Well, you don't see me shipping ChristinexPhantom. I agree that she has a great personality, I think I can relate to her most out of any of the characters. Or, I feel that I would act a lot like she does given the circumstances. One of my favorite little moments in the movie is when she finds the passage behind Christine's mirror and is looking around. Meg doesn't get much screen time so it was nice to see what she was thinking and going through, not knowing what else was going on around her.

Er...that's what I always assumed canon meant. *shrugs* I'm not an expert on fandom-related terms...

Yes, JF. Canon = there is evidence of.
Fanon = no evidence, fandom-imagined.
Phantom/Christine ---- Raoul/Christine = canon.
Phantom/Meg = fanon.

Oooh, right. Thanks for that Kit.
I think Mdm. Giry and the Phantom might have worked, but she looks way older than him (we could say the stress of her job caused that) and really they are probably only a few years apart.

I don't think Madame Giry was.... attractive enough for him, I guess. He wanted the improbable, a beautiful woman to love a hideous man.
I just realized something. xD While listening to the soundtrack at night, Meg grew up as "Madame Giry" which meant she never married---did she stay in the Opera all her life until it got shut down?

Yes, I guess you are right there.
Hmm... is Madame not used when a woman is married? Because if Meg becomes Madame Giry, does that not suggest that her mother was not married?

Well, would she not her husband's name if she were married? If Meg Giry kept her name all her life---would that not mean that she never married? Not quite sure the details of the titles in French but... [shrug]

Yeah, I did notice that Meg has her maiden name in the flash-forwards. I assumed that was solely so that we would recognize it was her. Whether she was married and widowed, or she simply wanted to keep her maiden name after marriage, or she loved and lost...I think that's up to the fans.

Quote: Madam or ma'am is a title for a woman. It is derived from the French madame, the equivalent of Mrs. or Ms., and literally signifying "my lady." The plural of madam in this sense is mesdames. The French madame is in turn derived from the ancient Latin mea domina meaning honored mistress of the home Quote: Mademoiselle, the French-language equivalent of Miss; ma "my" + demoiselle "little lady"
Perhaps Meg just kept the family name. Perhaps after the incidents depicted in the film, the name of Giry became famous in the ballet world, and although Meg married she kept her mother's name. Like actors usually keep their stage names even if they are married.

^Ah...yes, that makes sense, thank you for posting those titles. I like that explanation...I would hate to think Meg ended up alone.

 Poor, poor Raoul.
But...the times at the bottom of the screen, they sort of gave away that it was 40-something years later. Mdme. Giry would have been quite well preserved.
