After they discussed some technical matters with the king the company retired. Thranduil had given them comfortable rooms for themselves. They were all weary and ere long they fell fast asleep.

Elenriel sat on the bed in her chambers, facing Erebor. Her husband had been away for what seemed like several months now and she missed him terribly. She sighed once more, an uneasiness filling her with the deepening night. After their audience had ended, Thranduil had ordered that she meet with him at first light, and she could only guess what the king would say to her for her willful actions. She quickly shook her head as she banished such thoughts from her mind, her attention once again turning toward the dwarves. Elenriel glanced at the shadow eclipsing the mountain and wondered if they were too late. Why couldn't we have sent aid sooner? she thought bitterly as she lay down, a thousand "what-ifs" plaguing her mind. With that she drifted off into a restless slumber.

Raelyn was getting undressed and sliping into her nightgown that the king had sent for her. when she heard a knock at her door. she pulled on a robe and opened her door.
"your father has sent you a letter m'lady." said a messanger.
Raelyn took it and smiled and gave him a gold coin.
once the boy left she quickly opend the letter.
it read.

<i> dear beloved daughter.
i have heard that you reached mirkwood. are you safe? the dwarvs are in desprate need of help. get there as soon as you can. they have suffered again an attack from the enemy. be safe my child.</i>

Raelyn needed to show this letter to Airmelero. she ran out of her room and over to his which was across the hall and down a few rooms. she knocked on his door with the letter in her hand.

Elandiel did not try to sleep. Dressed still in her travel tunic, she slipped out into the night, wandering the palace and the grounds about it. She arrived at a great fountain before long and ran her hands through the waters, smiling slightly. She sat in the gardens for a long time, her thoughts on times past.

Airemelero was surprised to see Raelyn as he opened the door to see who knocked. "What d you wish?", he asked softly.

When Raelyn had told him what her father had sent her Airemelero was sunk in deep thought. At last he made up his mind.
"Go back to your chamber and sleep as muc as you can, Raelyn", he said "Tomorrow will be a hard day for all of us. We will set out as soon as the king has prepared the troops. We will be more of a help to the dwarves if we wait this few hours. Alone we can do little to aid them."

As the sun crept over the horizon, Elandiel realized that she had not slept. She stood and returned to the palace.

Raelyn sighed. "Airmelero, we must leave now! i don't think we can wait any longer. Trust me with this......for once" she said useing the puppy dog eyes.

"We will set out at once as a frontguard of the king's army. Let us hope that we go not astray in this matter."

He assembled the company in a short time and told them what had happened. After a short discussion they took leave of the king and departed.

Raelyn kept the letter from her father in her tunic near her heart. she missed her father so. she offten read the letter. it was almost like she could hear him saying the words. she was comforted by her father's voice.
she didn't know how long their voyage would be so she trotted over to Airmelero. " how long is this voyage?" she asked him trying to seem older and more mature. she knew he only thought of her as a child.
