So who's seen the musical? I've heard the London adaption is quite good. I've seen the Toronto adaption. The musical has been getting a lot of mixed reviews lately, but I loved the musical. I think it has heart in a different manner than the movies. Lord of the Rings is an epic story, so I can understand why some disagreed for the musical.
Please feel free to post your opinions on the musical.

I barely knew these existed. What are some of the song titles, for those who've actually seen it?

Just had a review for London's West End adaptation. I thought I might get tickets next time I'm there since it's showing through next march. I've heard it was really, really well done. Might be coming to America, it's so good.

i've read a few reviews of the london production - all agree that the set is incredible, but some don't seem convinced by the production as a whole.
in a way, lotr would lend itself well to the medium of the musical as tolkien wrote a heck of a lot of songs for the book, and it's so passionate that i'm sure you could write some wonderful lyrics based on it; but i don't believe it's possible to do justice to the book in only three hours of musical, and the idea of singing orcs makes me more than a little nervous. however, i have to admit i am intrigued. maybe if it runs long enough i'll go down and see it, but there are still shows much higher up on my list of priorities.

I heard their selling tickets through next March. If that's true, then I'm sure I'll make it one day.

I have an issue with all musicals from epics... you make something so grand and inspiring and all of a sudden someone's la-la-la-ing on stage and it seems such a mockery...

thats not at all how it is, since Tolkien did write LotR in such a lyrical/poetic way, it conveys very well into a musical, and the whole thing is not some stupid long song, its broken up into important bits, and their songs that truly capture the books. They use a lot of original songs, and parts of orgina songs and poems, and their is Elvish etc. So it's nice.
The One thing i really liked were the Black Riders on their horses, and the Witch King/Mouth of Sauron mix, that was really neat. ooh, and the Ents were cool too.

I saw the Toronto musical, and I liked it well enough. The black riders, Mt. Doom, Ents, Mouth of Sauron, and all were really well done for a play. (Nothing compared to the movies, but how could they be!?! )
I think, though, that they focused too much on those things, and ignored much of the characters. Eowyn was nothing, I couldn't help wondering why she was there at all! You didn't even get too see much of the Hobbit's personalties, but I guess you can only do so much in 2 (or so) hours. Still...

The musical part was the odd thing, IMO. To have Galadreil singing a sond about*high pitched voice* Lothloreinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, is werid. Can you imagine? Then they had Arwen and Aragorn singing together (something strange about "oh, we haven't sung together in a long time", and such). The only song I enjoied completely was the Road Goes Ever On and On one. The one in Bree was okay.
Overall, I liked it. Worth the $20!

So, can someone tell me what's going on in the musical??... I haven't seen it...
It's all the actors singing instead of talking?... and the actors who play,do they look like the ones in the movie?
And what songs do they sing?? (sorry for my lot of "ands"!!)

Sadly I've never seen any LotR musical. I'd love to see one though, because I can imagine LotR being a musical because of all the poetry and songs Tolkien wrote.. but not all scenes would fit into a musical of course. But still I'd like to see a musical version..

I saw thw Toronto one, it was okay. It was a bit wierd with the songs, but not so bad. Nothing compared with the movies. You didn't get to see much of their personalities.
Adanedhel, they don't sing the whole time, just at some parts. The actors don't really look like the ones in the movie, but I wasn't very close to the stage, so it didn't bother me. They sing The road Goes Ever On and On, Aragorn and Arwen sing some songs together, and they sing a song at Bree.

The musical is very good, of course I didn't go in skeptical, but I came out wonderfully amazed. You have to remember here, that they WERE NOT TRYING TO CAPTURE THE MOVIES. They were capturing the books. The characters were different in the books compared to the movies. if you want to see the Musical, brush everything that you know about the movies out of your head for three hours, and think of nothing but the books. That is what they are based on, and that is what they delivered.
So dont ask if they look anything like the movie actors, or if it has anything to do with the movie, because it doesnt. The musical is based off the books, and if you havent read them and you do go into the musical, you will be dissapointed, because they are not based on the movies.
Here:
"The Musical is based on the books, they were not trying to capture the movies, they were trying to capture the books."
If you have any more questions on wether or not it compared to the movies, dont ask, because it doesnt.
