrashing troll and releasing her arrow into its throat. The skin was thick, even there, and the troll stubborn held to life.

Melda took a few steps forward, her hand shaking a little. She stabbed valiantly at the huge beast, but her blade glanced off its skin and she took a step back, uncertain.

"What are you doing? Aim for the underbelly!" said numenorian as he jabbed his sword into the beast.

Idril stepped foward as its mouth opened in a cry from the attacks, and she released an arrow directly into the gaping cavern, grinning slightly as it lodged deeply, slicing the nervous system and creating rather a bloody mess. Finally, after being stabbed a few dozen times, and having an object hurled into its throat, the troll gave a last breath.

"Woah.... That was... fun." Idril chuckled slightly, but soon the adrenaline started to drain. She plopped down on the ground with a grimace, feeling worn and chilled as the freezing rain and sleet continued to pour down over them.

Carefully she wiped the blood from her forehead with a cleaner part of her sleeve, slumping back against a tree. "We need to get out of this rain.... it won't do us any good to be soaked and frozen after wearing ourselves out like that..." She stated the obvious, glancing around in hopes of seeing some cave nearby.

Melda just stared at the dead troll and swallowed, feeling a little lightheaded. She had never, in her wildest dreams, imagined meeting one.
