Where are all the Tamera Pierce fans? I love her books. They are sooooo awesome! She has a really fun writing style, and all her characters are so, I don't really have the word to describe it, but they are cool!

I love her books too :) They're great fun and very good for rereading.

My favourite ones are the ones about Kel best because I think she's the most realistic charcter.

I like the ones about Daine the best, I think it's cuz I'm an animal sort of person too. Then Kel, then Alanna, then those Circle books.

I love all her Tortal books. The Circle ones are really good, but definatly the tortal ones.
I don't know which of those I like the best. I like Diane, cuz I'm an animal person. Allana was good to, she was a really strong character. I like kel, the books were just so well written. If I had to chose a favorite book from Tamera Poierce, it would most definatly be Lady Knight.
The Characters there are so belivable. They arn't prissy girls who love hair and make up, but they arn't these almost godlike warrior women (i've read a few books with godlike worrior women, and it bugs me)
They are not all warrior. They like to dress up, and they have to deal with the problems of "feminine problems" I have never read anything else where that is mentioned.

I think her books are cool :) The Alianne books were an interesting departure from the other Tortall ones! I've liked all of them so far, but I've been a little miffed/disgusted when all the characters start climbing into bed with each other (ok, the Alanna ones were the absolute worst with that. I liked Jonathan until he went for what's-her-name, erg, I forget...the one in league with Duke Roger, but I forget her name).

But anyway...*finishes rant*

I've read the Alanna books, The Immortals, Circle of Mgaic and Protector of the Small so far. I quite like them. :)
I found the Alanna books the most addictive. (I went to several libraries in one day in search for one of them...) While that was great, I sort of became annoyed at them because all I could do while I was reading them was come home and read. I couldn't put them down - it wasn't any use trying to think about or do something else! The others weren't as bad in that regard. (Thankfully! I tend to resent books that leave me feeling like my emotions were caught up in the book and spat out again at the end....)
I really enjoyed the Immortals :) ... though not so much the second one. Protector of the Small - Lady Knight was my favourite and the only one I really really got into, though I liked the others. The Circle of Magic was good... had some interesting ideas. It had a very different feel to the others, that wasn't just due to the different setting.

Arwen... I agree with your point about characters sleeping with each other. It could have been worse, though! I could sort of understand Alanna/Jon's relationship - but Liam? What the heck was going on there? :annoyed2:

mmm. Agreed. I dont really get his relevance. He just didnt fit. I mean, one minute alanna is apparently scared of love, the next shes sleeping with characters that have only just been introduce. :confused2:

But I love her books in general. Like Eledhwen I like the Daine ones best. Although I still cant figure out how to say her name. :P But that doesnt matter! ;)

Her name was Delia, right? The one I called what's-her-name...heheh, anyway...

Yeah, Liam came out of nowhere and didn't do a lot of further the story besides add yet another love interest. But I still think that if they made a film adaptation of it, Ewan McGregor would be good in the role 8)

hmmm, not thats an idea.
*adds him to long list of must-be-cast*

Viggo would be good as Numair, dont you think?
And I heard that the reason it hasnt been made into a film yet is because of an issue with character rights. Because there are so many books that include characters from others, the same company would have to do all the movies, or something. Or have different actors for the roles each time.

Anyways... one of my friends once met Tamora Pierce.... she won a competition or something... I didnt hear much about it, cause I only speak to her a couple of times a year. She moved to a private school when I was in grade 5. Stupid Tintern stealing all the good friends...

Last I heard about movies, it was more the expense of the special effects required for fantasy... and the whole would it be worth the money/ debate that was sort of standing in the way making them into films. Or that was what it sounded like. Certainly, only the Alanna books' film rights have been sold.

I don't think the characters thing would be too much of an issue... because when some characters reappear, they are a lot older, anyway - and betwen that and the wardrobe/make-up department, even if it was a different actor, they could still probably be made to pass. Though the same people would have do a whole quartet, other wise it wouldn't really work...

Another little problem is that the quartet books... they are shorter so you have less material to work with into a script, and then their are the actors and the sets will cost a fortune as medival sets usually do. Also the chance that the movie could turn out bad like some book movie tend to do.

With Liam.. they had just a pure physical attraction for one thing.... and this was books after she overcame her fear of love I believe.. wasn't that in The Hand of the Goddess? Maybe I'm imagining things.. I love all the books.. But I do like the Circles characters Briar, he is funny. And I think that the characters in the all of her books are trying to be realistic.. but how realistic can you make characters in a fantasy book.. though Kel is awesome.

No, Liam came in "Lioness Rampant", I believe... AFTER Alanna had broken up with Jon and decided that she liked George after all...

My library just got in "The Will of the Empress" but I'm going to have to wait over a week before I can read it. I spent half of lunch reading it, standing in front of the "new book display" but I stopped because I was just getting annoyed that the books have to be up on display for a week first.... :annoyed2:

Would y'all recommend the Circle of Magic books? I was curious about them, but I heard from a few people that they weren't as good as the Tortall books.

No.. I was talking about when she became all not afraid of the love thing. But you are right, Liam came in during Lioness Rampart, and then she decided on George in the end.

And the Circle of Magic books are great, in my opinion. They are set differently though. They don't have fighting normally and revlolve around Sandry, Tris, Daja and Briar's lives as mages. But if you like things about mages try reading the first book and then decide, but they do get much better in the Circle Opens books.

Can't wait for Will of the Emperess.. I have to go buy it, my library never has new books.. *sigh*

I think it depends... I really like the Circle books. I found them less addictive, and I appreciated that. My brother's reading them at the moment, and he loves them.

They're different from the Tortall books, so I don't think you can really compare them. You'll really have to read them for yourself, Arwen, and make your own judgement... :)
