Isn't it though??!

*squeeeeeeee*

I watched most of "The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor". Win. :P Albeit, I only watched it because of Jonathan, but still, it was good. :D

"The Dark Knight"

I've watched it probably 3 times since I got it. And I got it on the 3rd. XD Such epic awesome greatness. :notworthy: GAAAAAAAH. Too much win, if such a thing is even possible. And even though everyone is perfect in this film, and even though I already adore Gary Oldman as much as humanly possible, EVERY time I watch it he just makes me love him even more. :P YAY GARY OLDMAN. YAY EVERYONE ELSE! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!

King Lear

Interesting to see Ian McKellen in a Shakespeare play. I wouldn't know if he was great or not, as I have no idea what Lear should be like. But he was very good and thanks to by complete works of Shakespeare book, I was able to follow it Ok... sort of... I just wish I'd read Wiki beforehand as it gave me the plot in a nutshell, so then I would have known what was going on automatically, rather than having to think every line through. :p

"Sid & Nancy"

"Bram Stoker's Dracula"

Oh yeah, I've been having like a Gary Oldman binge. WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN. Epic win for both movies. AHHH! Gary Oldman is pretty much the greatest. :notworthy:

He was so absolutely wild as Sid Vicious, I LOVED it. And so skinny and young! YAY! *cough* And YAAAAY for his Dracula. :vampire: YUMMMMMMEHHH.

Deep Impact - I must say, I enjoyed this movie. I dunno why... just the whole idea of the world ending, and, if you knew the world was ending what would you do with your last 4 weeks? :teehee: Plus, come on, you've got Eljah Wood, Morgan Freeman, and a bunch of other people whose names escapes me... it was cool. :P

i've been thinking about watching that myself, but i'm a bit hesitant - i don't like mckellen (macbeth is my second favourite play ever, but i had to stop watching his version after half an hour because his performance was so awful); and if you had to read wiki to understand the plot, it sounds like it's probably a bad production (i know shakespeare can be tricky, but it's the job of the director and the actors to make sure the plot comes across clearly).

anyway, last film i watched was volver

*gasp*

To be honest, the fact Ian McKellen was in it, was the only reason I watched any of the Shakespeare's that were on over Christmas. Even if I didn't like or understand it, there was always going to be something good from it.

After I read Wiki, I realised that I had actually understood the general plot... it's just the language which makes everything more complicated you know? Something like "where have you been" suddenly becomes really long and complicated and although I could tell it was full of biting dialogue and witticisms it was generally just lost on me. I don't doubt WS was a great writer, I would just like to see one of his plays written how he wrote it but translated into more common English speech so you're not losing what he wrote, but it's more appealing to people not up to scratch with dost thou knowest etc.

Stardust - SEPTIMUS!!! *squee*

^ you may gasp even more when i tell you i can't stand judi dench either. i saw her performing with the royal shaespeare company a few years ago, and she was dreadful.

i don't know what it is, but i just never totally believe in their characters, and i find them both to be totally devoid of any presence or charisma. plus, neither of them seem to have much range - those who saw mckellen perform in his younger days say he played romeo, hamlet and macbeth exactly the same way, despite the fact that the characters are poles apart; and judi dench always sounds like judi dench.

and i understand what you mean about the language, but his shakespearean speech was heightened even for its day - people in the 16th/17th centuries didn't really talk like that, and it wasn't meant to sounds like everyday talk. if you were to accurately translate shakespeare into modern english, much of it would still have to be in poetic language, so it still wouldn't sound like 'normal' speech.

i have to admit though, i love shakespearean verse. but then, i'm also the only person i know who prefers "sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" to "today has enough worries of it's own".

The Unborn. Oh man, what a waste of two hours of my life. So ridiculous I have rarely laughed so hard in my life though, so that was a plus. And Cam Gigandet was in just his briefs at one point, which was the only reason I went to see the movie in the first place. I wasn't disappointed in that respect. :D
