Well... Here comes my entry:




Night

It is dark, utterly dark.
What was this? A window,
a door, maybe the wind,
waking me up
out of my dreams.

There it was again...
No, it can't be a window,
a door or the wind.
It sounds like...
It reminds me of...
footsteps, tapping up the stairs.

I am frightened,
clinging to my sheets.
I was not alone anymore,
someone was coming for me,
coming nearer and nearer,
the footsteps getting louder and heavier,
the door opens...

I see nothing but a shadow,
standing in the door,
not far away from me,
looking at me...
A cloaked figure with a scythe...

OK, here's my entry. It's from the A Walk To Remember, so yha, here we go.... (sry it's kinda long! lol)




I had never shown her any attention.
I had never looked her way.
But by the time I realized I was in love,
I knew that it was too late.

Everything about her was perfect.
She was everybody’s friend.
I will never forget the day I found out,
That her life was soon to end.

All the darkness had finally lifted,
The day her hand touched mine.
But now it seemed to all be coming back.
Things were slowly starting to decline.

I remember going home that day,
And crying all night long.
I felt like my heart had been ripped out;
Everything was going so wrong.

I had dreamed of the day that I would meet,
The one that was perfect for me.
But now that I finally had,
She was being ripped away from me.

A couple days afterwards;
After she’d told me of her news,
She came, stood on my doorstep, looked me in the eye,
And said those blessed words, “I love you.”

I knew I didn’t have long with her,
So I got straight to work.
I made all her wildest dreams come true,
And did my best to hide all my hurt.

And then I did something that I
Never thought would come to be.
I got on my knee, and asked my love,
If she would marry me.

And so it was,
We became husband and wife.
We made our promise,
To be together, for life.

It was a beautiful day;
Everything went great.
Everything was fine,
Until in, crept fate.

We hadn’t been married long,
When suddenly one day,
My angel fainted,
And was taken away.

Her long beautiful hair,
And her sweet tender head,
Now rested on a pillow,
In a hospital bed.

Every day and night,
On that bed she lay.
And slowly, to my horror,
I watched her fade away.

I think about her everyday,
And dream of her each night.
But I know that she is heaven,
And I know that she’s alright.

For now that she is gone,
Her love is like the wind.
I can’t see it,
But I’ll always be able to feel it.

Can I join? I have one question, though--could my entry be accompanied by a music video rather than a picture? Because I wrote one a week or two ago, and I'd love to enter that one if I could... (It's about the story told by the music video's visuals, rather than what the words are saying, if that makes sense...)

I hope I can enter a poem I wrote three years ago... what do you mean by 'original'? 'Not written earlier' or 'not copied or based off anything else'?

Arboreal Reveries

Along a mere lies an ancient oak tree weeping
In dreary tree-shadowed eaves, forlorn and discreet;
A gnarled king crowned in rays of lustrous light;
Streaming blossoms strewn about his twining feet
Are lit by twinkling jewels in the tapestry of night.

Beneath his outstretched arms hangs a faded swing,
Unhinged by thoughtless ravages of time;
Relentlessly a weary tendril clings
To the fraying ends of the swaying twine.

Memories fly across the starlit skies
Like ripples over somber pools of dye:
A brazen Dawn of shining gold ablaze,
Rose-fingerèd with flowing locks of gold;
A tender child not yet come of age,
Laughing as he swung in carefree days of old.

Silently, the old tree mused anew
Remembering blissful years, long-since spent;
His branches swayed, now bedewed,
And with a sigh he stilled, and was content.

To Honor You

I knew you once
You stood, a stolid comrade, beside me
I can picture you now
Your blue eyes in stark clarity
Against your tanned face
We marched to war
To death
You, with your blithe alacrity
I, confident in the knowledge
That you had my back
That no enemy fire could faze us
We were invincible
But how your hard visage softened
With your wife's name on your lips
With the naming of your two sons
And your baby girl
How could you have left them so bereft and alone?
How could God claim your life
But not mine?
We were torn asunder by flame and demolition
In the mass chaos called war
And when the fire ceased
Leaving thousands dead

Refusing to admit

Don't Look Down

Fair one sleeping in your tower--
(Falling lonely through the sky)--
Numb with cold, your spirit calls,
"Don't let me die!"

Hear his call and wake--
Climb through your window, snow-white dove--
On the brink of the abyss, your heart knows this:
You must search for one you love...

Search for your loved one--
Don't stay in darkness:
Slip past bright windows--
Don't look down--just breathe.


You find the path along the towers--
Passing windows, glimm'ring white:
Shadow-worn, your fading heart
Longs for the light:

You touch the glass and smile--
For love that leads you home you ache--
He must pull you from the abyss, or you know this:
Your dying heart will break...

Finding your loved one--
Outside in darkness:
Watch at his window--
Don't look down--just breathe.


You lose your faint hold on his tower,
As half-frozen on the Brink you stand:
Your shadow hair is caught by wind--
But you by his hand:

Held safe before you fall--
Hanging helpless at the rim--
He'll not give you to the Abyss, and you know this:
He'd draw you up with him...

Cling to your loved one--
Escape from the Darkness:
Look to his window--
Don't look down--just breathe.


White shadow falling...falling...floating...sleeping...(Am I dreaming?)
Turn away and hear them coming...


Search for your loved one--
Don't die in darkness:
