I absolutely love His Dark Materials. At first I was sceptical, but they are so brilliant! I have to admit I think I actually shed a tear at the end of The Amber Spyglass

^ Ditto. I couldn't stop. And when I found the seat, i was so happy/ sad that I started crying. I wanted to hug the seat. But for some reason, (probably jet lag) my conscience said, "No. This seat is sacred. You can look, but don't touch."
That just made me cry even more.

I have a strange conscience.

When I was finishing up The Amber Spyglass, first I just got really mad. I almost threw the book at the wall. And then I also cried my eyes out- I'll admit it. :P

And that is amazing, Mel!! That's just so cool that you found the seat. I want to go there someday.

I've been tinkering with rereading the whole series! I just love them so much I hope they come out with a movie that fits the book!

I really really really wanted to read this series, but I didn't have enough time! I'll try again after I finish all the books on my current reading list.

You definately should, Firaeya- they're really good. :)

The movie is looking pretty good so far. I just hope that it turns out well and that they do the book justice. The people seem to fit their roles, at least by looks, so far.

I have a question about his books----would The Golden Compass be a good book to write a book report on? I mean, does it have prominent themes, common issues in society today, etc? And is it necessary to read ALL of the books and not just the first one?

Oh! I've been meaning to respond! :duh:

I honestly think "The Golden Compass" would be a brilliant novel to write a book report on! When I first read it....way back when I was a wee little lass...I just thought it was a good read. XD But, as I've read it a few times since then, I've most definately noticed and realized the themes that are VERY prominent in it. I really do believe you can relate it to today's world. Now, whether or not you agree with them is well...completely up to you. XD It's a BRILLIANT read.

I think you should read the entire trilogy. Everything together makes sense on entirely different levels. The themes are expanded upon more in depth. New themes are brought up. BUT, I suggest you read "The Golden Compass" and make up your mind whether or not to finish the trilogy. Because the first one, does very well on its own.

But yeah, it's a perfect book for a report! And I hope you do read it. And the whole trilogy. It's a very fascinating read. Very exciting and insightful. Looks at things from an entirely different angle. :)

I was hoping to read the Golden Compass for the book report, but if I need to read the entire trilogy, I probably won't. Because the book itself is 399 pages and I'm only allowed to choose a 150-300 page book, so I'm kind of pushing but I'm hoping to get the book.

Well, I think you should give it a shot! Like I said, it can stand on its own as its own work. Without needing to read the rest of the trilogy.

But, as a fan of the trilogy, I think after reading "The Golden Compass" and writing your report, you should read the rest of the trilogy. XD ;) XD

So, I hope you choose to read "The Golden Compass." I think you'd enjoy it. :)

(Is it really 399 pages??? Sheesh, for some reason I thought it was shorter....;) *runs off to check her own copy* Mine's even shorter! XD XD XD)

xD Well, I don't know----some copies are weird and they have more pages. I'm just trying to find a book that I'm like, "LOOK IT'S SHORT ENOUGH, LEMME READ PLZ, KTHNX!"

I've been reading the trilogy since last Mondy, and I'm about 250 pages from the end... I'm enjoying them.... but they're not exactly happy books are they? 0.o And I must admit some of it has confused me, but I think most of it has been explained... sort of... and some of the big words and theories are a bit much for my poor brain to comprehend....

^ Actually Kit, I kinda saw that coming. It was too much for this man and woman to hate each other and for the child to be in the middle without their being more to it.

*goes off to be confuzzled*
