he nodded to Turwaithiel, and squinted as the daylight swallowed him up.

Knyn spotted their horses up ahead, still tied to the same tree as when they'd first entered the tomb. He mounted his own gray stallion and waited for the others to do the same. He shaded his eyes and gazed out ahead at the mountains. Fresh sunlight pierced the sepulchral mist, like the lifting of a curse.

"The temple of Rokaria resides in a city east of here. If we ride hard, we should be there by nightfall to evade our... pursuers." He emphasized the wraith minions of the Death Lord that'd hunted them almost the entire way.

As Cadenius stepped out of the cave and into the sunlight, his eyes began to burn. Instantly he placed his hand over his brows to help shield the light. His mouth opened to let a silent yell out as the light slowly grew tolerant but not by a whole lot. He began to mount Trania.

Rain pounded on their heads, falling from heavy clouds that crowned the city walls looming before them. The battlements were dark, taking on an isolated and almost ghastly appearance. Astride his gray stallion, Knyn glanced back at the others before riding forth to confront the sentries.

He found, to his consternation, that there were no sentries. No battlement patrols halted them and demanded their business. In fact, the gates were open.

"Something's amiss," he muttered.

Turwaithiel, who was riding beside him, nodded. "I don't like the smell in the air....or the stillness...I fell danger approaching."

"Tread carefully," Knyn warned quietly. He nudged his nervous stallion forward, beyond the gates. As soon as he entered, he felt a chill literally run down his spine. Regardless of the outside temperature, regardless of the warm rain, the city was cold.

And quiet. Granted, night wasn't a city's most active hour. But this quiet was... utterly silent. The silence of death.

Suddenly his horse balked, rearing up and releasing a shrill whinny. Right in front of the spooked beast, about to be trod on, was a mutilated human corpse.

Turwaithiel's horse whinned and turned, turning them both to look from the side. Her horsed jumped up to his hind legs and she yelled, "Whoa, boy!" But she never took her eyes off the corspe.

The mage eyed this corpse, then got off his hoprse, which had not been spooked as much as the others, for his horse had seen horrors unparralelled to hte other beautiful beasts. He walked over to the corpse, but did not touch it, fearing the plague. But it was not, for the body was utterly mutilated.

Turwaithiel did not unmount her horse, for she feared whatever did this to this poor body was still lurking for fresh victims.

Raelin stayed quiet as he listened to the group talk amoungst themselves.. He looked at the corpse curiously. He just looked at it blankly with no pity, anger, or remorse..
