I really didn't understand Freya. I can't say that was my most favorite episode. But given that the title was "The Lady of the Lake" it's a possibility that she comes back as the Lady? Perhaps.

Goldy, I know! The whole Merlin trying to kill Morgana kind of dashes all hopes for a Merlin/Morgana ship. Not that we'll stop anyway. :eyeroll: But I really think that she'll come back and be trying to make trouble for Uther, for the most part. Just because that's been set up so much. I hope she gets development though. I don't want to see her just show up a full blown villain.

@Lemby: will you invite me to the wedding? :teehee: I need to see the loveliness in person. And of course Colin would be there, so, you know, it'd be awesomeness.

I thought I would share the beauty that is Season 3 set photos.

I just recently really got into this show. However, since I lack BBC I had to find a more unconventional way of watching the last two seasons.*cough*youtube*cough*

I adore the show and I mean, Arthur really is just the most gorgeous hunk of man on TV. just saying. :innocent:

I know most of what I have to say has already been expressed, but I might as well go for. I think the whole Gwen/Arthur ship really was too rushed. Anyone who knows anything about Arthurian legend knows they end up together. No need to push it in two episodes. Lancelot/Gwen had to happen also. In mean, in the legend those two all but have an affair. And even though I know their history in the legend Merlin/Morgana would be really cute...until he poisoned her.

True, they aren't staying real close with the myth so the stuff I think I know about of that could just go up in smoke.....which I fun. Anyway, hopefully since Syfy has started showing the first and second season they'll bring the third in once it comes out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Okay, I'm good for now. :-D

:notworthy: I LOVE that cloak! And her hair...!!! Thanks for the pictures! I'm insanely curious to see how they handle Morgna in the 3rd season. It's going to be seriously epic.

Thanks for all the comments on Lancelot! I think I just need a little more time to warm up to him. I particularly liked what you said, Nurr, about how the fact that him being a commoner gives him a connection with Gwen. I hadn't thought about it that way before, but it makes a lot of sense.

I think a lot of disapproval of Lancelot comes from history, that he is part of what brings Arthur's downfall. He's a bit of a contradiction. He is your knight of your dark ages, where chivalrous love reigns and everyone was very accepting of Lancelot's love for Guinevere until they actually consummated, and it's in that act which Lancelot goes against the moral code of Knighthood. So a lot of people can question that Lancelot himself is not a righteous knight, only that he is part of the knighthood which is essentially righteous.

What this version of Arthurian legend gives us is Lancelot, one who holds all the values of Knighthood even when he is NOT a knight. So we know that his moral code is in him as a person, not in him as a knight. It's in that which makes me really love this version of Lancelot, of course, Santiago Cabrera can only do so much since they only give him one episode per series (which is cods wallop, if you ask me). Lancelot of the show is essentially the perfect knight, and even Arthur himself sees that, and a lot of us today might view him as your typical Gary-Stu, but the fact that this historic character stems from a dark age of immorality, he represents -- as Gwen put it -- "all that is good in this world".

It's also the fact that Johnny Capps & co. decided to initiate a Lancelot/Gwen first that helps kind of neutralize how Lancelot/Gwen is viewed, it's no longer really a sense of an "affair", because by all rights, Lancelot got there first --- not Arthur. But of course, no one can put on a pout quite like Bradley James.

Lancelot in the show is very self-sacrificing, and he keeps to the code and the rules --- but he's not naive to the realities of his situation. What are the chances of him becoming a knight? But despite his inability to be of noble blood and to officially become one of the pack, he still insists on fighting for what he believes in. He believes in saving people, evident in his act of facing the gryphon in 1x05 even though he knows that nothing but magic can defeat it. But he had to try, or at least die doing so. It's evident in the way that he tries to rescue Guinevere all by himself in 2x04, even though he knows the consequence should he be caught. He was willing to sacrifice himself for one person (the contrast to his sacrifice for an entire city). It's in the way that he was completely content to die in the face of Hengist's wrath, UNTIL Hengist brings Guinevere back in, and that's when Lancelot starts to panic, because it doesn't matter if <i>he</i> dies, but it matters if <i>she</i> does.

Even in reflection of the Lancelot/Guinevere/Arthur triangle of the show. Personally, I'm an Arthur/Gwen shipper, but I can't help to feel for Lancelot because of his natural self-sacrificing nature. In 1x05, he goes to say goodbye to her, because she at least deserved a goodbye -- he feels he is not worthy of her, and at that point, he might not have been because he is an exiled wannabe knight with no chance of receiving the honor of a man worthy to court her. To him, she is a lady and deserves the best that the world could offer her. And in 2x04, when he <i>notices</i> the glances between Arthur and Gwen and asks Merlin of it and Merlin confirms it.

"He has feelings for her, doesn't he?" Lancelot says.
And Merlin solemnly replies, "What about you? Do you have feelings for Gwen?"
And it's the way Lancelot submissively says, "My feelings do not matter. I will not come between them."

He doesn't even CONSIDER the fact that he, himself, is better for Gwen and that their relationship is more plausible because he still sees her as a LADY, worthy of great things and Arthur is what she deserves. All that he does, it's never been for himself. It's always been for the good of others, because that is what drives him.

AND I JUST LOVE LANCELOT.

I don't think anyone can add much more to that, Kit. Pretty much summed up the awesomeness of this Lancelot. I especially love this bit:

Because I think it is the main thing that has me not disliking Lance at all. He noticed Gwen first and loved her first. It just really adds a whole new depth to their relationship.

Also, since we've been spewing all his wonderful qualities, it's like, "Why does Gwen go for Arthur?" So I think it's worth noting that Lancelot let her down twice. The first time wasn't really that much of a let down. I mean, it was kind of either leave or die sort of thing. But he still left and she was upset. The second time I'm pretty sure she thought he was there to stay. And then Arthur shows up, and he leaves without a word to her. I really wonder how that will impact the relationship the next time he comes around. (And I'm not saying he was wrong in leaving or anything, just that it will change things some I should assume.) More than just one episode for Lance pleeeeeeeease BBC?

Oh goodness, Nurrantiel. Why would you have to go and pose another question. Now I'm gonna end up writing another essay on "Why Gwen goes for Arthur?" XDDDDD I'm gonna end up doing a whole analysis of the Lancelot/Gwen relationship from Gwen's end and in relation to her interactions with Arthur.

But I'm in class right now, so I can't really do that.

But once I get home, you better bet your bottom dollar you'll be seeing another long essay.

I second what Kit said about Lancelot. I like Lancelot a lot, for most of the reasons Kit laid out. (Self-sacrificing goes over big with me. :teehee:) I don't know if I actually prefer Lancelot over Arthur at this point... I think that's impossible when Lancelot has appeared in only 2 episodes... but I definitely sympathize with him a lot.

As for why Gwen prefers Arthur: in addition to the reasons everybody loves Arthur (), I think it's because Gwen senses that Arthur needs her, and that she can teach him humility and gentleness. Also, because Arthur is there, Lancelot is not. I wonder, if (or when) Lancelot is more present, will she still favor Arthur so much? After all, in the legend Guinevere did, in a sense, pick Lancelot over Arthur in the end.

Haha, I actually hadn't thought I was asking everyone a question, but I love to hear the answers.

Taur, I do think that's a very important point. Arthur is there. Lancelot has left her twice, and that has to impact their relationship somehow. Especially how he left at the end of 2x04. No goodbye, no explanation, nothing after almost promising her that they'd be together.

I think Lancelot was wrong; not in leaving, necessarily, but in the way he did so. I understand his reasons, and actually admire them, but he still should have realized that it's her life that he's basically deciding for her. After everything that happened between them in 2x04, and the way Gwen responded to him, and trusted him, and kissed him-he should have realized that at the very least he owed her an explanation and a good-bye. I know it would have been hard, but I don't think Lancelot is one to shy away from something because it's hard. I know he was being self-sacrificing, but he sacrificed some of Gwen's hopes as well, and I don't think that was fair. He owed her an explanation.

So I do think that will impact their relationship (at least, it should).

Sorry to be interrupting your highly interesting explorations of Lancelot's character.

I just wanted to say "Thank you" for the Season 3 set pictures links. They really made my day!

Is there an official starting date for Season 3 already?

I've heard September, too. I haven't seen an exact date, but I did read mid-September somewhere... *sigh*
They'd better give us plenty of pictures and such in the mean time, if they're going to be so insistent upon making us wait. Nurr's link reaaally does help, though. :-D

Both Saturdays. So most likely, season 3 will start on the 18th. Man, if it would start a week earlier it would be on my birthday!

And you guys are welcome. I've been scouring [s]the Internet[/s] livejournal for set photos, so when I find more I'll be sure to share. Although I don't know how much more you can get than 20 pages on photobucket of them!

I was just rewatching le Morte d'Arthur today. And seeing how much I absolutely love Nimueh. She's really cool. And at one point she says "With my help Arthur will become king."

Supposedly she is good at foretelling things. But we see her die. I wonder, though, if it's possible that she will come back as the lady of the lake? Because that would be so awesome I would die of happiness.

Managed to slog through both seasons with one hand tied behind my back (it was working on Chem. I think.)

WHY ISN'T IT SEPTEMBER ALREADY?!

Ahem. I have been wailing about this to my mother who is finding it very strange that I actually care about a television show for the first time in my life. I think that the end of high school is getting the best of me, quite honestly... BUT I DIVERGE.

I sort of skimmed through some of the convos up top - mostly about Lancelot/Arthur/Gwen, and I totally agree with Kit's insightful comments. (How do you do it dear?)

I, however, come with yet another question. Well... More of a word really.

MORGANA.

I like evil, shiny things, and Miss M happens to fall under this category. And although I've 'aww'-ed at her nobleness until now, I kind of want to see some badass action. Sort of like... A Bellatrix, maybe? -snortgiggledies-

No. But in Season 3 does she come out of pixie boot camp and decide to take over the world or?

Food for thought.

-S
