I must say, I really like Emmy Rossum's portrayal the best of all the PotO's.

Couldn't agree with you more! Actually, ALW had been waiting a long time for the "perfect Christine" to come along before he would produce the movie. I'm still in amazement that she was only sixteen! It's amazing that she could sing so well at 16 and also makes her even more perfect for the role as Christine was 16 in the book.
So now I'm a die-hard Emmy fan. Her first album is coming out this October, if anyone's interested.

Which Raoul are we discussing? The Broadway, or the newest one?
I liked Raoul in the newest movie. He's kind of the underdog, because both Emmy and Gerard can sing him under the table. I just felt bad for him.

We were talking about the stage Roaul.
Yeah, I kinda agree with you there, but on the whole he was a very good Raoul, who actually had character and who you could like. His singing voice wasn't as... loud? as the Phantom's so maybe that's why we are more blown away by Phanny's voice.

No, Gerard just has an insane voice that immediately grabs ahold of you, and he really has the sinister side that gives you chills.
Patrick has a really nice, soothing voice, but it just doesn't get you in the same way.
The word that comes to mind with Emmy and Gerard (when it comes to their singing, anyway) is haunting. And Patrick just doesn't have that factor.

That's very true, but then again he really isn't haunted is he? He has no cool lines like...
Twisted every way what answer can I give? Am I to risk my life for the chance to live? Can I betray the man who once inpsired my voice? Do I become his prey? Do I have any choice? .....

Dude, you are not the only one in the world that doesn't like her voice, I don't either. I think her voice sounds almost harsh when she starts hitting those high notes, and the way she pronouces some of the words.... if you could over-act with singing, then that's what she does. I agree, Emmy was much more better, she had a much sweeter voice, and could actually hit the high notes without sounding like an alley cat that's had it's tail run over.
Yeah, I agree with you about Raoul dude. It does sound really voiced and not natural. The bit where he is knocking on Christine's door and asking whose voice it is he can hear... bleaurgh.... it just sounds.... hammy.
Oooh, she is bringing out an album.... ...
Yes! Finally! Honestly, I don't know why she's so famous when she sings like that.
Oh gosh! I know! And in the graveyard scene. Michael is singing "Wandering Child" just heartbreakingly and then he comes in...
She is. It's a pop album, but she wrote all the lyrics and co-wrote the songs. There's a preview available on iTunes, if you're interested.
Gerry's voice actually got a lot of critism and people didn't think a former rocksinger should sing it. I don't think that's the case, because I thought he did a fantastic job and I absolutely fell in love with him. Really, really, in love.
I think they purposely choice Patrick because he didn't have as haunting a voice. Raoul is suppose to be very soft and sensitive and his voice reflected that.

Oh my gosh, I really need to get that special edition DVD. I can't believe I forgot about it. *smacks head*
I completely agree about Raoul vs. Phantom though. The Phantom just has such an amazing, powerful voice.

You know, there should have been a singing contest between Rauol and the Phantom for Christine and she got to pick the winner...wonder who would win? Oh and here's a Phantom of the Opera song by Nightwish if anyone wants to see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yeD6IWh_OI

Oh, I have the link to that song (No One Would Listen) on a site, if anyone wants to see it.
I wasn't really a big fan of it, actually, I see why they cut it. I wasn't a big fan of the melody, really, it's not Gerard's fault.

Well, it's on the 2nd disc, under "Deleted Scene - No One Would Listen"
Go watch it! It's absolutely gorgeous! (Though maybe bring along some tissues. )
