It's actually kind of a toss-up whether this goes in literature or in movies, but since the end result is deciding what movies should be made, I posted it here....
Anyway, I don't know about everyone else, but sometimes when I read a book, I just visualize every aspect of it as a film, and then get annoyed because either no one's EVER filmed it, or the film versions are awful. So, I was just wondering, what books would you absolutely love to see made into movies? What books would you love to be remade into very different ones from the current film versions of them? Whom would you want to see cast in roles, writing the musical score, directing the film, etc.? Here are my lists...
Books that have never been filmed but should be:
The Song of the Lioness Quartet, by Tamora Pierce - These books, along with Ms. Pierce's other ones, were just MADE to be filmed. I think that the story (a young girl disguises herself as a boy so that she can undergo training as a page and squire to earn her knighthood) would do well among adolescent audiences today, too. I can't think of whom I'd want cast in roles though. Alanna, the main character, is supposed to have red hair and violet eyes (not exactly COMMON among young actresses), and most of the other characters are kids or teens, so no one immediately jumps to mind. The first actor who jumped to mind to play Prince Jonathan was Orlando Bloom, but he'd need to don blue contacts, and he'd be too old at least at first for the role. I'm thinking Ewan McGregor for the role of Liam...*sigh* I think a score by Hans Zimmer (he did Gladiator and The Last Samurai, among other films) would work well, but I'm not sure about directors.
The Chronicles of Prydain, by Lloyd Alexander - Another series that I'd love to see filmed! Medieval fantasy films seem to be "in" nowadays, so I bet it would do well at the box office. I think that there was an animated version of the second book in the series, but *shudder* it would be the same as LotR's animated version probably. I can't think of anyone for the roles of Taran and Eilonwy, but I think one of the guys from King Arthur (Clive Owen or Ioan Gruffud [geez I probably butchered his name]) would work for Gwydion, and somehow I picture David Wenham as the bard in The Black Cauldron (meh I forget his name...it began with an A I think...Aidan maybe? Don't think so...). Would Anjelica Huston be too type-cast for Achren? *mind goes blank* ok I can't think of any other details for the film version...
Books I'd love to see REMADE into movies:
Emma, by Jane Austen - I saw the version with Gwyneth Paltrow, and even though it was well done, I had a few complaints about it. 1) Gwyneth just isn't Emma for me. It could be that because my version of the book has a painting of a young dark-haired lady on the cover, I think of Emma as a brunette, but also Gwyneth is just painfully skinny for that era and doesn't have the bossiness the role required. 2) Harriet was way too old. She's supposed to be 17, for pete's sake! She looked more like she was 35. 3) Ewan McGregor as Frank Churchill. Well...normally I like Ewan. But he just didn't fit in this role! And the long hair...*groan* 4) The length. It was just too short to wrap up all the twists and turns! They should make a 6-hour miniseries out of it like they did with Pride & Prejudice.
Ella Enchanted, by Gail Carson Levine - WHY???????!!!!!!!! They completely ruined the whole book! And I loved the book too I thought Ann Hathaway worked as Ella, and Char's fanclub was amusing, but everything else was wrong! There shouldn't be any evil uncle (even though I normally like Cary Elwes), the magical book shouldn't talk, the ogres should not be enslaved, there should be no singing and dancing at the end, and all the entertaining language bits should not be sliced out! Grrr. It would make such a good movie if only someone would adapt it better.
The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley - Well, I must confess I haven't actually seen the movie version, but from pictures I've seen and spoilers I've read, it's not at all right. For instance, I hear that they made Morgause into the villainess and had her kill Viviane--not at all in character! They had the supposedly-19-year-old Igraine look like she was 40, Lancelet look like a 21st century surfer dude, Avalon look exactly like the matte painting it was, etc. etc. It's a very detailed book, and it seemed like all of those details were wasted on the miniseries. Meh.
So, anyway, after hearing my rants, what are the books you'd like to see filmed?

Yes! I think they should definetly make a better Ella Enchanted! Agh! They slaughtered the book!
Oh! I've always hoped they would make The Lioness Quartet books into movies that would be so awesome. MMm Ewan McGregor, yes I agree with you!
Once again, I agree wtih you on The Mists of Avalon, after I read the book I re-watched the movie. I was so sad (and confused for that matter) All the characters looked way older than they should have been.
They should also make Sabriel (by Garth Nix) into a movie, it might be a little scary at some points, but it would make an excellent movie.
Oh and I've always hoped they would make The Enchanted Forest Chronicles (Searching for Dragons ect...)By Patricia Wrede into movies as well. I love those books! ;D

Yeah I know what you mean about Ella Enchanted!! They totally ruined it, it's nothing like the book. I was disappointed when I saw it. As for the Lioness Quartet the actress could wear violet contacts, but she'd have to be red haired and that isn't very common.. but Ms. Pierce has said there are a very people looking into making movies about Alanna on her site,
http://www.tamora-pierce.com/ more specifically though on the FAQS page http://www.tamora-pierce.com/faq.htm#movies I hope they would get made but i'm afraid something like Ella Enchanted might happen and ruin the books...

It would be awesome to make the Lioness Quartet into movies!! And Ewan would be good Yeah, Orlando would be too old for Jonathan, at least for the first two or three books.....And Sabriel would be good for a movie! But if they did Sabriel, they'd have to make Lireal and Abhorsen too. They all kinda go together.
Another series that would be good for the movies (also by Garth Nix) would be the Keys to the Kingdom. Right now there's only Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, and Drowning Wednesday out, but that's not a big deal.

I did read that, and I hope it's true, and that they don't spoil the books. I half-considered e-mailing Ms. Pierce and asking her if I could redesign her web site for her because it's kind of.....blah. But then I got skittish and decided not to

The Five People you meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
It was made into a tv series in America, but I'm not American so I didn't see it.
If no-one has made this by the time I have enough money, then I will.

Heehee, you can be like PJ - you read the book, think that you'd love for it to be made into a movie, no one makes it, so you end up making it! W00t!

oh there's books I would love to be made into movies!
Wings of Dawn--an absolutely fantastic book!!! exceedingly fun! it would make a great movie!
The Thief Lord-another fun book!
Inkheart too.
for remakes- The Black Stallion--I don't like the way it was done before! simply annoying!
The Shepherd of the Hills-too old to count really
The Winning of Barabara Worth-I don't know if it exactly counted as a movie-but it was made as something-so a remake would be great! it was really fun too!

Yeah I know her site is pretty blah but you know she might now be good on the computer like you...although you could probably make a very pretty layout for the site...

J.D. Salinger has said that he doesn't want his book to be made into a movie. You should check out "Rushmore", which has many similarities to it...

The animation of that book was just dismal!

I would also like most of the other Black Stallion books to be made into movies as well-some were really fun!(as far as horse stories go )

^ RoI, I agree with you about making Inkheart into a movie. That would be awesome! *gets really excited* *oops, too excited*
And the Song of the Lioness should definately be made. I doubt anyone will completely ruin them though, not if Ms. Pierce has anything to do with it I've met her once, and she dosen't look at all like a person to let someone mess with her books. (BTW, Ewan McGregor would make a lovely Liam )
The Protector of the Small would make good movies too, so would the Immortals *debates who should play Numair* Hmm...
