Aww cool, thanks Sid and Larien, glad you like the banner. Feel free to use it anyone who wants to.
I think we may talk of whatever we want like jobs, family, life stuff, LotR too of course, etc. :) I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm glad to know there are other adults out there who love Tolkien's work, too. Not that the young fans don't have a place:) ...like my many students obsessed with it and impersonating Gollum... ...but it's great talking to so many intelligent people on AU about things as well.

So this post is meant to bring this club up from the THIRD PAGE! How are we supposed to get more members if the club isn't seen right up there with the Gentlemen/women's clubs?! :P

I might as well introduce a new topic....um....hmmm what's a nice adult topic? Not makeup, not boys...politics are taboo on this forum, same with religion...

Hm. Maybe we can start out by talking about what it was like when we finally did turn 18, or whatever the adult age is in your country. What do you like about being an adult? What don't you like? What was the first "adult" thing you did? And finally...are there any "kid" things you still do?

As for me, I've only been technically an "adult" for a little over a year, and I am back at home for the summer since school is out. I'm the oldest child in my family, so the responsibility that comes with being an adult wasn't a big shock. All the things that you're allowed to do in the U.S. when you turn 18...rent *beep*, gamble, buy cigarettes, vote...well, the only thing I did was vote. I don't do any of the other stuff. Overall, turning 18 wasn't as big of a deal as everyone told me it would be.
I'll answer the "kid stuff" question later :P This is already kind of a long post!

Oh I LOVE the banner and avvie!!! Yay!!!!!!!! :bounce:

*cough*

Hmmm...not exactly acting like an adult here. Ha ha ha. Well, ... erm ... I guess the only "adult" thing I've done since I "officially" became and "adult" (hmmm...me likes quotation marks) was get registered to vote and vote.

I don't really know what to talk about. I still act like a kid...and I think I always will. I'm not ever going to "grow up." *randomly thinks of Peter Pan* At least, I hope not.

Man....I haven't even been an "official" "adult" for even a year yet. Hmmm......must think of something other than politics and religion to talk about. Ha ha ha. But I guess, becoming more mature, it's easier to talk about those things. I guess that's one of the good things about "maturing" (I'm not going to call it "growing up" because I won't ever grow up...) is being able to have an intelligent discussion with someone about those kind of things and usually not get into a ridiculous name calling argument. Well...most of the time. ;) :P Ha ha ha

Of course, younger people can, on occasion, carry on a decent conversation about certain topics. However, as you get older, (theoretically) you get more knowledgeable, and therefore your opinions are more informed. When I was younger, I didn't really know what I felt about religion, because I only knew what adults told me...but now I know.

I like that when you're an adult, or at least technically considered one, you are privy to loads more information, because other adults assumed that you've matured enough to handle it. But like I said before, I was already pretty mature, from being the oldest in my family.

As for kid stuff...well, I pretty much agree with Montana...in some respects, I will never grow up. I still like eating popsicles on the porch, dancing around madly, playing with scarves, reading nonstop...all the stuff I did when I was little :D

-laughs- I love the way you two mentioned not growing up. I do think we'll always have things we hold onto that some people may consider "kid things" or a wee bit childish. I know I will, I still will romp and play with the dogs outside, still love reading books on end, like LotR of course :p... I think the difference with being an official "adult" was that I noticed more responsibilities and less time for the fun stuff, as it were. For me it seemed like with the overload of college courses, homework, my job, family responsibilities, and volunteer work....I didn't have as much time with friends or for entertainment. However, as time went on I adjusted, found time between school terms or holidays to relax and enjoy. Also, like the two of you, the only adult things I've done since turning 18, then 21...is vote, and buy a car with a loan, then pay that off. I'm Not into the rights to smoke or drink, isn't it funny those things are still considered the "adult" hobbies? Oooh and as for voting, where the 2 of you vote, is it the same as where I am? I always feel like the youngest one in line to vote. I'm usually surrounded by 60 year olds and up....wonder where the people our ages are.

Ha! I went at 2 or 3 in the afternoon! I was definitely the youngest one voting there! I was surrounded by 60/70 year old men and women! I was wondering if the current generation didn't care about what was going on, or because it was just the primaries....I know quite a few young people that don't see the reason for voting in the primaries....
Anyways, yes, I definitely have the feeling of being the youngest one voting....bah...

The first time I voted, it was in our mayoral elections, and it was on my college campus...I was the only one voting at the time, and the entire ten minutes I was there, no other college student stopped by.

So sad that people our age supposedly have the most energy, the most passion, and yet we can't even spend ten minutes and VOTE!

bu..but..but voting is something our parents and grandparents did...it's sooo not cool.. Ok scary even to me there...lol Yeah, I do hate it that our generation seems to be the most vocal about politics, especially bashing our leaders....yet takes the least effort in voting.

And...new subject, how about, hmmm.... What's one favorite thing about getting older, a positive, or benefit of it, in your opinions? Mine would be, well, I have a few... simple things for me like having a license to drive, college for me- loved it! I mean, getting to study what I wanted, hanging with friends, water fights on the quad between classes...yeah  we were even videotaped with squirtguns for the next year's freshman orientation! :laughbounce: ...and well now I'm a ahem -cough- more mature adult with a real job and so on..but no, I'm not ancient, yet...though my students told me when I hit 30 in a few years I will be....:p but it's still a fun life!

*feels Tin's ping and looks up* M&Ms? where?

So...I lost track of where this club was, page-wise. We need some posts, people!

So therefore, I'm going to post about the new topic...I love college, too, and the independence of being older, being able to get your own place, car, credit cards, job...without having to have your parent's approval (although approval is nice for when you need your parents for something :P)

There aren't any guys in this group are there? If so, I want to ask them a question about Selective Service and how they feel about having to register when they turn 18. If we don't...well, why not? We should get
some! There's no reason why this should be an entirely female group!

EDIT: Is our low member count indicative of lack of interest, time, or is it more of an age issue? Are there really THAT many tweens and teens on this forum?

Hmm, yesh, we need Eruadan to join, he's male and old enough. Hmm....

Ooo, yes, we need more pages, look at us 2 pages! While the Gentlewoman's society is over one hundred...Hmmm...

Anyways, with everyone, it is great to have a little freedom, owning my own car, having an apartment, making my own choices (no matter how ridiculous they are :teehee: ) Erm, yeah.

OK someone should PM whats-his-name then.....Eruadan that's it. We need more members anyways.

So I found this club on the fourth page. I wish I didn't have to report on the page status...but we really need to keep it on the first two at least!

-passes around more candy bribes- lol Well I'm not sure all the people our age and up, always check the club section...but we'll get our name out there and see what happens. Maybe we should start a contest or poll in those 2 areas of the forum to draw more attention here? What does everyone think? And this week I hated being an "adult"....my car needed major repairs just because of the insane air conditioner, hated having to fork over so much hard earned money for that. Oh well, hottest summer in 10 years so I suppose it's worth it...maybe...sort of... lol :)

Have a great day Everyone!

Hmmm, I agree Tin! Anything to draw attention here would be great. We need more members ! And more pages filled with our excellent conversations! We can be more prosperous than...many of the other clubs out there! :teehee:
