Argh why must it be sooo long till the next season comes out??? I've been going back and watching old episodes... making Merlin graphics... hmph. Everything I'm excited for isn't coming out till the end of the year. :(
I wonder when Mordred is going to kill Arthur...

They're saying season 5 is going to come out in September... does anyone know the exact date? I know it's after Doctor Who... sadly... :teehee:

I've heard it's gonna be 29th September. I can't wait! :-D

First ep aired last Saturday! And it was a good beginning. With my main cheering being for Gwen the freaking awesome Queen of Camelot. Seriously. She was hands down the best part of that episode (and excuse me while I go slap people upside the head for actually complaining about her).

What? Gwen wasn't the best part. :P
I did like her though... except when she sentenced that girl to death... but I suppose she had to... :annoyed2:

Other than the fact that a new episode came out? :teehee:
I really liked Gwen's servant girl, even after I knew she was 'on the evil side' :P
The part where Merlin and Arthur got stuck in the net was hilarious.
Although I don't see why Arthur didn't just help Merlin climb up to the big hole in the top... they could have escaped.

I changed my mind. Mordred was totally the best part.

:teehee: No, I still loved Gwen the most, but I've been getting really excited about the potential with Mordred. There are so many ways this could go, I just hope the writers understand that. doesn'thurtthathe'sreallypretty*cough*

Spoilers.

I find it very interesting that Mordred waited to make a move on Morgana until they heard Merlin calling. Was he scared Merlin would try to kill them both? Did he want to make sure Merlin saw him being friendly to them? Did he want to be sure that he'd be the one doing it, so that Arthur would trust him?

I really, really like the way this is shaping up (so far). Morgana, Merlin, and Mordred all basically want the same thing - magic to be allowed, to not have to hide themselves. Morgana also wants the power, the revenge - she is in some ways the hatred of Uther. Merlin has almost gotten to the point where he fears all magic because of what he has seen, what he knows, and what he can do - he is the fear of Uther, in some ways. And Mordred just wants peace. He saw the hatred in Morgana and didn't like it. I really want some of this season to be him viewing Merlin in almost the same light - someone who is actually a threat to a new kingdom with magic, because of his willingness to believe the evil in people (see: fear of those with magic for what they could do to Arthur). Mordred's loyalty is to the future, with or without Arthur (with, at this point), while Merlin's loyalty has become to Arthur, and less to what he was supposed to bring about.

Mordred was awesome in the 2nd episode!
I was surprised when he stabbed Morgana... O.o that was so unexpected... at least to me. :P

I didn't, like, rush off to start watching season 5 just because Mordred is s e x y because that would be silly and I'm not shallow or anything

Except for the fact that I did. Fortunately it's not hard to figure out what happened in the two full seasons that I skipped. :P

Side note: not sure if I should be pleased that they've stopped imitating LotR cinematography and gone for a Game of Thrones look instead? The wolves and the ravens? Really? :eyeroll:

This has been a really insightful post, hasn't it

 The old "I watch it for the plot" saying has never been more true than for this show. Honestly. There are plot points that can be good, but if you say you're not drawn in by the pretty that is Arthur/Merlin/Mordred/Leon/Percival/Gwaine/Lancelot/Elyan you're probably lying to yourself. :teehee:

I dunno, if you skipped seasons 3 and 4, you missed some really important stuff. Like magical people trying to kill Arthur, and Merlin saving him without his knowledge, and then being called a name. How could you live without knowing those episodes? :P

I would suggest though that you watch The Eye of the Pheonix,
The Sorcerer's Shadow, and The Coming of Arthur (S3). Those were probably some of my favorites. If you want backstory for the dragon, watch Aithusa (S4), and if you want some more pretty Lancelot (cause he's dead, sorry) watch Lancelot du Lac or The Darkest Hour (S4).

Well, personally, I'd see the wolves as more of a Narnia thing given they were pulling Morgana's sled. Really? Of course, they'll be most likely to imitate whatever popular fantasy is around at the time, so I'm not surprised it makes you think GoT. I don't care as long as it's still pretty scenery shots.

 You guys are hilarious. Why would you watch something just because there's a good looking guy in it? :teehee:

Wolves and ravens have been used in stuff a lot before GoT... who says they're copying it from there?
There are evil wolves in a lot of things. :P

Haha, Nurr, you reminded me that the only reason why I watched the first two seasons was Pretty Men. :P Thanks for the tips on which episodes to go back to--if I get a chance, I probably will watch them. They're not on BBC iPlayer though, so it'll be hard. Yeah, that's right, I can get iPlayer now. Y'all jealous. :P

As for "I Spy A GOT reference"... well, face it, GOT is the "trendy" fantasy thing at the moment, and I'd definitely look it over if it weren't for the sudden (yes, I know, there's two seasons that might have explained it) change to a snowy setting. Winter + wolves + ravens = Winterfell. Although, yes, it's also very Narnia-esque. Morgana seems to be the new White Witch, though I guess she's sticking to black for the full Evil Effect. :teehee: The thing is, nothing will make me roll my eyes as hard as the shot in Season 2 that was more or less the same as the Nazgul chasing Arwen in FotR. I had to pause it and cringe. :duh:

In summary... Pretty men > pretty scenery.

I'm so progressive.
