Morwen grabbed some papers and sat down to read:
"ærende Erkenhelme: Theoden: (Message to Erkenhelme: from Theoden:)
Geniman bæc lagustream Entwash æt wilde-ælde ac yrch. Eored Guðbill ac Frecne: na milts (take back river Entwash from wild men and orcs. Eoreds Sword and Daring: no mercy.)"
"It is a missive," she said, thinking out loud. "This is a military missive from Theoden to Erkenhelme about the battle at the Entwash, before I was born. My father must have been in his twenties when he wrote this..." Finding more and more documents of the same nature, she came to a conclusion. "My father was in military communications and intelligence. He was a spy, by all accounts. I don't understand..."

Seeing Deawen's reactions, she said slightly irritably, "What?"

By the time the sun had come up, the three had sifted through most of the documents. Her father had been educated by the King's teachers, mainly in reading and writing, with some military strategy. He had then been employed to write relay messages from the king to his generals, and vice versa. The sword showed his unusual rank. The knife had been a gift from the king after Morwen's father had helped the Rohirrim win a particularly important battle. Once he had gotten married, he retired and went into hiding in the small hamlet in the Westfold. After the combined death of Morwen's mother and later her brother, he started journeying, sending small bits of correspondace to the king as he gathered intelligence. He had died of a poisoned arrow as he wrode, while Morwen had been away. Everything made sense now, and Morwen felt at peace. "Well. Breakfast, anyone?" she said brightly.

Estel leaned back in the chair and sighed.
"Breakfast sounds nice."
As they prepared it (Estel decided it was better to not interfer... she'd burn something...) she thought long and hard.
"I knew your father, Deawen." She said then, after minutes of silence.“I helped him once… long ago. We where tracking someone… and then we where ambushed. He was further ahead, while I was holding the horses. He came back and rescued me.â€

Composing herself with her back to the others, Morwen sliced the potatoes she had found growing out in the deserted plot of land. She tossed them onto a pan with some lard and listened to them sizzle. "Fry, my pretties, Fry!" (thankyou, Artinwe!) she cackled in a mock-maniacal voice. Laughing at her own joke, she threw in some salt and bacon strips. The aroma made her mouth water. Handing the long wooden fork to Deawen, she said, "DON'T LET THOSE BURN!" Deawen gave her an injured look. She to the shuttered windows and let the cool morning air rush in to take out the musty smell of disuse and time, and let the glorious sunshine pour in. She went then to her father and brothers rooms and opened those windows, respectively. She did the same to her room and the door. She leaned out the window and looked at the familiar scenery, happy to be home.

Deawen stirred the mixture with skill the sizzleing meat and potatoes started to brown she flipped and stirred and waited for Morwen to come back.

Morwen walked back over and observed over Deawen's shoulder. "Alright, they are done. Lets us eat." She pulled out several thin wooden boards and three tankards. "All I have is apple cider. It is rather old, so it might have fermented and gone bubbly." She poured herself some from the jar, and waited to see who else might risk it.

Estel looked away. They wouldnt understand. They would have to experiance what she did in order to understand. Perking up, she smiled.
"Shall I go fetch Shadow, your brother and your father for breakfast?"
