Awww, poor Raoul. Curse his make-up artist.

No one, well, the girls don't---we're too busy oogling the handsome onscreen leading men.

What are you talking about, JF. You were swooning Phanny the entire time.

Not the first time I saw POTO. I had been listening a lot to the original soundtrack, and I knew Michael Crawford from other things, so I was absolutely sceptical about the film. On the whole, it was good, but I didn't like Gerard Butler's singing voice and even Masquerade failed to inspire me. I finished the film and thought that was that.
Then a few months later, I found this site with lots of different soundtracks you could listen to online, and I found POTO. I decided to listen to it... and listen to it.... and listen to it, again and again. Eventually it got to the point where I had to watch the film again, so we rented it again, I watched it and fell in love.
It's a perfect example of why if you saw a film once, and liked it (when you surely should have loved it) it is always worth watching it again. It could simply have been on the day you weren't in the mood for a long musical, or you were in a bad mood and didn't enjoy it the way you should.

I completely agree with JF.
And that's all I have to say...
...
No, I'm kidding. I happen to watch movies I just "like" all the time. I just "liked" FotR when it came out, and didn't really get into the movies until RotK. So, overall, I won't make that mistake again.

Well, I'm almost always in a mood for a musical so--- I guess I can't really understand, lol. When I first saw it though, I was extremely turned off by the Phantom's voice... because it was... well, it was something---but when I re-watch it and re-watch it, I learn to make excuses because in some moments, he's fine---and besides, Gerard Butler's a good actor.

I love Gerry's voice. I think he's fantastic. His voice is my favorite in the whole movie. I just think it has a really great sound to it. I'm not sure why.
Okay, before I ramble anymore, I'd like to ask if I may join this little club. I love the Phantom of the Opera...and Gerry.
Wait, did I already join this before? Or was that something else? I can't remember! If I did, I'm asking again.

Well, people change their name often and there's confusion---so did you have any other aliases?

Hey! I joined this club like, two years ago.
Personally, I love Gerry's voice! It's so different from Michael Crawford, who's also amazing, but Gerry's voice has a lot of personality and really emphasizes that difference between the Phantom and Raoul.

I used to be DarkPalantir.
I agree with with Taurquende! I don't really like Raoul's voice, though. I don't know why.

You know, I had actually seen one of the earlier Phantoms (can't remember which), and in it, Raoul's voice was deep and the Phantom's was a lot higher, so I was shocked to hear it the other way around when I saw the new one...

It might have been that. It probably was, actually. The original broadway version.

Johnny's Fan wrote: I think inthe original stage musical the Phantom sang in a much higher voice and Raoul much deeper. Listening to some of the songs I have, Michael Crawford does have a highr singing voice, and the gonk who plays Raoul (and who is absolutely useless) has a deeper voice.
I agree, the person who sang Raoul just didn't pull it off.
They're both in the same singing range, but Michael's voice is a lot "brighter" and he puts a lot of emotional power behind it. Raoul (I think his name is Cliff?) sings a lot gentler but he puts weird accents on certain notes and his phrasing is really off. And when he's suppose to be intense, it sounds so fake and forced.
I also feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like Sarah Brightman's voice. Honestly, though it's wonderful in the the lower range the middle-upper range is terrible in my opinion! It just sounds so squeaky and awful, and that's the part written especially for her. I thought that Emmy Rossum did a much better job in the movie.
