Well...a good fantasy doesnt have to have sooooooooo much detail.
Narnia isnt even close to 800 pages, and look how much ppl love them.
anyways...I dont even think The Hobbit, The Sil and all 3 LOTR books are even 800 pages.

Well, LotR is over 1000 and it never was supposed to be 3 books.

If you count each book invdiualy (sp..) then their only about 400. but all together, yes, 'bout a thousand.
'sides. I dont think pages matter in a book. as long as the story is good, then thats good enough for me.

Don't you think that the Dwarves and Elves in Eragon are a bit too similar to Tolkien's Elves and Dwarves? Even their languages sound the same! And is it just me or does "Farthen Dûr" remind you of "Barad-dûr"? Sounds similar to me. *shrug*
Elves' laughs: " It was a wondrous sound, like flutes and harps trilling with delight at their own music." And "their clear, pure voices".
Jeez.
And I read in the first book... somewhere, it mentioned the Elves coming to the land from a far-off place on silver ships... what the heck? Does CP really have nothing better to do than copy peoples' writings? He has a bunch of jibberish words that SOUND like Tolkiens' languages and he calls them languages! They don't even have a structure... how can those be languages?
Plus, Eragon is a downright Mary-Sue. Even RORAN was always thinking "Oh, I'm not as good as Eragon.." or "Eragon could do this but I can't!".. "I'm not as strong as Eragon!"... "Eragon's skills are all better than mine." Yeah whatever, Paolini...

I kinda disagree with the Elves. I mean, arent Elves in general the Fair Folk, and are always happy and cheery? its not like Tolkien made up all those attributes for the elves on his own. an Elf is a known, general fantasy creature.

Fine.. I'll give you that... but the way they act?
And how about those other points I made?

lol. I agree with the ships. but with the Mary-Sue thing...I dont know what that means or who that is.
I dont really care how much CP copied. doesnt really bother me. so I think nothing can really convince me to completely stop liking the Inheritance series.

Mary-Sue -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue
And no, nobody here is and will ever convince you to stop liking the series... like I said... CP is definitely a good write, but to me the creative side of his brain is mush.

lol, theres been a bunch of confusion about Mary-Sues on the forum this month *laughs*
yeah, the bit about the Elves and the whole "boat" thing got me... and the "living with nature instead of on it" is very similar, but personally i dont see Elves doing it any other way, their just too in tune with nature to be living on it like the humans.
one of the only really imaginative, not copied parts is the Ra'zac, about them riding their older parents or what ever, and when i think Brom started talking about the pits that they crawled out of or something, i got shivers... for a split second, then Eragon ruined it... by talking or something.

ooh..I loved the movie's representation of the Ra'zac. They were 10x scarier than the Nazgul. not that I ever was..lol..a man with a black cloak and hood!

Actually, in Tolkien's time, elves had been stereotyped as little people, so he brought back the tall beautiful elves we love. So really, CP did pretty much copy Tolkien's elves.

But not all general fantasy elves are short little people are they? they can be both.
besides........isnt using Tolkien-based Elves better than using a short little pointy-eared dwarf like creature? I dont care how Tolkien and Paolini's elves are similiar.

I totally agree with you, Haldir. CP's creative side is pathetic. Nonexistant.
My opinion of his plot is that he got it by combining LotR and Star Wars and adding a few lines.

^Hear hear! I wonder where else he took ideas from.
It would have been so much better if he just used his own mind to create his own story.. an original one. We would all like it if it were that way.

Aye... thank you.
