I think my friends and family are sick of me. Well, what do they expect?! They make a huge deal about me finding something that I'm passionate about, to at least try to turn into a job. I've found that on my own with my book. Now they give attitude and roll their eyes, when I metion that I was writing. I seriously don't understand some people.

Well.. if you think that you don't understand some people, then you don't. . That sounds very weird to me, their behavior, I mean. As a writer I know how hard writing can be sometimes.

Could it have to do with the reality of actually trying to turn writing into a full-time job? I mean, I get where you're coming from as an author myself, and my mum has said repeatedly that she supports me. But if I actually did turn 100% into writing I think it'd annoy her simply because writing doesn't earn you money at first. Unless you write for a magazine or something of the sort. Yeah, writing a wook can earn you money in the future if you've got enough talent for it, but it can be anything from 1-10-20 years even before you write something that can be published and sell enough for you to earn a full living on it. That's the harsh reality. Just like with acting and singing and so many other forms of art. Some people who have an extreme talent and also a whole lot of luck to get discovered quickly can earn money sooner than that. But for most it takes a lot of time.
That's why I'm writing on the side, and not devoting my full time to it. If I did I'd have to move back in with my parents and my mum would have to financially support me, a 25 year old, for at least 2-3 years (because my book won't be ready for publishing before then). I can understand why my mum might support my dream of writing, but if it turned into reality she wouldn't be pleased.
I'm not saying this is the case with your family, but it COULD be. It does sound nice and dandy to tell someone "find your dream job and go for it", but if they do and it's something that might never even earn them enough money for things to go round... it's understandable that they might be a bit peeved.
Although if writing is still the only thing you want to focus on then go for it. But as a writer you're likely to be met with a lot of rolling eyes and attitudes of "ha, and how is that ever going to earn you any money?!" Which isn't RIGHT, but it's how people usually react.

Writing is not my dream job. None of that is the case. They just like to build me up and tear me back down again.

I read this sentence "They make a huge deal about me finding something that I'm passionate about, to at least try to turn into a job." and made an assumption that writing as a job is your passion.

I'm passionate about writing as a hobby. The plot I come up with, I don't want it to be forgotten, or end up as some lost file on my computer. There's the job opportunity.

Today someone flipped out at me for saying I love Loki without having seen the Avengers/Thor. Eh. What?! I've loved Loki since I was a kid and read about him in Nordic Mythology. I don't need to see the newest franchise with him to know I love him. Besides, I've seen enough clips, gifs, interviews, and so on to know I do love him in those movies also. But I was basically called a poser and an idiot for it. What? The logic of some people...

So for what I'm writing, I suddenly had the idea hit me out of nowhere for my character to run into some life problems that makes her want to pack up and just jet off to get away from it all, and she heads to Ireland to seek inspiration for her writing. I was like, ok, thats always a fun storyline, who knows what could happen to her there, but then its like hmmm....I've never been to Ireland, so getting the right local dialect would be a problem....dang. Always nice to have a good day Though I got up early, I was able to get my shower, cook a nice breakfast, do my hour yoga routine, take the dog for a walk, get some laundry done, and clean parts of the house before lunch. So I was able to have my entire afternoon to relax and work on my cross stitch project, so I didnt really mind getting up earlier than usual!

Hiya family, I'm back! I hope everyone has gotten over their colds by now Wow Tink you got a lot of things done! I'll take that as my inspiration for tomorrow: I need to work on my thesis, make dinner, work out and be ready in time to go to the theatre in the evening.

If you need some help Tink, I could help. I'm not Irish personally, but my mother is friends with an older Irish woman, I hear them talking often. I see a lot of films set in Ireland, and all of the characters are usually from there. I picked up a lot of the dialogue and phrases, because I was going to write a book set there, but I changed my mind because I couldn't get the plot to work.

Thanks Erin! If I can get my plot worked out well enough to keep going, I'll take you up on the offer, definitely!

Tink: I'll also recommend a few movies, that have good irish dialect in them. Though one of them is very emotional.
