That is soo unbelievable!
Was it possible to choose a companion when sailing into the undying lands? Is that how Legolas chose Gimli, or is it a case of they were in the quest and therefore they were guarenteed a place to the undying lands?

Gimli wanted to see Galadriel in his old age, and Galadriel, being the influential kinda elf she was, got sum1 to let him live in Aman. They werent guaranteed a place in aman coz they were in the quest, like merry n pippin didnt go to th eundying lands.

Yup, EonwesBestMate is totally correct. It's in the Appendices, if you care to take a gander. The Appendices are cool.

wow! lol i really must take a look at those. Is it stated if anything ever happened between Gimli and Galadriel? I mean surley if she liked him enough to get a space on the ship to the undying lands there must have been something there. Legolas and Gimli rule!

Yeah...besides you CAN admire someone and not be in love with them....And I don't see an elf and a dwarf together no matter what.

hee hee hee never!
I would think that if Gimli and Galadriel ever did get together then that would be one twist in the tale. I think it would be fantastic but poor ol' Celeborn...it coul dnever have been and plus i think they have such a strong friendship anyway

That wud have been harsh of tolkien. Celeborn aint got no mates anyway and hes just so surley that no one wud want to be his mate so hed just be properly unhappy if Gimli stole Galadriel lol.

That seems kind of presumptuous, because we don't know that Celeborn didn't have any friends or anything--that's just a supposition. For all we know, he could have been an incredibly social person. Perhaps he had dozens of friends--Tolkien didn't write about it, so we'll never know. At any rate, I've never considered Celeborn to be a surly fellow--I considered him to be a typical benevolent Elven Lord.
