You double posted. Yeah, I stopped reading Twilight after getting halfway through New Moon, but do they get married or is it like all the other books where they decide not too?

I've never read any of them, but it seems as though this is a widely shared sentiment for this novel.

Thank god.

I'm about 200-and-something pages into Breaking Dawn, and I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with y'all. "Worst book ever" is rather strong words. Of course, I haven't got as far as you, but being very familiar with Stephenie Meyers books, I seriously doubt she'll disappoint me.

Now I'm not a die-hard Twilighter by any means. In my opinion, compared to other writers, Stephenie Meyer is very mediocre. At the same time, I realized that a bad writer wouldn't get such a fantastic and diverse fanbase. I know some very intelligent people who adore Twilight like it was a part of their soul. Stephenie Meyer has a lot of things going for her, and though you are very entitled to your opinion, you have to admit that millions of fans caan't all be mushy, brainless people who read Twilight just for the hot vampires.

Personally, though Twilight isn't my favorite thing ever, I find it a very enjoyable (if light) read. Stephenie Meyer does craft a romance well, despite the constant angst. I find the books engaging in the way that Meyer writers everything as if it's a movie playing out; the descriptions are easily understood and vivid.

Edward and Bella aren't particularly wonderful characters - but you got to admit, they're memorable. And actually, I LOVE a lot of the minor characters a lot more (like the sweet, devoted, clueless Mike Newton... or like Jasper Hale with his wordless dedication, his inner struggles, his complex history.) Meyer's characters have big flaws... and that's one of the main reasons I love them so much. Like all-too-typical humans, her characters often disappoint us in their decisions or choices. I threw Eclipse across the room when Bella kissed Jake because I was so angry at her. Stupid Bella. But then again, stupid FM, if in that situation, would probably react similar.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say in this senseless ramble is... give Twilight a chance. Believe me, we Twilighters aren't the idiots we may seem at times, I swear.

SPOILER!!!
Ashwise: Edward and Bella marry in the first of Breaking Dawn.

Eh, I finished Breaking Dawn this afternoon.

First of all - Thank you FM. I read Twilight before it was popular, and it was nice because you actually felt special that you knew who Edward was. And then everyone read it, and then their friends read it because of the hotties, and then their dog read it...
Though, I have to say, Stephenie Meyer is a good writer, and for me that's why the books are good. Because the plot is pretty weak when you break it down.

Anyway. Back to Breaking Dawn.
...Eclipse was better.

***BIG HUGE SPOILERS HERE***
Why, ohwhyohwhyohwhyohwhy did she have to make Bella pregnant? D; That wrecked it for me. (Side note: Renesmee sounds like a bad femslash pairing. In fact, I may have to write that.)
The Angst Monster has been living under my bed lately, and it thinks that the book would've been a lot better if Bella had died. I said over in the other thread that them living together happily ever after was too easy, and I stick to that.
And the other thing that bugged me was that the Volturi just... gave up. Honestly, you'd think that even though they were outnumbered, they'd atleast try. Now it just seems like the Vamp!World is ruled by a bunch of pansies.
I'm still not sure if I liked the book or not. Thing is, it doesn't feel like the series is finished. Stephenie tied all the loose ends together (I think), but it doesn't seem... right. Ya know?

yes, i agree.

I do like her books (the writing... not so much, but it's the story that intrigues me. she's a good story teller). but i still can't decide how i feel

~~ SPOILERS ~~

okay seriously? what kind of name is that? it's worse than albus severus. -sigh-
and Jacob IMPRINTING on her?? dude, that's just weird. "I loved your mom but now i'm in love with you"...??
I do like her, i mean, she's cute and all but really?

and bella having SO many powers? come on...

annnnnnnnnnnnnnd i'm a huge jasper/alice fan. she didn't even have them in there, and when they were, jasper wasn't the same. he seemed... i dunno what word i'm looking for here.

but i do have a new respect for poor jacob. i loved the rosalie/jacob fighting. that was great :D

but as a whole, i still don't know what to think

Ya know, I agree with the 2 above me.

SPOILER RIDDLED POST~~~

-Volturi was ruined by lack of a battle (OK, so I'm a guy who likes a battle scene. Is that a crime?)

-Renesmee coming into the world didn't make sense. ALTHOUGH, I reviewed an FAQ, it said that Vampires couldn't become pregnant(note female usage) But, there's only Venom in a male vamp. How can Ed father a child when the bodily mechanics are all off? Quite litterally, I said, "Oh, come on!"

-Jacob's blonde jokes and Rose-bashing in general made me laugh. Especially the doggy dish

-Imprinting, I could deal with. I wanted Bella to rip Jake's head off, anyway.

-I liked the arm-wrestling match

-Bella seemed a wee bit overpowered when the Volturi showed.

that's about it

the biggest thing that struck me is that the last half (i.e. bella as a vamp) just seemed so surreal. you go through 3.5 books in a semi-consistent manner, and then SM did some sort of 180 and changed everything.
i still enjoyed it, but sometimes i think about it and i just can't wrap my brain around all the changes.
by the way, the name renesmee really bothered me too. sounds like a name a little kid would make up for their doll/imaginary friend...
the other thing that bothered me is that stephenie deciding to be all "oh by the way new vampires have lots of sex all of the time" although it was NEVER hinted at before in any of the other books...though technically i didn't mind it, it just seemed odd.

by the way, i noticed that the bd quotes (if you followed them) were actually as deceiving as most people assumed. there were only 1 or 2 that actually were exactly what they "appeared" to be. most of the silly looking ones were serious, and most of the serious looking ones were....not-so-serious...

I totally agree with you. it seems as if that's all bella & edwards relationship was in this one. before it was deep... and meaningful but now...it's all physical.
-sigh-

i thought of a few more : D

why on earth is jasper named jazz all of a sudden?? it doesn't even fit!

Pluuuuuuuuuuuus. Did anyone notice that Bella got EVERYTHING?

the first three were all about sacrifice. in order to live the life with edward she'd have to give up everything...

Did she? no!

she got to be with charlie bc of that stupid self control power (which... btw jasper saying 'i cant take this' was completely uncharacteristic)

she got edward AND jacob (so to speak. jacob will be in her life anyways).

she even got a kid! (vampires aren't suppost to have them!).

and they didn't even have to move.

and what did she sacrifice? nothing!

Well, Stephenie always said Jazz was Jasper's nickname. Someone emailed her and asked a lot of questions, and that was one of her answers. I agree, though, she really screwed over his character. :annoyed2:

Yeah, Bella did get everything. She turned into a huge Mary Sue, which is especially sad because she started out being ordinary and not special, but then she's suddenly all-powerful and she gets everything she ever wanted. Not fair, man. That's why I wanted her to die, because I had a feeling that would happen.

SPOILERS

I may get a little over the top. Mods can edit if need be, but you guys have read the book, I think you can handle my mediocre ranting.

Ahahaha, this was a highly delightful hilarious book to read. Now, don't take me wrong, I enjoyed the first three, certiainly not in the level of Harry Potter, and nowhere close to LotR. They were a chance to escape reality for a few hours, until you had to come back to RL and understand that there is no such thing as Edward.

I already read the Wiki plot before I got the book yesterday, so I was fully prepared for the lack of intrest I would hold for this book. I finished it in 6 hours, which is a lot slower than the other 3.

I'll just steal Precious' thinger to critique it, I'm too lazy to actually point out all the plot details

@ Wedding Scene: Kind of skimmed, it was alright, but after reading about a vampire/human pairing, a wedding seemed boring

@ Honeymoon: Um, what? Bella's a sex addict... "No, it's alright, I want to go to college, experince it you know!" When in reality it's so she can have more sex!!
EDIT: Darn you SM, if you're going to wave a sex scene in my face, at least write the stupid thing out rather than having them slipping into the ocean. Sheesh. I want something more than the aftermath.

@ Bella preggers? Alright, I'm a stickler. It was hard enough for me to accept that the vamps had diamond hard skin, and they could move super fast. But there are two problems with Bella getting pregnant. I won't go into detail at all here, if you wish to see my view of this impossibility, PM me.

@ Jacob's Story: YAY! Finally, the only 3 Dimensional character in the entire freaking book gets his say!

@ Jacob starts his own pack? YAY! Finally, the only 3 Dimensional character in the entire freaking book gets his say!

@ Rose v.s. Jacob: YAY! Finally, the only 3 Dimensional character in the entire freaking book gets his say!

@ Back to Bella POV: Dammit.

@ Renesmee: This child is an impossibility. I hate it when children are spoiled by their parents, and this little "nudger" is the worst. And honestly, what is with that name. I preferred the little thing's middle name, Carlie or w.e it was, not Renesmee. It does sound like a bad femslash pairing.

@ Lagging: It did this. There were points where there was super intense action, and everything was super awesome. Then the majority of the book was BORING.

@Bella Being Super Vampire: The hell she is. What's all this nonsense about her being "perfect" as a vampire. Every new born is supposed to go through the exact same thing. But nooo, SM couldn't bring herself to let her poor MARY FREAKING SUE be NORMAL. Honestly, the whole "resisting human blood" and being super coordinated and all the other junk that Bella was amazing with. It bothered me. I'd like to see her in some actual pain for once.

@Jacob imprinting on Renesemeesdfkngign: Awwe, Jacob can imprint on me any day of the week, not that little flipper flopping spoiled rotten brat of a child.

@ Charlie knows now?: Sweet, finally someone got around to telling the poor guy.

@ Alice/Jasper disappear: Awwe.

@Volturi: /fail Nice fight guys, NOT. You'd think that they'd get over themselves and just rip Bella and Edward to tiny pieces and feed them to the pigeons, but noooo.

@ End of the book: *sigh*

Well, that's about it. The book had a different writing style, for the intense scenes of action or what have you, it seems that the size of the words decreased, while during the boring stuff, the words were more difficult. This book felt stunted, more so than the other three. Nothing really flowed. I think that she wanted to fit too much into one book. And the sad thing is, she knew that fans were going to buy it, regardless of whether or not it was good or bad, so she already made her money, and the satisfaction of a few fans can always be discarded for a few extra dollars.

Ugh. I bought and paid for this book with my own money, and I didn't get past page 32. Someone accidentally spoiled practically the entire book for me, and after I heard the spoilers, I didn't want to read anymore. Needless to say, it was a waste of $15.

Twilight - Good. Great. Loved all of the characters
New Moon - Depressing... Getting weird.
Eclipse - Weird. Stupid. Getting stupider.
Breaking Dawn: How stupid, cliche, and Mary-Sue can this get?!

Ugh. Spare yourself the aggravation of gagging over the unrealistic romance and pure sappy mary-sue-ness and don't read this book.

Meyers: You should have just stuck with the first novel.

After reading through the spoilers, I'm glad to say I didn't bother to read the book. I don't know why, but what everyone is saying about hoe it ended reminds me of the reaction to the Sweet Far Thing Ending by Libba Bray, which was really good.

I haven't finished it yet, but I thought I'd share my thoughts so far...they went something like this.

Yay marriage! I'm such a hopeless romantic! *Sigh* I hope my wedding is that perfect...

Seth. Is. Awesome!

WHAT THE HECK OK THEY HAD SEX YOU DON'T NEED TO TELL ME ABOUT IT EW GROSS JEEZE.

Bella? Pregnant? WTH?!?

YAY JACOB'S POV!!! Jacob has funny sarcastic chapter titles! Wheeeee!

Seth is still awesome.

YAY!! JACOB ACCEPTS HIS ALPHA POWERS!!

I hate you, Rosalie. Yay for Jacob vs. Rosalie!

Seth, still being awesome.

Oh, I'm starting to like Leah's character now. =D Maybe Jacob will fall in love with Leah! YAY!!

WTH RENESMEE? Bad name. BAD NAME. Very cute kid.

Yay Jacob imprinted! I don't care if it's weird, I'm happy for Jacob! But...there goes any hope of Jacob&Leah being together...

Nessie. *Snickers*

Ugh Bella you're such a dumb Mary-Sue. Grrrr. Dumb perfect vampires. Grrrrr!

Well, I'm glad Charlie knows. Charlie's a good character.

What? Didn't we already hit the climax? I feel like we're in the falling action section of the book! WHAT THE HECK IS WITH THE VOLTURI COMING TO VISIT?!?

And that's it, so far. *Sigh* I liked the first book better...

By the way, I think Carlie would've been a way better first name for Renesmee. Carlie actually sounds very cute...
