STORY:
Deep in the heart of Neboia, in a high canyon oasis, the Yanua trible lives in peace. Known comenly to the rest of Neboia as the mysterious 'bird people', they have little contact with the rest of the world, due to the altitude at which their dwellings lie. They raise and care for wonderous birds of all shapes and sizes, including the legendary - but shy - Hanari eagle. These eagles, matching a dragon in size, come in many varying colors, and are the pride of the Yanua. Almost all of the tribe ride them, and they who don't learn to. They provide contact with the rest of Neboia, and there is a small, skilled group of messangers, The Toru-hi, who occasionally fly down to make contact as needed, or hunt, if need be, though it is rarely needed in the plentiful area of the Yanua. Infact, the eagles who earn the most respect out of the small tribe are rarely ridden, though they are ever present, either flying in the sky, or keeping a watchful eye on their grateful keepers.
But an evil is rising... The wind is changing... And the Hanari are dying. Bizarre, unexplainable deaths are taking the Hanari, one by one, all with no trace of the killer. As the deaths climb in numbers, the Toru-hi are also at risk. These elite ranger like men are bonded to their eagles, and as the eagles die - so do they. They die slower than their beloved birds, who apparently die instantaniously, but experience many odd symptoms, such as severe shivering, constant, raging fever - but at the same time cold to the touch, and also fearful, meaningless rambling. No one knows what any of this means, but some have heard rumors, a whisper on the wind that an evil is rising in Neboia... And that they are the first victims of it's deadly clutches. And in tune with this, the elderly, local historian and wiseman, Zhicoal, can only mutter one forboding sentence... "The skies grow ever darker."
YANUA, HANARI, AND THE TORU-HI:
The Yanua is largish tribe of humans, though they have traces of elf in their blood if you go back far enough. Because of this, they have exelant balace, hearing, sight, and several other attributes. Adding to this, almost all of them are well schooled in martial arts - for self defense, and in weather prediciton - for flying, of course. All of the Yanua are dark-haired, having striaght jet black hair, and if this is not so, then very, very dark brown hair is the case. The only exeption to this is if the being is elderly, then he or she has white hair, though it is still straight.
The Hanari long ago befriended the ancestors of the Yanua, and live amoung them, serving them at will. They are one of the few intellegent birds in Neboia, and are content to watch over their 'children' as they call the Yanua, for they truely are like children to the huge birds, who can age to over 900 years old. They are very, very friendly to those they love, and are full of wisdom. Although they are skilled mind-readers, the Hanari only read minds if nessesary, or for interigation.
The Toru-hi consist mainly of men, as is custom. They are bonded to their eagles, making it so they have contact at all times, along with very intimate friendship with each other, also, they are very, very dependent on each other. If one is injured, the other will be preoccupied, and if one dies, the other may possibly die, though it differs depending how long they have been bonded to one another. The Tori-hi position is usually passed from father to son, the eagle usually going from father to son as well, until he dies. If there is more than one son, then a both sons become Toru-hi, and the eldest inhereits his father's eagle. The ealges belonging to this group are all from the same bloodline, and are of some of the strongest and wisest of their kind.
