Silverleaf pulled up a chair and sat down again. She rested her elbows on the table, gazing into the distance. The light from the day was fading slowly. The long, soft grey sleeves of her dress trailed past her knees and she sang quietly under her breath the Lay of Luthien.

She nodded and quirked a scarred brow finally sitting up. Her hood fell from her head as she did so finally revealing her face which was decorated with angry, red gashes on the right side. The left faired better holding only her one thin scar that made its path from her brow to her lip. She let out a bark like laugh before saying, "Ah, how you were able to capture a good moment is beyond me. I must have been drunk. I am quite certain I would not have agreed to a portait otherwise." She shrugged, bringing her brown cloak closer about her shoulders and then ran a hand through the top of her braided hair, possibly an attempt to straighten it.

Silverleaf's singing faded away as she turned her head towards Maethoriel. She had been practising for later tonight; the elves always expected her to sing, whatever her mood. They were a strange folk; they wanted to hear Gondorian songs. She always told them that they did not compare to the songs of the elves, but that was only a half-truth. She did not want to remind herself of home, it was an area of her life that she tried not to think of.
The red marks on Maethoriel's face made Silverleaf's eyes widen slightly. She shook her head then quickly turned her gaze away, not wanting to offend the woman. Her gaze turned instead to the floor.

Alric shoved the dirk into his boot and rummaged in his pouch. Then, he came up with a handful of browned leaves. With these, he set a kettle of boiling awter, and brewed a tea. He let the black liquid steep for a while, then handed a mug to Maethoriel.
"Here. Best drink it soon, it loses it's potency once it cools. It's a Rohirric remedy used to cure the after-effects of alcohol," he said, sitting back down. "It's useless with sweetener, so don't add honey to it," he warned.

Eruraina had to smile.
"Ah, but one moment is long enough for me to sketch a picture. Parcial photographic memory helps," she said, tapping her pencil on her temple. "I can see something once and later draw it almost exactly as I saw it. The mind is very interesting like that."
"The drink won't help her," she informed Alric. "Watch her go get another jug of ale when she's done with that. Unless she's changed since I last met her."

Alric raised his eyebrows and shrugged "It'll at least remove the headache" he said, pouring himself a mug.

"Ah, but you forget one little detail. She's half-elf. Elves don't really get head aches from drinking, though they may get a little loopy," Eruraina commented with a soft smile, before returning to her sketch. By now if you looked closely at it, you could see that it was the Lonely Mountain in the distance, if you knew that area...

Alric sighed and sat back in his chair "Well, it's always a pleasure to meet a half elf. What house are you from? Elrond's? Or are you of another, for Doir's's and Earendil's have been merged."

"I am from another indeed, The Lord Elrond and I may have a connection long past. Though, neither he nor I would truly want to know for sure." Half of her mouth opened in a smile, the other remained clamped on her pipe. "Alas, we have no ale to truly remedy this headache. Only a good draught of the dwarves' ale has proven to knock out the pain of blades, but I have run out of my stock." Her hand flew to her forhead in an overdramatic gesture of despair. "Perhaps I shall renew my store when I visit Grair." She took the mug and chuckled, "My headache is more due to the scratches on my head than the wine. Although I shall take it, it may yet work."

The elves started to troop into the hall, a buzz of conversation about them. They were all dressed in white or grey, some soft green, gems and silver sparkling at throats, foreheads. Silverleaf looked up again. She knew most of them. She rose from her seat to greet them.
She looked in the crowd for Elrond; he was not there yet. He always took his time. Besides, he had a lot of work to do. Slowly the seats in the hall were all filled, the walls echoed with laughter and talk.
One elf guided Silverleaf to a seat and sat oppisite her. "Who are those three?" she enquired, nodding her head slightly to Alric, Maethoriel and Eruraina with a smile.
"Visitors," Silverleaf replied. "Come to see Elrond. I have not spoken with them much but they seem quite pleasant."
"Ah, but that is you all over," the elf continued, "you do not speak much at all to anyone."
Silverleaf's smile grew strained and she looked up as servants started to bring in jugs of wine and glasses.

Eruraina quickly finnished the base of her sketch when the elves started coming in. She put book and charcoal pencil away, and stood.
"Eruraina?" the voice came from behind her and she turned to see an old friend.
"Aren? Hey, how are you?" Eruraina asked the older male elf thast stood before her.
"Lonely. Tulie is in Lothlorien, so I'm here without my love," he said with a grin. "And look at you. It's been almost an age since I've seen you. You've grown alot."
"And you haven't grown at all," Eruraina luaghed back.
"Yeah yeah. So hows Olinos?" Aren asked her.
"Um... he died a few years ago," she replied.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't say sorry, it wasn't your fault."
"So hows Roina?"
"I don't know, I haven't heard from her in awhile. Last time I had news of her, she was going to the Blue Mountains," Eruraina said. "Lets take a seat. The singing and story telling is starting."

The elves started to quieten down. Several of them were looking towards Silverleaf, as they did every night.
"Come now, Silverleaf, we wish to hear but one mortal song tonight," one of them said with a sly smile. "You refuse us every evening, it is beginning to get tiresome."
"Yes, a song!" another declared. Silverleaf smiled resignedly.
"I know not many songs," she said, weighing her words carefully, "but I have a few. They are quite different to the songs of the elves, but..."
"We will hear no more from you, unless it comes in song form!" another elf declared. They were a persistent folk, and Silverleaf was both strange and intruiging to them. Most humans were not so reserved.
Silverleaf rose from her seat. "I shall sing one song for you tonight, and one only," she warned them. Taking a deep breath, she began with a song quite well-known in Gondor, that she had always liked.
"When the cold of Winter comes Starless night will cover day In the veiling of the sun We will walk in bitter rain But in dreams I still hear your name And in dreams We will meet again When the seas and mountains fall And we come, to end of days In the dark I hear a call Calling me there I will go there And back again."
She bowed her head when she finished, there was a hush in the room. The elves clapped delightedly.
(Sorry... couldn't resist using a song from the LOTR soundtrack... )

Eruraina smiled at Silverleaf's song. It was very familiar to her. When she finnished and the clapping ceased, she stepped forward.
"I shall take my turn now. Some might know this song, others not. But either way, it is a song written by a close friend of mine," she said, and cleared her throat. After a moment she started singing. First in the elvish tounge, then she repeated the song in the common tounge.
Sing all ye joyfull, now sing all together! The wind's in the tree-top, the wind's in the heather; The stars are in blossom, the moon is in flower, And bright are the windows of Night in her tower.
Dance all ye joyful, now dance all together! Soft is the grass, and let foot be like feather! The river is silver, the shadows are fleeting; Merry is May-time, and merry our meetings.
Sing we now softly, and dreams let us weave him! Wind him in slumber and there let us leave him! The wanderer sleepeth. Now soft be his pillow! Lullaby! Lullaby! Alder and willow! Sigh no more Pine, till the wind of the morn! Fall moon! Dark be the land! Hush! Hush! Oak, Ash, and Thorn! Hushed be all water, till dawn is at hand!
With that she finnished, and sat down, those who recognized the song luaghed, while the rest clapped...

Silverleaf had taken her seat again, clasping her hands on her lap. Tonight would be a night of non-stop songs, stories and laughter. The elves would want her to be a part of it, they always did. She was something new to them, like a book they wanted to read, or a language that she wanted to learn. She clapped along with the others at Eruraina's song.

Maethoriel's feet were unceromoniously pushed aside and she was soundly smacked on her injured head, she groaned. She was about to give the offender a taste of her sharp wit when a familiar gruff voice chastised, "Lassie, you would do well to watch yourself better in a fight. I can not always be looking after you." The half-Elf gave a grin as she looked over at a red bearded dwarf now occupying the spot next to her and uncharacteristically gave a delighted laugh and hugged him. "Grair!" The dwarf was less than delighted with the public display of affection, despite his delight at seeing his friend. "Aye, tis good to see you as well. Thought you were dead." Maethoriel chuckled and regained her composure, "Would not be the first time you thought me so."
(I can't rp straight laced elves, so I stuck to my dwarves. I'll just say he came with the dwarf company that went to Rivendell with Gloin and Gimli. ^_^)

(ooh, so gloin and gimli would be there? if other members of the fellowship arrive... i shall play boromir... for obvious reasons, teehee.)
The elves soon moved from singing to stories.
"Has anyone got any stories to tell?" asked one elf, looking around the now-quiet room. The elves all looked round at each other. Silverleaf prayed she wouldn't be chosen again, and she was successful. The elves chose someone to tell a tale about Lothlorien.
