Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I was just wandering how these things work. Do you enter themm or are you automatically entered or what?

You have to enter them if you want to enter. You wouldn't want to be placed in a contest if you didn't ask to be.

Well usually you post on the thread saying you would like to join, and your name is put down. Some contests have a limited amount of "spots" open for people to join, so for these contests, you have to post saying "please save me a spot" or something similar.

But if you want to know about contests in general. Let's just say I want to start a contest. I make a thread for my contest (a Lord of the Rings banner). On this thread people join and submit their entries. When all the entries have been submitted, I then start a new thread and voting begins. AU members vote for their favourite entries usually using this method. (Although sometimes a poll is used)

1st Place - 3 points
2nd Place - 2 points
3rd Place - 1 point
Honourable Mention

When the voting has finished, I would then make another thread announcing the winners and also posting an award.

And that's about it really. The Contest Rules can be found <a href="http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21">here</a> and the Contest Directory which gives you all the current AU contests is <a href="http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11034">here</a>. :-)

All contests are posted here, and usually people who host the contests say how many spots are available, so you just post in the thread, if you want to enter. You have to follow the rules given concerning size, theme and deadline etc.
If you want to see a list of the available contests, you can go to the directory, which is stickied on top of this page. Most of the contests are in there.
Enjoy!

EDIT: Well... do I really type that slow, lol... anyway, JF was quicker and now it seems I'm merely repeating what she said...
