Hi! I am a Roman Catholic, severe Tolkien-addict, pianist, dancer, chronic daydreamer, obsessive reader, and I love to sing. I love music, particularly Celtic, languages, and names. In my perfect life I am an Elf and I live in Rivendell. My current count on the books is: Silmarillion- 3 1/2. Lord of the Rings- 4. Hobbit- 3. I've also read some of the History of Middle Earth series (Morgoth's Ring is my favorite of those), Smith of Wooton Major, Farmer Giles of Ham, Leaf by Niggle, and the On Fairy Stories essay. I lost count on the movies. You may call me Ellirwen, or Luthien if you like. I don't have much of a preference. Ellirwen is the Elvish name I made for myself; it means "star-song."

Hello, everyone! I wasn't sure whether the proper protocol is to post an introduction in this thread or start an entirely new one, so I went with the safer option. So, after a week or two of lurking, I have finally joined this wonderful forum. Please ignore my very fangirly username--Arabella is the name of an Original Character I created for the LotR fandom--my fanfictions lay scribbled down in varous notebooks around my room! In fact, the name Arabella and it's subsequent nickname of Ari have stuck with me so much that my friends and family have started calling me that as well, so feel free to call me either. Ari eventually married Frodo in my story. Yes. I am a shameless fangirl! My first introduction to the world of Middle-Earth was when I was about eight or nine years old, when my mom read me The Hobbit to keep us both occupied while waiting for the next Harry Potter book! Needless to say, I fell in love with Tolkien's story and language, but I didn't venture into the trilogy until years later, when I read The Fellowship of the Ring as part of a summer reading assignment in the summer of 2007, right before I began ninth grade. It was rather symbolic for me--I was entering a new school at the time and was incredibly nervous, but reading The Lord of the Rings somehow gave me courage. Now, as an incoming college freshman (theater major) moving into her dorm in eight days (Ah!) I am trying to draw the same strength as I did then from the story I love so much. Shortly after I read the first book, I saw the first movie (yes, I came late to the party, I know!) and fell in love again, with everything from the music to the landscape of Middle-Earth to the main character. And it's been a love that's continued for four years now. As for my other interests, I have wanted to become a stage and screen actress since the age of eleven, when I played the Spider in an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty at our community theatre. I love to write, read, sing, act, and talk, as you can probably tell from this novel of a first post! Through my love of Lord of the Rings, I also met some of the best friends I have ever had. We had LotR marathon weekends nearly every weekend my freshman and sophomore years! I can only hope that I find friendships just as good among the members of this forum.

Mára aurë, Ari, and welcome to AU! I really enjoyed reading your introduction. glad to know another Frodo fan has arrived! your hobbies (I just typed 'hobbits', gasp) sound awesome. I've always admired people who do stage plays! it sounds so fun. I love acting, but I've never been in a play - just with movies I make with friends. I wish you best of luck at college! any plans for your major? and if you ever feel like sharing some fanfiction, I'd love to read. happy posting!

Thank you, Legolas and Alanna, for the kind words of welcome! Alanna, I'm glad to know you're also a Frodo fan. I look forward to fangirling with you. There's just something about those eyes... *ahem* No, I probably shouldn't get too carried away just yet. XD
As for my major, I've not-so-tentatively decided on theatre, and I'm taking two theatre classes this semester, one being Voice and Diction and the other Theatre Colloquium. As an aside, I actually spoke some Elvish to my orientation group during orientation in June during a game of Two Truths and a Lie. It might have been simultaneously the coolest and most embarrassing moment of my life.

perhaps we should revive the Elijah Wood thread, lol. I hope that works out for you - in college, I mean. have you been in any musicals? I'm told they're another whole experience than that of the public high school. that's so cool that you spoke Elvish at your orientation! I'm totally writing that down, so when I have to attend a college orientation, I'll have something to say! (did anyone know you were speaking Elvish or what you were quoting?) anyway, this is *supposed* to be a welcoming thread, I think, so I won't ask any more questions. I like to talk sometimes too.

It's all right, I like answering questions! If we get too chatty, we could always carry the conversation to another thread or start a conversation via message or something, I suppose. I've been in... *stops to count* six or seven musicals. My first one was Peter Pan, in 7th grade. I was one of the Lost Boys, which we changed to Lost Kids for the production, since there were so many girls, and I broke a toe during the production--the Lost Kids were all barefoot onstage, and a pirate stepped on my toe in the dark. In a way, I can identify with Sean Astin's story about how he cut his foot during filming of FotR, since I've had a performance-related foot injury too! Most recently, I was Frenchy in Grease, which was the perfect musical to do my senior year--plus, I had a fabulously awesome red wig! I've also done The Wizard of Oz (like Elijah Wood did!), Seussical the Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, and others. They knew I was speaking Elvish at orientation, but only because I told them. We were playing an icebreaker game called Two Truths and a Lie, where you list two truths and a lie about yourself and the rest of the people playing have to guess the lie. I'm a pretty competitive person, so I like to say unusual things that happen to be true so people I'm playing with will assume it's the lie and get it wrong, so I told them I spoke some conversational Elvish knowing that they would guess that that was my lie. They did--some of them didn't even know what Elvish was!--and when I told them it was true, they demanded proof, so I said something along the lines of "Mára aurë, Ari eneth nîn," and followed it up by some simple lines from the movies that I thought people would recognize, but nobody seemed to. It was fun, but people in my group sort of avoided me after that...I think I may have scared them! Oh well, such is the life of a Tolkien fan sometimes, I suppose. ^_^

wow. you've done a lot of musicals! o.O that's funny (ok, well, not funny - but you get what I mean) about your foot injury! I always break bones doing stupid things, instead of being in epic plays. the same thing happened to me too, only I was running on a shell-strewn beach. not quite so honorable. xD that's so cool that you guys did Grease! I love the movie, but I've never been to a live play. I bet it was totally awesome! sounds like a fun game, incidentally. I should memorize more Elvish if appropriate occasions come up.

Welcome Ari!
Wow! It's so nice to meet another LotR (and Frodo) fan!!!!
How are you doing in your classes??? Can you let me know what you learn and find out? I don't know if you've read my post, but I want to be an actress as well! After I saw LotR, I just knew that was for me!!!
Thank you!

Hello and welcome Ari! I am new as well(as you can tell from a previous post)! Your "story" is very interesting, and can't wait to talk with you and everyone else here! I also started watching the movies about 2007(or maybe 2006, can't really remember). I haven't read any books yet, though:(
