What's Torn?

It said on IMDB it was announced at a press conference and it also gave 20 films that Warner Bros would be releasing over the next few years. It said it was official so I don't know.

EDIT: Seems there was some confusion. You'd think the silly studios would get it right. :P

You have a point Taur. Just the fact that it's available in 3D bothers me though. It all seems like a ploy [and it probably is!]

Not gonna lie, I think it would be awesome to see The Hobbit in 3D. Seeing Smaug fly out of the screen at me sound fairly epic. As long as they don't compromise the actual story for cool effects, I think it could be pretty cool. Then again I really like 3D. Just me opinion though.

If they have to make it in 3D, as long as I can watch it normally, then that's OK. Even if it didn't hurt to wear 3D glasses over my own, 3D has not proved itself to me. The few times in a film where I am aware that it's even jumping out at me (and these are usually carefully manufactured scenes just for that purpose), are not worth the money. And I find myself waiting for the big 3D element just to be disappointed when it arrives and I either don't notice it, or it just never worked.

I wouldn't want to spend my time scanning The Hobbit for signs of 3D-ness and then taking my attention away from the film to wonder why the heck a certain scene was poking at me in such an unimpressive way.

^ I remember feeling that way when I decided to see Alice in Wonderland in 2-D, and of course by two minutes in I totally forgot to look for signs of 3-Dness. I'm sure it'll be the same for The Hobbit for me, and I hope it will for you, too. :)

By the way, TORN is TheOneRing.Net. :)

@ Lar... I think 3-D is a ploy right now, but who knows? It might become a legitimate part of film-making by 2012, or it might drop into oblivion. It's hard to tell at this point. :erm:

Personally, I think The Hobbit in 3-D will ruin its storybook atmosphere. But I admit, if they decide to make it 3-D, I'll probably see it in 2-D first and then go back and see it in 3-D, just out of curiosity.

It really is a difficult thing to predict. 3D seems popular now [there's a 3D telly on the market for goodness sake!], but I know a lot of people who are becoming quite disenchanted with it. *shrug* We'll see . . .

I apologise in advance of my erratic -ness

NEWSSSSS NEWWWWSSSS GOOD NEWWSS

BILL BAILEY AUDITIONS FOR GLOIN

For all you non-Brits, Bill Bailey is a stand-up comedian/ nature activist/ panel show captain/ actor [s] who totally is an alumni of MY university & who's Birthday is the SAME DAY as mine & ORLANDO BLOOM'S [/s] And he is totally, completely, in every way awesome!!!

Now according to one of his stand-up shows (part troll?_, he claims that he auditioned for the role of Gimli and was turned down because he was too West-Country and hobbity. Now cause it was in a stand up show that previous anecdote could be entirely fictional, but this current news seems pretty legit, even though I haven't seen anything on his twitter.

Whether he gets the part or not, its likely to mean good news for LotR fans. If he gets it, then we get an amazing and funny actor in a great role. If he doesn't then it means us LotR fans will most likely be treated to more LotR-related hilarious stand-up from him!

Also slightly less exciting news.

- A relatively unknown, but very hobbity looking Irish actress has auditioned for the role of Primula Link

&

-Cate Blanchett is uncertain about whether Galadriel will appear in the hobbit or not (I personally hope she is because Cate is the most epic actress in the whole wide world)

If the Hobbit is 3D, I will cry. I've seen a LOT of 3D movies, and the only one that was half decent was How To Train Your Dragon. All the others have either been awful, distracting or just plain stupid. I hate paying an extra 4/5 bucks for the damn glasses and the supposed "advanced" technology. 3D is a money grabber, and nine times out of ten, it's not worth it.

In other news, Bill looks like he would be an awesome Dwarf, he has that look about him...

^ I agree with you. HTTYD was the best I've seen in 3-D. It just looked... right. And not so obvious.

If they must have the Hobbit in 3-D... well they must I guess. But if I see it in 3-D I won't watch it until I have seen the "proper" version.

Yay. Another British comedian to possibly tag onto a blockbuster film. I blame Ricky Gervais and Russel Brand.

Hey guys, 3D isn't a big deal, at all. That is, if they are doing it like Avatar. 3D isn't really "pop out of the screen" 3D like amusement park rides. Rather, it adds more depth to the shot. It is almost like you are watching the show in a shadowbox rather than a flat screen. No biggy. If they want it in 3D, that would be cool simply for the fact that the camera used is super nice and it will be amazing picture quality. Other than that, doesn't matter... the story and fan base should speak for itself.

Personally, the Hobbit in 3D doesn't have any ring to it, so my vote is nay. Lol.

I don't care for the idea of 3D at all, although basically at this point I just want it to be filmed and released regardless!

I agree with smeag; I actually enjoy watching the movies in 3D (wouldn't do it for every single film though as it does get pricey). I've seen Coraline and Alice in Wonderland in 3D and I thought it was absolutely wonderful - at one point I actually forgot I was watching it in 3D... I think your eyes sort of just adjust at a certain point...? (Mine do at least, and I have to wear the glasses over my own as well, Goatcloset. :P)

I have to say I'm not as excited for this movie as I am for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides but it is cool that they're keeping the LotR spirit alive and hopefully the forum will start picking back up as well. And I shall be seeing both the Hobbit and On Stranger Tides in 3D when they arrive in theatres

Wow. That is big news.

Well I've been in the PJ camp for a long time now, so maybe he will realise if this is ever to get made, he needs to stand up and take the helm.
