Naidele awoke with a small moan. Her head was throbbing, and she had no idea what was going on. She tried to pull her hands up to comfort her aching head, but she found that they were firmly secured behind her back. Then realization his her. They had been captured! She could have screamed. How could they let this happen? How could they have been so unprepared? She decided that it was best not to let her captors know that she was awake, so she kept her head down. She could hear the eerie demon voices, and she could tell that there were many of them and that they were all around her. Despite her firm resolve not to, she trembled in fear. What would they do to her? Where was her sister? Khienro? Aeryn? Orindil? Cautiously, she lifted her head ever so slightly. Night had fallen, and she saw a few camp fires. She gathered that the demons had stopped to make camp for the night. She peered around looking for her companions. She gave a small sigh of releif when she saw them all. They all appeared to be unconcious. Khienro was not far from her. She wondered if she should risk trying to get his attention. Finally she decided she would. Slowly, she reached out her foot and kicked his ankle hoping that he would wake.

Strange dreams frequented Nakaida's sleeping thoughts. Demons chasing her...then Orindil telling her she was horribly unprepared and had better give up right now - and Nakaida felt herself wanting to agree. To hang her head and admit that they were beaten. She moaned in her sleep and abruptly her thoughts dissolved into nothingness again.

Khienro woke, something hitting him in the ankle, lifting his head from the ground, he saw Naidele, thankfully awake, and also that one of his hands had been bound behind him, while the other - the one with the broken wirst - was bound to his chest in a crude - but effective - splint. Looking around, he could hear, and sometimes make out one or two demon figures. As quietly as he could manage, he got himself upright, the distant firelight dimly revealing a nasty purple bruise tinted with blood on the side of his head. Slowly making his way over to Naidele, he looked around.

"Thank goodness you're not dead..." He said, whispering, "But... What in the name of goodness is going on?" He winced as he had to move his arm slightly to get into a reasonable posistion.

"And why does my head feel like someone decided to use it as an anvil...?"

Naidele heaved a sigh of relief when Khienro finally awoke to her kicking. She had been worried that he wouldn't be able to regain conciousness. She winced at the large bruise on the side of her head. By the pain that she was feeling, she reasoned that she must look close to the same.
"I'm so glad that you okay... or well at least alive," she whispered, "I was worried that I wouldn't be able to wake you." She glanced around just to make sure that none of the demons had been alerted of their awareness. "We've been captured," she continued in a whisper, "The last thing I remember is trying to help Nakaida, and then something struck me in the back of the head, and then everything went dark." She heard a moan, and she looked over to see Nakaida stirring in her sleep. Nakaida was too far away for Naidele to reach with her foot as she had Khienro, so she whispered, "Nakaida!" Her sister looked to be in a deep sleep. Naidele wondered if it was any use trying to wake her.

Orindil groaned, rolling his head over something hard he was leaning against. His head felt numb... as if an army of dwarves had simultaneously decided to march across his temples... With a start his silver eyes flashed open. Distant lights flickered in his hazy vision, then solidified into campfires. He glanced askance at the others. Nakaida was still unconscious, but Naidele and Khienro were already awake. Their horses were tethered fifty feet away in a small copse of aspens.

Abruptly he snapped his head back down, feigning unconsciousness, as two of the mishapen creatures came limping over. "Keepers... awake..." one rasped with its slithering voice.

Khienro quickly thought of what he could do, and then decided the best thing was to go limp. He leaned back silently and closed his eyes, evened out his breathing and stayed as still as he could. Unfortunatly, going limp meant falling ontop of Naidele's shoulder. He stayed like this until the demons had passed, hoping that Naidele was doing somewhat the same, so that they would not be caught. Once they left, after poking them, and kicking them around a bit, he opened his eyes, wincing as his arm started to hurt again from the creatures light abuse. He then realized he was still leaning agaist Naidele's shoulder. Quickly removing himself from the posistion, he turned around, and an odd silence followed. Even when they were supposed to be silent it was odd.

"I uh... Sorry..." Khienro mumbled, "Did they see you?" He asked, concerned.

Naidele caught movement out of the corner of her eye. She turned her head, and she saw Orindil move, but then he abruptly went still and at the same time Khienro fell onto her shoulder. She looked forward and immediately saw why. Two demons were walking towards them. Abruptly Naidele leaned her head against Khienro's and closed her eyes. She didn't think they had seen her, but she stayed in that same still spot until she was sure that they had moved on. When she heard their footsteps getting farther away she lifted her head. "That's fine," she said to Khienro's apology, "You did the right thing. And I'm not sure if they saw me or not." She gave a small shudder. "I hope they didn't." She paused to make sure that the demons were not returning. "What should we do?" she whispered to Khienro. She knew that he was just as helpless as her, but still she needed to ask. Hopeless despair washed over her. She wished she had never left her home.

Nakaida moaned again in her sleep and her eyes flickered weakly open. Her arm, which had several long, deep parallel gashes in it, had been crudely bound, but she was still pale. "Demons..." she murmured, and came more fully awake. "Naidele...are you all right? Is everyone all right..."

Naidele immediately turned at the sound of her sister's voice. "Nakaida!" she whispered thankfully. It was hard not to shout with joy, but she knew no good would come of that. "Thank the Goddess! I was so afraid you were too far gone. I think everyone's awake. And I'm fine. Are you alright?" Naidele didn't think Nakaida looked so good. She was pale and her arm was cut up pretty badly.

"Fine..." Nakaida managed, but it wasn't really true. "How could we!" she moaned, grimacing. "We're not even here a week and already..."

She didn't need to say it. But clearly she felt miserable, both mentally and physically.

Khienro dropped his head. He was the one who was supposed to protect them, and now, not even a week into it, they were all captured, some injured.

"I.... I think the only thing we can do is wait it out, and be observant for an escape route. But we need to stay together at all cost. Especially you two." He then looked at Naidele and Naikada, unable to gessture any other way.

Nakaida let her head drop where she sat - or more accurately, half-sat, half lay. She clenched her teeth. Much as she wanted to think she'd blown it, that even with her and her sisters' best efforts they'd failed, she knew there was no hope left for any of them if they gave up now. She swallowed - swallowed the pain in her arm and the guilt she felt over letting this all happen and the nagging thought that she could have prevented it - and nodded.

"Yes. Stay together."

Orindil glanced at the distant campfires and said quietly, "Wait until noon. Their powers wane in daylight."

"What have we here... Keepers are awake," came a rasping laugh from behind them. The half-demons prodded them to their feet. Orindil caught himself before he stumbled, for his knees had been bound as well.

"Okay, noon," Naidele agreed with a nod. She gasped when she saw the half-demons approaching. She tried to fake sleep, but it was too late. They had seen that they were all awake. She almost fell when she was roughly pushed to her feet. It hurt to stand on her ankle. She had probably twisted it at some point during their fight. She turned to face the demon who had pushed her to her feet. She didn't want to have her back turned to it for too long.

"I swear by the Goddess, you'll pay for this," she hissed angrily. She wasn't sure how she was really going to come through with that threat since she was a captive, but it felt good to say it. "You think by serving Okandar you'll gain power," she continued, "But you're wrong. Every last one of you is going to die."

Nakaida took the longest to rise - she was still pale and looked to be yet recovering from the significant exertion it had taken to maintain a whirlwind for as long as she had. The blood loss from her injured arm had not improved matters, either.

When she stood unsteadily she did not echo Naidele's words but was mute, with only an anxious glance up - Nakaida wondered if it was perhaps wise to provoke the creatures that seemed to have so effortlessly subdued them.

Khienro stood somewhat easily, but gave a sharp cry when one of his captors slammed its disfigured forearm into his injured wrist. The effect on him was worse, because of the surprise of it all. As they moved along with the demons, Khienro slowly made his way back over to Naidele,

"That little speech of yours back there was a bit... Stupid." He hated to call her stupid, but he honestly couldn't think of any other way to say it. "One, they need to think that we are helpless, and then we can surprise them. Even though you are a keeper, the demon's kind can get cocky and over zealous easily..." He shot a glare at one of the scouts beside him, who didn't even notice him. "And," he continued, "They could have killed you on the spot if they wanted to." This sentence was filled with half accusation, half worry. "Just don't let them-" Khienro was then cut off when one of the guards realized that they were talking. He was kicked sharply in the shins before being hauled of to the other side of the escort.
