Ok I must seriously revive my club. Are school is doing the "Adventures of Tom Sawyer" this year. It ran on broadway for a while but it isn't particularily famous. We were actually going to do Suessical this year but my drama teacher changed it because two other schools in the district are doing it as well.

What's your favorite songs from any musical?

Mine is currently Shadowland from Lion King. It tends to change a lot.

I also like "Human Heart" and "Forever Yours" from Once on this Island.
Phantom of the Opera, Wishing you were somehow here again from Phantom of course.
Don't Know how to love him, Jesus Superstar
Oh and PIRATES OF PENZANCE! I don't have a particular song right now because the whole thing is just to funny! If I had to pick one though it probably would be "A Paradox" or "I am the very model of a modern major General."

One of my best friends was actually in that show and his school did an amazing job. He played Samuel. I saw it two times. I would've loved to see it more then that but my time was already booked on the other nights.

Welcome Pippin by the way.

hey! can i join? i absolutely love the theatre and i really want to set up a theatre group for inner city teenagers - that way i could help people and semi-realise my dream of being a director.

i've been acting since i was seven and i've played toad in 'wind in the willows', lucy in 'the lion the witch and the wardrobe' (twice), both jenny jones and her marshesty in 'the incredible vanishing', angelo in 'the sweeney todd shock n roll show', zeus in 'pandemonium', the old woman in 'brokenville' and lennox/angus/caithness in 'macbeth'. i also played mustafa (a 15 year old boy who was very attached to his uzi) and a soldier in a play called 'fran's war' that was written especially for my theatre company. i seem to have played a lot of men, despite being a girl, but that's just because my theatre company never had enough guys.

i also go to the theatre a lot - highlights were 'phantom' and 'les mis' in the west end, kneehigh theatre's 'tristan and isolde', a touring theatre group's production of 'macbeth', and 'romeo and juliet' at the rsc. i also love the ballet and i'm going to the opera for the first time next summer for my birthday. i'm going to the rsc again tomorrow to see the musical of 'the merry wives of windsor' with judi dench, alistair mcgowan and simon callow and i can't wait!

oh, and my favourite song from a musical is possible one day more from 'les mis' - the counterpoint section is incredible, and i get tingles down my spine when they all come together at the end. it's really hard to choose for definite though.

Thanks for once again ressurecting this clud, Falathiel! I resurrected it back at the end of August, but it didn't last too long... but now tis revived again!!! :-D
Not much has been going on in my theatre world lately, mainly because I can't be in a play till next spring (when my school has their one-act play festival, the only extracurricuar thing i can do other than my choir!!!) and this summer (when i go to this amazing theatre camp). I've been very acting-deprived, and tis making me sad cuz i really wanna be in a play soon!!! except i can't. :'( although my school drama club just put on The Cmplete Works of Wllm Shkspr Abridged, which was hilarious!!!! in case u've never seen it, tis about these people who try to put on all of shakespeare's plays in less than 2 1/2 hours, and they are absolutely clueless when it comes to performing shakespeare. they do a ton of funny things to all his plays, such as combining all of his comedies into one big one, putting a modern twist on one by turning it into a cooking show, and performing hamlet at light speed, and then backwards!!! Lol. that's pretty much all the theatre for me since this summer.

Anyhoo, favorite songs from any musicals... i have a ton!!! i shall categorize them by musical.

Yea Mrs. Bloom that's about how long my list is too but I didn't have enough time to post them all.

I see we have so shakespeare fans (duh? What true thespian doesn't appreciate Shakespeare?) Have any of you done Shakespeare festivals or been in a play or anything. This year I competed in the monolauge competion in the SUU's Shakespeare Festival. I actually placed in the top ten of my divison and (our school had three monolauge ladies) with our scores combined we placed third.

And of course you may join! I've been acting since I was about seven too.

ooo, ooo, i'm a shakespeare fan. like i said before, i was in a production of 'macbeth' a couple of years ago - i was officially playing lennox, but because it was a slightly adapted version with a smaller-than-required cast, the role included most of angus and caithness's lines as well. it was still the smallest part in the play, but i didn't really mind - macbeth is my second favourite play ever (after 'waiting for godot') so just being in it was great.

thus far i have seen three shakespeare plays:
- 'macbeth' was performed by a touring company with only 5/6 actors and i thought it was absolutely stunning with some very interesting symbolism - the stage blocks gradually tilted throughout the play, representing the increasing chaos of macbeth's mind; the costumes were from a variety of time periods, giving the impression that the story happened in every period of history; the fight sequence at the end was particularly stunning due to macbeth and macduff thrashing it out in a big pool of water; and the performances were all top notch.
- 'the tempest' was also done by a small touring company, and the doubling of parts was very interesting and seemed to say a lot about prospero's opinions of the characters - miranda was also ariel (daughter as ethereal, almost angelic being) and ferdinand was also caliban (son-in-law as monster trying to steal daughter away). i don't generally find shakespearean comedy funny, but this did suceed in making me laugh in parts.
- i saw 'romeo and juliet' at the royal shakespeare theatre and i wasn't quite so impressed - mercutio was rubbish (tried to play it like harold perrineau in baz lurhman's film but failed miserably), the set didn't make sense, and the latent necrophilia in the tomb scene seemed even more disturbing than usual. however, there were some interesting stylistic choices - the actors tap danced instead of fighting, which may sound terrible but was actually very effective because of the incredible noise it made; and the actors sat around the edges of the stage even when they weren't acting, which reminded you that everyone was involved in the tragedy that was unfolding. overall it was good, but not as good as i was expecting from the royal shakespeare company.

i'll have to report back on 'the merry wives of windsor' at the weekend.

Oh, oh, I'd like to join! I've been in mini-plays before... but only for VERY small audiences. This is the roles I've done so far.

Pharoah - History of Egypt
Extra - Easter Story
Sword Stunt Work - Robin Hood
Water Stunt Work - Mermaid Tales
Sword Stunt Work - King Richard 2

And right now, I'm doing the role of Merry Brandybuck in a mini-LotR play. I WANTED to be Galadriel [*cries*]... but they said I couldn't because I'm too short.

I love musicals too! I hope someday I can be in a musical... oh gosh I'd love to be a part of the crowd in a dance routine. Probably'll never get to though.

well, last night i went to see merry wives the musical at the royal shakespeare theatre, so here's my promised report:

the cast was pretty impressive, with four well-known faces (well-known in britain at least) - judi dench was playing mistress quickly, simon callow was falstaff, alistair mcgowan was ford and haydn gwynn was mistress page.

judi dench was rather disappointing (never really lit the stage up and completely fluffed one of her lines) but everybody else was brilliant. i though alistair mcgowan was particularly good and i was pleasantly surprised by his singing voice.

overall, it was AMAZING!!! the whole thing was camp as a row of pink tents, but in the best way possible. the image of alistair mcgowan doing the tango with a russell brand lookalike is one that will remain with me for a long time yet!

me and my friend hung round the stage door for a bit afterwards and saw simon callow, alistair mcgowan (who waved at us) and haydn gwynn, which was pretty cool. didn't see judi dench though - either she was still trying to get out of her ridiculous costume or they'd smuggled her out some other way.

Of course you can! Hehe, I've been in Peter Pan twice.....*remembers getting to push and shove and scream and get dirty on stage cause she was a lost boy* Good times.

Lucky duck, Eowyn! I'd love to see the Merry wives musical. Judi Dench fluffed a line? :jawdrop: wow. She's suppose to be fantastic though all actors get the brain dead moment onstage at some point so it's not fair to judge. But I can understand you being dissappointed. And yea they probably smuggled her out lol.

OMG!!!!!!!!! I HAVE HUGE NEWS!!!!!
For Christmas, "Santa" got my family tickets to go see Wicked on Broadway at the beginning of April!!!!!!!! :jawdrop: i've been wanting to see this for ages!!!!!! :-D I absolutely cannot wait!!!!! :-D Although i'd much rather see it in London on the West End within the next few days, cuz Idina Menzel is only playing Elphaba there till New Years. But there's been absolutely no way in humanity that I could possibly get over there to see her... :'( Oh well, at least I'm seeing it at all. Who else in this club has seen it?

What? You're to selfish to give me you're tickets? Is that it?

Just joking. I wouldn't give anyone my ticket either. ;)

Oh my god. That's INCREDIBLE news!

:jawdrop:

I'm of course jealous. But I'm very excited that you get to go. Have lots of fun! Yay for Wicked! I remember, my highschool puts on what they call a "Caberet." Not THE Caberet, but just music and comedy and dancing...and such. :P But there was this girl, who got to see Wicked on Broadway...and did lots of the songs. Ha ha ha...we were all VERY jealous needless to say.

Anyway, have fun!!!

At my university, they put on Richard III, Antigone, and I worked on two Pinter plays. "The Room" and "Celebration." Both...very odd. I never understood why it was sold out each night. :P

"Interesting" is an understatement. Most of the time I was confused about what was going on. And had to endure rather bad English accents. When I went to a run-through for the first time...oh dear. I've used the term "bored to tears" before, but never meant it literally until I was at that run-through. Literally bored out of my mind...I couldn't believe it. And it went extra slow BECAUSE it was a run-through. The only reason I paid some attention was because a really good friend of mine was in them. "Celebration" had some funny parts...but it was as if it was trying to hard. :P And "The Room," well...very, very, very...boring. Nearly keeled over and died. The ending of that one...scared the crap out of me. Not just because it comes out of NOWHERE...but because it got very loud (with yelling) and I had started to doze off. :P
