No, saying how many books you've read isn't boasting! At least, I don't think so. I know I've read about 1,000 books since year seven, and I'm sure there are people who've read more than that in a similar time frame. And then there are people who only read a couple of books a year under protest... I guess it takes all types to make a world.
We have a lot of books in boxes in our roof, and scattered throughout the house... we have a lot of really old books, like encyclopedias from the 60s. The oldest I've manage to find so far is a dictionary for 1908, which I thought was cool.

There's a maths book that's from 1753... that's the oldest by far. I have no idea where my mum got it from, but its literally falling to bits. Mum's a maths teacher Luckily, I've never read it It's waaay too complicated.

Old dictionaries are so much fun, if you look hard enough you can find dead words.
Two of my favorite oldish books are the 1967 edition of The Road Goes Ever On, A Song Cycle, which is Tolkien's poems set to music, and the 1965 authorized paperback edition of FotR. I also have some Shakespere that is from the late 1800's.
At my best estimate, I have just under 300 books in my bookshelf, with a few huge piles too. There must be about 400 more of mine downstairs in the library.

You have this Song Cycle! I don't believe it! Are all the poems in there?
I think the oldest books I own are some sorts of prayer books. Rather interesting, because they've got all the Latin in them.

Oi! If I listed all the books on my bookshelf we'd be here til December! I'll just say that I've got a pretty good collection of fantasy and historical fiction books, as those are my two favourite genres.
