We have now a date for the release of the Extended Edition for The Hobbit: AUJ: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Hobbi ... ray/75411/At least for those of us that live in the US and Canada. I'm uncertain about the other countries, but I'll keep you posted (or at least somebody will). It looks like it will be a 7-disc set, and contain both versions (2D and 3D). 4 of the discs will be on Blu-ray, with the final 3 being on DVD, so you don't have to worry if you don't have a Blu-ray player yet (hopefully by this time I will, depending on the collectibles they get out for DoS).

Update on the Extended Editions: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Hobbi ... ray/75411/It seems there will be three different versions to choose from and only contain 13 minutes of extra footage, instead of the supposed 20-25 minutes. Perhaps those extra 10 minutes were put into the DoS instead of the Extended Edition to AUJ. A similar thing happened with Saruman's death scene in LotR. Not much commentaries, but since I rarely watch those anyways, this isn't much of a big deal for me. I find it distracting (even if it's your favorite cast member talking). As to whether I'll buy this version or the DVD will depend if I can afford to upgrade to Blu-ray, since I'll also have to buy a 3D television.

And the EE can be pre-ordered on Amazon! The official release date is November 5th on Amazon, and I suspect most other countries will release it in the week after that. Amazon offers four versions: - DVD - Blu-ray - Blu-ray 3D - Blu-ray 3D with Gollem/Bilbo statue Woohooo, only two more months

Well who else grabbed the EE that came out this week? I was very fortunate as I got to Walmart & they had 2 blu ray copies left so I got one. I read some people missed out & had to order online as stores were selling out pretty quick.
Again I thought the extra scenes were a perfect touch on the movies just as they were for the LOTR
So I'm glad I bought it as the movie was great & I have not even started with the 9 hours of dvd extras, should be a great couple of days in front of the tv!

I just got mine the other day, and man is it so worth it! Disclaimer first off, I exited the Hobbit with nothing but Rivendell on the brain, so spending some more time there was just fabulous. There were very few extra scenes added in, but all of them added more richness to the movie (especially at the beginning with Bilbo). And the appendices are fabulous. There's so much good stuff in there! Hopefully we'll get an in-depth look at costumes (if it's there I haven't gotten to it yet) but I'm really loving them.

I don't know what to do! (I'm sort of half-off my anti-Hobbit thing at the moment. See the DoS full trailer thread for why. ) I kind of want to get the EE but I don't know which one to get! I do have access to a Blu-ray player which is in the lounge but I watch most of my films on my laptop which only takes DVDs. So I don't know if there's any point in buying the Blu-ray plus I don't have a 3D player so not sure if I want to waste money on buying that when I can't even use it (and probably never will.) But, the Blu-ray is only £2 more than the DVD. Nope, ok, convincing myself here, I am going to get the DVD one. Because it will have to go on the bookcase with my LotR EE (and also my Complete Recordings) and the DVD cover will fit in better with the LotR ones than the Blu-ray cover will. So I do not need the Blu-ray. No I do not. I don't. Nope. I will not.

I got mine last week, but I've promised to watch it for the first time together with a friend. So now it's just staring at me from my nightstand I did watch the menu on the first disc though. That sounds kind of strange, but I really loved the menu on the LotR EE, so I was wondering how they did it for the Hobbit. And even though I miss the beautiful drawings by Alan Lee on the background, I also really like the little tour in Bag End So far, it looks promising!

The Extended Edition is awesome!!! I pre-ordered the 5-disc DVD (since I can't afford to upgrade to Blu-ray yet) along with the Visual Companion to DoS from my local bookstore kiosk and got it in the mail on release day (the Visual Companion came about a week later, which I read in about a day). Of the extra scenes, the one that nearly reduces me to tears is when Thorin and Bilbo overhear Elrond and Gandalf talk about the madness that runs in Thorin's family. That scene is so sad. I also like the Goblin King's song (though not as much as the new DoS song; I'll think I'll be putting that track on repeat a few times, much like I do now with the Song of the Lonely Mountain from AUJ). It's catchy. I like how Peter Jackson directed Barry Humphries to "sing it badly". It's not that the Goblin King has a bad singing voice, he just sings it badly, though I think Thorin can outdo them all.

I have not looked into the new film much apart from watching the trailer. I have pre-ordered the soundtrack though. Might have a listen to the song, not sure though. When I listened to the Song of the Lonely Mountain before I saw AUJ I wasn't that keen on it but after I saw the film, I loved it.

I'm definitely waiting til I see the movie. I think if I listen now, it'll just sound more like a standard Ed Sheeran song, but if I hear it in the context of the movie it'll sound like a ballad for the dwarves.

*SPOILERS FOR EXTENDED SCENES!!*The scenes with little Bilbo and with older Bilbo in Hobbiton are both beautiful. It's so nice to see some more of the Hobbits and their everyday life My favorite added scene however is the scene where Thorin and Bilbo overhear Gandalf and Elrond talking in Rivendell. It blends in really well with the already existing movie, and it really adds something to Thorin's character. Nurrantiel Mashiara wrote: And the appendices are fabulous. Yes, the appendices are as amazing as they were for LotR. I loved hearing the story of why Peter Jackson ultimately decided to direct the Hobbit, as well as seeing all the casting videos from the Dwarf cast. Adam Brown would have made an adorable Bilbo
