The banners I am taking about are like the ones you have. There are a lot of people that are wanting to have a "memory" banner.

Telpeath - I'm not 100% certain what all is already planned for writing, but it could be neat to maybe have some sort of collectively-written story. Not like an RPG (in which everyone plays just one or two characters), but something in which people would write, say, a paragraph at a time. Or 100 words. Whatever suits your fancy, really. The theme could be something like "what happens when the camera isn't rolling", or something fun and behind-the-scenes like that. Or you (or whoever runs the writing) could also maybe work with the contest people to have an "untold stories" fanfic contest or something. I dunno. I'm pretty much just throwing out ideas now. There are definite possibilities, though. I'd be happy to maybe co-manage with you, if you're interested, and we could maybe bounce ideas off of each other.
Also, in reference to the extra scavenger hunt category, what do y'all think should be included in that? Just commentary stuff, or should I put in documentary and making-of info as well? And does anyone have any thoughts/comments on improvements that could be made this year in terms of how it's all run? (Not saying that there are any - I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions.)

I'm not here to be helpful, because I pretty much can't be since I'm not talented and I'm going to be gone at random weeks all summer. I just wanted to say that all of the siggies with the quotes from behind the scenes stuff... pretty much made me pee my pants. I love them. This is a brill idea guys. I hope it goes well.

Besides you and Telepeath, PotR, there has been no preparation on the writing. It just has been sitting there, lonely, and wanting to be talked about. However, I love both of those ideas!
For the Scavenger Hunt, I think you probably could have two parts to the Scavenger Hunt: Books and Behind the Scenes. Then, Behind the Scenes will be broken up into Commentaries and Making Of.
Johnny's Fan wrote: I think some contests will only be really one round, so I'm not sure if starting them all on the 9th is a good idea. BUT as the colourization contest is going to be an on-going thing, that makes a lot of sense starting it at the beginning. I'm still not sure when I'll be starting the quiz smeag, but it will probably be nearer the end of July than before. I think finishing all this mid-August sounds very good.
I just saw this, and I forgot to answer. JF, what my point of view in the contest realm is that all of the one-round contests will be combined into a big RotR:BtM themed contest, just so they won't be as scattered.

Oh okay. I'll have to think about what memory I'd want. There's very few with Craig Parker.

So...I'm confused...why are we having a quiz contest thing AND a Scavenger Hunt? I mean, they seem like basically the same thing, so we don't really need two, do we? Especially with all the other contests going on? I mean, it's kind of a tradition that the person who won the Official Tolkien Scholar title then runs the Hunt to see who gets the title again, so...I dunno, the whole quiz thing seems a bit superfluous...? I could just have missed something, though, so if they are different, my bad. I was just kinda wondering

That is a very good point, Meld. I think we all probably skipped right over it, but we need to see what everyone else thinks. If we are able to clearly define each, we can do both, but that may be a bit hard.

I could always limit the bonus category to the commentaries, and JF's contest could be more focused on the making-of stuff. Or vice-versa, I suppose, though part of the point of the scavenger hunt is being able to find the info in the books/films. I'm pretty flexible, beyond the traditional books and movies categories.

Aha. Star mention not being here the entire summer. After my finals are over (on the 17th) I'll be able to help around a little each day, until about mid-July where Im off to Europe. Does this pose as a problem?

Just help when you can. There are so many volunteering, we should definetly have enough for the whole summer.

Erm... the quiz will be taking place in the contest section.... it will only be about things that can be found in the documentaries, not the books or the films themselves. The top 5 people (depending on how many will enter) will all be receiving awards and everyone who owns the EE's can join in. You don't need to be an expert to answer the questions, you just either already have a good knowledge of them, or you watch them, which is really what it intends to do, as getting people to remember all the fun stuff found on the EE features is essentially what this is all about. I'm not quite sure why this would be deemed "superfluous"? It's not like I'm dishing out Tolkien Scholar awards or taking anything away from PotR. It's a completely different thing as far as I can see. But then again I could be wrong.
