The mantle of night seemed to settle upon the chamber again. The torches flared back to life - or could it be called life? For instead of vermilion flame, they flared black, further deepening the sepulchral iniquity.

"I am... impressed..." Lord Okandar intoned, though his voice implied quite the opposite. He took a fluid step forward, and his ebony robes swirled behind him as if provoked by an unseen wind. "You're not weary are you, Keepers?"

"You leave them be, you cowardly snake!" Aeryn yelled before he could stop himself. He didn't liek this man hurting his friends.

Naidele gasped for breath as she watched the mages fall. Creating the huge fireball had taken most of her strength. She looked to Nakaida and noticed that her face was pale and she looked just as weary as Naidele must have.

Suddenly the torches flamed up, and Okandar came back into the room. She hated the smug look on his face, and she wanted nothing more than to kill him. Her hate for him helped her muster what little strength she had left.

"Weary?" she spat in reply to his question, "You will have to muster more than that, Okandar." She hoped he couldn't see through her lie, but she feared that he could.

Aeryn was about to go and help support Naidele, but he thought that Okandar would noticed her tire, so he held back.

"Not weary, no," said Nakaida, and indeed her appearance was not that of one who had just maintained a rampaging whirlwind - eyes blazing and head held high, she was indeed a formidable opponent. "We are not such simpletons to have wasted all our efforts on your petty mages."

A taunting smile flickered across her face. "You'll have to do better than that."

Okandar raised his arms to his sides, and his voluminous sleeves whipped behind him like a raven's wings. His voice echoed tauntingly. "I'm here, am I not. Throw your best at me."

"You are cowardly! Of course, that's why you are evil...evil ones are born cowardly!" Aeryn yelled.

Nakaida regarded him warily. Something seemed wrong here, she was sure of it. But what other course of action was available to her?

Gently at first, tendrils of breeze plucked at Okandar's robes, and in an instant they had intensified into a whirling maelstrom of icy air. In another instant it had disappeared altogether and Nakaida was eyeing the sorcerer with something akin to desperation. Something's wrong, she thought frantically. What is it?

The maelstrom of icy air deluged all sight of Okandar but with no traces of resistance forthcoming. For a long while it seemed the simple albeit powerful spell had actually defeated him -

A chill laughter bearing an ice to rival the maestrom itself dashed all hopes. Orindil pivoted around to see Okandar now behind them and looking none too daunted.

"Fools!" he spat. "You think you can defeat me, Lord Okandar, master of all the elements! Too long have you drowned in ignorance!"

Naidele spun to face Okandar. In rage and desperation, she flung a fireball towards him. She knew that it would do no good, but still she had to try something. She didn't know what she could do to defeat him.

In a split second the sphere of flame had swelled to double, then triple its size as Nakaida added her formidable power to Naidele's effort. Now wind tossed the flickering flames, whipping them into a frenzy until the whole chamber lit as if with some unearthly light. Grimly Nakaida motioned with her open hand and it hurtled toward Okandar.
