Mine doesn't have any notes, which is really annoying. It has pictures, but not informative notes... :(

At least you had pictures! My copy only has the text ... a lot of it. I know this is about Jane Eyre, but has anyone read any other Bronte books??

It was a good story. I'm glad that after a crumby life Jane had, she got to marry the man of her dreams, even if he was a little older 8) :-D

I can't really remember Wuthering Heights, but I definately didn't dislike it. (I'd remember if I did).

I've recently read "Villette" which thankfully did have footnotes because so much of the major dialogue was in French! I became frustrated because every other page I had to look up something! It was partly because it was set in in France, and several of the main characters were French. Villette's quite different to Jane Eyre - I found it harder to get into, and it had a sad, inconclusive ending. I seem to gather that they didn't live happily ever after.
I think it was good, and unpredictable, but not really what I expected.

I love this book and Wuthering Heights. I'm taking a copy with me to college in two weeks.

have i already posted here? hmm i dont think so...

anyways i read it for (school-assigned) summer reading and loved it. A LOT.

we had our review test yesterday on it. it had five questions: three needed only a two-sentence answer each and two needed a paragraph answer each. i could not stop writing, and i filled up the front AND back of the sheet of notebook paper i was writing on. and i stayed 15 minutes after class to finish...

i really love that book. a lot.

i'll keep you posted on the class discussion - the guys have some REALLY interesting opinions.

I absolutely love(d) Jane eyre when I read it, although I don't know if it's better than P&P in my opinion though. Charlotte Bronte has a very different style of writing than Jane Austen. Jane Austen is lighter and more witty and funny. Bronte is more dark, deep, emotional. I like both styles of writing though.
I cry every time I read Jane Eyre. I fell so bad for her and for Mr. Rochester. I know what you mean. I can feel myslef falling for Edward too (not so much St. John) (and not so much as I fell for Mr. Darcy.). The story is a mystery in one aspect, so it keeps you interested and wondering what will happen next. It's also a beautiful romance. The story of the complete love between Jane and Mr. Rochester is very stirring. I could empathize whole heartedly with Jane in the beginning when she was in love with him but thought that he could never love her. The story also makes you think a lot. It explores some of the deeper meanings of life. I like that aspect of it as well. I think it's a really wondeful book. I don't know anyone else in RL who has read it, so it' nice to be able to discuss it here on A-U!
I've also read Wuthering Heights, since some people were mentioning that book above. I believe that was by Charlotte's sister Emily though. i really liked thta book as well, although not quite as much as I love P&P or Jane Eyre. ;)
