I can imagine that it is popular. :) It must be nearly every child's dream to design his or her own teddy bear. :)

@ Rose - thank you. :-) I have a lot of cuddlies that hold special memories.

@ Jax - I believe it was because Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt shot a bear, and the story became rather famous, so some toy factor produced a toy bear and called it a "Teddy" bear, in honour of the president and the bear. They were extremely popular in America and it spread all over the world. The German toy factory Steiff also made teddie bears popular over in Europe.

@JF: I didn't know the Roosevelt story before. That sounds pretty interesting. :)

Well, maybe it's also only the fact that teddy bears (and real baby bears) are so cute and that everyone likes them. :)
Just consider all the events that take place in Berlin Zoo right now because of the little icebear baby Knut. There are reporters from all over the world and Knut is nearly as famous now as many other celebrities.

Ohh yeah the Knut-fever... quite an event!!Anyway, I have never been much of a teddy-fan - never had any...

Welcome to the club, Slickman_G, and welcome to the forum! :-)
If you have an 'adult' story to share as an introduction, you're more than welcome to do so, like if you voted yet or what things you have done as an adult you couldn't do as under age... or simply anything you want to share! :angel:

On the whole spanking issue;
Any sort of physical punishment on your kids (whether it be spanking, beating, hitting, kicking etc) is absolutely, completely and totally against the law in Sweden. I agree to 100% with that law. Under no circumstances whatsoever is it OK to hit your child. None whatsoever. So there's my stance ;)

On Disney films;
I adore Disney films and always have done! Favorites include Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Pocahontas, Fantasia, Beauty & the Beast among others. What I don't like though is how 'Americanized' the old classics have become through Disney (meaning edited and changed to fit the American family morals, ethics and values). If the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen stories were good enough for children a hundred years ago they are sure good enough for children today!

Hmm... I don't know!!! *thinks really hard* I don't think I had many stuffed animals... I never slept with any... *ponders deep* I think I might have a couple sitting on my bed though... in fact a polar bear cub, quite like Knut!! :-)

But I do have favorite Disney films!! For the cartoons my favorites are Lion King, Aladdin and Mary Poppins :-D

I absolutely adore the Lion King, and all of the old disney films, they beat any of the new animated films hands down!

On the topic of teddies, I still have a fox that I was given when I was born, he now has no tail, but he's going strong.
His name is Foxy :)

That points to Drunk-related stories I think!:

On my 18 birthday I went into town with some mates with the intention of getting very drunk, its my 18th, its the law :), the next morning, I woke up in a field I have never been in before, 10 miles away from my house with £1000 in my pocket!

It turns out we went to bingo, but I still have no idea how i got in the field! It took me ages to walk back, with a hangover aswell, and the fact that I went the wrong way to begin with doesnt help! :D

Well, Lion King must be an all time favourite!! But I think many new animated movies are great as well - Disney needed the competition! :-)

Umm... you won £1000??? That's pretty good for a birthday present!! But with that amount of money, you could have taken a taxi home.... but perhaps walking was good for you at that point!! :P

i totally agree - much as i love disney films, the original stories are sooo much better. there are some fairy tales that disney will never touch because there's no way they could disney-fy them and make them all bright and happy, and for that i am very grateful. at least some stories will be left alone and so remembered for what they are, not what disney thinks they should be.

Disney already Disney-fied many stories... they romantized Pocahontas even though it might originally have been a story about violence and incest. They sweet-ified The little Mermaid since Hans Christian Andersen had her dying for love in the end.
But it's alright... it's all about interpretations... artistic freedom!! Hehe :P

I would have got a taxi If I knew where I was, and by the time i realised, I might as well have just walked anyway!

Yep, Walt disney wasn't a racist, Honest!

And I love beauty and the beast aswell, disney films can have such great underlying morals!
