Brownfeather hooted and fluffed up his feathers, "Phaw! The King and Queen have been missing for over twenty winters now. The way humans age they're probably long gone by now... or at least old..."

Karara's stance imedietly lost its dangerousness, and she stopped bearing her teeth.

"Bronzeclaw... I havn't seen you sense you were running from that crazy shapeshifter... Where have you been all this time?" Karara seemed exited, "And what are you doing... Here?"

"I've been trying to get that crazy shapeshifter off my tail. When I finally got rid of him, I had to check on my territory. Now for what I am doing here... I am here to greet the newcomers. It's not everyday there is a new comer from the other world... just every two human generations."

Karara's face fell. She slowly turned her large head towards Bronzeclaw, waiting for him to explain, he knew more about Saw than she did.

Bronzeclaw sighed, and said,
"Saw is the enemy. He is human, but he is unlike other humans. He was an outcast, and that led to him become evil. Now he thinks he is king here, and, suprisingly, has many fallowers that harm or even kill us good people. He has probably learned of your existance here."

Kendra whistled, "Wow... okay, one more question... who is this King and Queen who you say has disapeared?"

Brownfeather spoke this time.
"King Thomas, and Queen Elizabeth were the king and Queen of the land. They were good, and I was their royal adviser along with Bronzeclaw and a few others. They disapeared some twenty winters ago... Yeah know... Queen Elixabeth had your hair, Kendra, and the King had your nose too... either that or I've forgotten what they look like..."

"Yes, I agree with Brownfeather. I was sometimes put on duty as a personal body guard for the queen when she traveled." Karara laughed, "Few will go up agaist a lioness who is guarding a royal."

Elly appeared very interested in this description of the King and Queen and how Kendra seemed to look like them. "You mean, she looks like she's related?" she queried, her raised eyebrows giving her face a quizzical expression. "But that can't be right, can it?"

"Yes she does... And I don't know. It is possible I suppose." Karara looked at Kendra and then at Elly, answering her question. Her head jerked to her right as she heard something in the bushes, she then turned back to the girls and Bronzeclaw,

"I think we should get moving, Saw has spies all around..."

"Get moving?" said Elly, looking worried. "Shouldn't we get back? Everyone will be looking for us and the sun's going to go down, we can't go..." she trailed off and cast an anxious glance in the direction they had come. "If we can get back..."

"Of course you can go back," Brownfeather said,"How could I have led you to the doorway if I couldn't get to your world... what do you call it again? Oh yeah, Earth... thats a strange name!"


"Yes, but we should get going... You two humans should go back to your world. It would be great if you could come back," Bronzeclaw said, then added,"I think your horses are already on their way..."

Kendra had been thinking the hole time. Thomas and Elizabeth... those names seemed so familiar...
"What?" she asked.
"Your horses are already on their way home..." Bronzeclaw said.
"What?" Kendra turned and saw that he was right. Their horses were slowly walking back tward the portal, door, thing...

"It seems that they have gotten terribly bored." Karara did not seem alarmed by their leaving. "I did chatch a chat with one of them though, he said that you and your grandparents treat them well. Though he did mention something about a shortage on oats lately." Karara looked at the retreating horses and then back at the girls.

Elly looked relieved, and then a little wistful. "Well," she said slowly, "It would be a pity to leave all of you, I guess - maybe we could just stay a little while."
