North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, I hear it is a much-loved story by period drama fans...

"Airhead" by Meg Cabot
Despite the fact that it's about a girl who gets a brain transplant and ends up in the body of a supermodel, it's surprisingly addicting without being lame. Because, of course, the girl doesn't want to be a supermodel and just wants to be herself again.

Those right there are two of my most favorite books ever. Good choices.

A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. Exemplary fantasy - he's great at having multiple POVs and well-rounded characters. And avoiding cliches. I'm really enjoying it.

Into the Darkness: World at War - Harry Turtledove
I've had to return it due to some insane R-rated material however -sigh- I really dont care for it.
