It started in 1956 and is still going strong. Each country has their song in the contest and then the viewers from all over Europe get to vote on their favorite song/country. Each country also has a pre-selection contest where they choose which song is to represent their country for that year. It has brought so much music throughout the 50 years it's been going on. I've been a fan of the show since 1987/1988.
