Gah, I wish Tolkien was still alive. I have so many questions I want to ask him. My siblings and rl friends wouldn't have a clue what we were talking about, but I'm sure I wouldn't get bored spending an afternoon talking with him, though he might get tired of answering questions...

Yeah, so he doesn't count. We'll have to assume Elros was the best of them all at everything--height, strength, etc.

hehe indeed, the first king was a good leader for the people...and he didnt let it fall to darkness, to bad that later in the years they tried to stand against the gods and fell into Sauron`s trick.

Well, I don't think I shall ever like Ar-Pharazon, despite his cool name. Which isn't as cool as Ar-Adunakhor's name, but still pretty cool. And Ar-Adunakhor's name isn't as cool as Tar-Palantír's name. His is the coolest.

^ I'm sure you may! Welcome!
Hmm... it really wasn't easy to choose who my favourite Numenorian King is... actually it's Elros of course, but beside him... I think I have to go with Tar-Palantir as well, Aerandir!

Thanks. Hmmm... my favorite Numenorian King... I think I'd have to go with Elros too. It's a hard choice though.

We will fill you in on all the little details that only fanatics like us would take the time to memorize, Tur.
Hmm....Elros is cool, but Tolkien doesn't say nearly enough about him. Of course, it's pretty much the same amount as he says about Tar-Palantír, but we know more about Numenor from the time of Tar-Palantír than we do from Elros's time.

Well, that's mostly because at Elros' time in Numenor there were nearly no conflicts, no upcoming war, no war at all. If nothing special happens, there's nothing you can tell about. But that just proves that he was indeed a great king.

Yeah, he was a great king. We just don't know enough about him for me to think that he's as cool as Tar-Palantír.

the only thing I know about Numenor (please correct me if something's wrong) are about these: men lived there, and then they did something wrong and they had to leave. Elros was a king in Numenor (he chose to be a man, and he was Elrond's brother am I right?) aaand.. Numenor no longer exists that's all my knowledge so I hope I'll learn something new here

^ Yup, you'll definitely learn more about Numenor in here!
Yes, Elros is the brother of Elrond, and yes, he chose to be a man, he lived for ~500 years and then died piecfully in Numenor. He was the first king for 300 years... I believe... I'm not sure with the numbers...

Well, I don't have my copy of The Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-earth sitting nearby, so I can't check the dates. Sorry, Erana.
But basically, Inwenyárë, Numenor was a star-shaped land specifically for the Edain, the three houses of humans who fought for the Elves during the wars in Beleriand. Elros was the first king.
In the end, the last king of Numenor captured Sauron in Middle-earth, and took him to Numenor, where Sauron decieved him and became his top advisor before long. Eventually, the king (Ar-Pharazon the Golden) rebelled completely against the Valar, going so far as to attempt an invasion of Valinor. In that time, Eru took a hand in events and basically raised mountains over Ar-Pharazon and his army, trapping them (in sleep?) until the end of days. He also caused Numenor to sink back into the sea, and all who were on it were lost. Elendil and his sons (Anarion and Isildur) had been waiting in Nine (full) ships with those who were left of the Faithful (those who refused to rebel against the Valar), and they escaped the destruction and sailed to Middle-earth, where some of the Faithful had fled before (not all the Gondorians and Arnorians came one those nine ships, lol), where they established the kingdoms of Arnor (under Elendil) in the North, and Gondor (joint rule by Anarion and Isildur) in the South.
When Anarion was killed in the seven-year-long siege of Barad-dur, Isildur became the sole ruler of Gondor, and later, after Elendil's death, he became the ruler of both kingdoms.
So that's the highly shortened versin of the story.
