I found out the books by C.S. Lewis that I am to read... the first book I think is called Perenda or something like that. My mom read it and said I would like it. So it's most likely that I might read the Sword of Shanara series by Terry Brooks instead. Ah, the freedom of homeschooling! lol!

Um, Perelandra is the second of a trilogy...does your mom know that?

Yeah... That's just the only one I somewhat remembered the name of. She's read all three and says it's not the kind of book I'd get into.

I liked them. The last one, whatever it was called, wasn't as good, but I liked the first two a lot.

I'm about to start into Beowulf as part of my grade 11 study of British Literature. I'm hoping I'll find it engaging :)

The list of all I'll be studying for English Lit includes - "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Macbeth", "The Poisonwood Bible", "The Catcher in the Rye", and "East of Eden" are among a few of them.

i love love love love love beowulf. it got me completely hooked when i was seven, and it's practically the reason i'm now studying english at university. i really hope you love it as much as i do.

in fact, i'll be studying beowulf in the second semester of the coming academic year, and as part of that module i'll learn basic anglo-saxon. i've been waiting twelve years for this, and i absolutely cannot wait.

next semester, i'll be studying piers plowman, sir gawain and the green knight and selected chaucer for a module on the medieval renascance; and the poetic edda and the saga of the volsungs for a module on old norse mythology (for which i'll learn old norse). i'm also taking a module about the development of the english language, for which my main text is a history of english: a sociolinguistic approach.

as you may be able to guess, i'm really interested in medieval literature and i'm trying to specialise in it as much as possible.

i am sooo jealous of that reading list - i never got a reading list that good when i was at school. macbeth is my second favourite play to read, i loved the poisonwood bible and the catcher in the rye, and one flew over the cuckoo's nest is top of my list of books to read - it sounds fascinating.

It seems like I need to read Beowulf since you all talk so much about it. I have never heard about it except from here, and I assume it's a bit difficult to be reading on my own, so I hope some of you want to discuss it with me if I eventually get to read it.
Macbeth is a play I have been wanting to read for a long time. I really hope I can get time to read it soon.

And concerning Norse mythology. Let me know if you need any help or want to discuss! :-)

Lol. :P I was rather excited myself when I first looked at it. I've heard "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is extremely good. I can't wait to get started on it! :)

Lol--last year we read through Macbeth and 'studied' it, etc., though there were only three of us 'studying it' with my mom, but there are a lot more than three parts, so we tried it with a whole ton of different accents. It's really funny reading the characters with a Southern-ish accent. :P

Okay, that was random. Anyway, my assigned 'reading list' for this year is over a hundred (probably over 150) books, so I'm not even going to get close to finishing it.
