I'd recommend God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. It took a while to get into but once I did I was reading till 3 in the morning. It's set in India and is amazing.
Also the Tales of the Otori books by Lian Hearn (which I'm rereading at the moment) are amazing. They're set in Japan years ago and kind of fantasyish.

"Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is amazing. Really anything by Neil Gaiman. But this one is definitely a must read, it's hilarious.

hm, sorry i was so vague about what i like. Mostly i read fantasy stuff like Harry Potter, Twilight series, etc. But i am trying to read new genres and such. I am 17 (almost 18) so i can handle a lot of things. I like Classics, Jane Austen is really good and so is Alice in Wonderland. I am reading Sherlock Holmes at the moment
So really, recommend anything, i am not stuck in one particular mindset or anything :]

I read the Host! I was disappointed in the ending though

I just stayed up all night reading The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. You could try that, though it's a totally different genre from Twilight, etc.

Well, then I'd suggest "The Dresden Files" series by Jim Butcher. It's absolutely brilliant. I think you might like it.
Also, I read a lot of murder mysteries and Agatha Christie is an author I practically worship. So anything by her. "And Then There Were None" is just amazing.
And Tony Hillerman's Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn murder mysteries are great.

I adore Agatha Christie's books. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Cards on the Table (I believe it's that one) are good too. Also:
DEATH GATE CYCLE. This series needs more fans. It's AMAZING. Seven books, in order:
Dragon Wing
Elven Star
Fire Sea
Serpent Mage
Hand of Chaos
Into the Labyrinth
The Seventh Gate
And if you've never read Wheel of Time, get hooked on those too.

The Novels of Del and Tiger by Jennifer Roberson. Excellent reading, a tad more mature than your average fantasy, but the two main characters are more real than some people in real life and I fell in love with Tiger instantly.

It's James Patterson, actually. Just FYI.
Ah...let's see... Airborn and its sequel Skybreaker are really good, they're by Kenneth Oppel. Also Inkheart and Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. Oh, and if you like anthropomorphic animals then I recommend a series called Warriors by Erin Hunter, which is about feral cats. Start with the first series ( Into the Wild) is the first book) because it's definitely the best...the subsequent series lag a little as far as the action goes.

Hmm. If you like anything related to the 2nd World War, I would suggest B for Buster by Iain Lawrence. It's about a 17-year-old, 'Kak', who lies about his age to get into the Air Force (presumably one of the Commonwealth), and has to dal with the trauma of flying combat missions over Germany in a Halifax Bomber, and possibly branded LMF(Lacking of Moral Fibre). It's actually quite good.

Louise Rennison. I love those books. Definately something to make you laugh. Infinitely seconded.
I have a rather, urm, long library. and I need way more.
I love The Black Magician trilogy. I didn't get it long ago, but the plotlines kept me hooked. Thats The Magicians' Guild, [i[The Novice[/i], and The High Lord, by Trudi Canavan.
Urm.. teh His Dark Materials trilogy was AWESOME. I do love it. *rereads*
I also quite liked the Wee Free Men, A Hat Full Of Sky and Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett. Made me smile.
A couple of years ago I read Holes by Louis Sachar - that was quite good, but a little short if I remember correctly. o.0
Good story though.
A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgeson Burnett - a beautiful book. I love Sara(main char) and since I got the book I've been rereading it every few months. I felt it, which is kinda unlike me in books. Deffo recommendable.
I've also read The Sword of Shannara(Terry Brooks). It was good, and I love the plot, but I did find it a little hard to get into. o.0 I've started the second one, and am endeavouring to finish it within this millenium. I have a busy life, considering...
Ah. I shall update if I can find any more of my books to bore you with.

I cannot second that series enough! I am *obsessed* with it!!!
Anything by Robert Heinlein is spectacular if you are interested in sci-fi, and i can recommend oodles more if i had the time.

Found the time... LOL
Janette Oke is really good, if you are ok with Christianity threaded throughout a book, and C.S. Lewis is really good too. He has written The Screwtape Letters and Perelandria, Out the the Silent Planet, and That Hideous Strength as well as the classic Chronicles of Narnia. Lloyd Alexander wrote the Chronicles of Prydain (I highly recommend), and if you like Christian fiction, Melody Carlson is ah- mazzing. I especially like her Carter House Girls series. It starts with Mixed Bags, its sequel is Stealing Bradford and it continues with names like Viva Vermont!, Lost in Las Vegas, and New York Debut (i think that's the right order).
Hope my recommendations helped, and I'll be back with more later!
Again, I very highly recommend the Maximum Ride series. It's AWESOME! lol
