yeah, the idea for using words to create or handle magic has been around for a long time, so that bit is just a given, he was either going to do one of the three choices, or have no magic at all.

See, theres something he didnt copy... with some of u guys acting like he copied almost every word in the books, I wouldnt be suprised if u came up with an excuse of his magic is copied..

He did copy the magic idea, it just may or may not have been from The Earthsea Cycle.

But The Earthsea Cycle is the only other group of fantasy books that I've ever read that has true names, and it was published before Eragon. It also involves an Old Tongue/language/whatever that magic is 'controlled' by/through, too. Those two things make me awfully suspicious of where CP got his ideas from. If he hasn't read The Earthsea Cycle, of course, my ideas are moot, and he's deprived.

You guys act like if a charatcer's name in any book has like a "wen" at the end, its automatically copied from Arwen. like u guys said about the land Ardwen. Im reading a book, and theres a charatcer named "Tanwen" oh--the author copied Arwen!

and you know what? I was writing a story once and one of my charatcers' name was "Arneya" and you know what else? I havent even read Eragon before and had no idea there was a character named "Arya" but if I was like CP and got my story published, then you guys would say "Oh...she got Arneya's name from Arya!!" which wouldnt even be true!

you guys judge too fast and hard! maybe CP hadnt copied so much names as you think! what...so a name is similiar to Valinor, [Vailnor] so what?

you dont have full proof that CP just copied all the names from LOTR. like I said with my Arneya name, some of CP's names could have been like that.

I'd hate it if I published a book of my poems and ppl are saying "her poems are so dumb! gosh! she should never publish more poems again!!"!

No, we were not talking about the "wen" part. It was a common ending for many female Anglo Saxon names. "Ardwen" is "Arwen" with a "d" after the "ar". Oooo very creative.

Yeah he does get credit... from the fans! EVERY celebrity will have fans and haters; that's how life is. The man cannot please everyone, and he certainly does not please me. Only if you published a book of poems full of copied material, would I say that they are dumb and ridiculous.


Well... realise that not all of us have to like the book. And it does please some of us to pick his writing apart and find faults with it all... why wouldn't we? We could just sit here, say we hate the book for no apparent reason and look stupid... or we could sit here, say we hate the book, find reasons why we do and look plausible.
