haha that was a great video! unfortunately I can't watch the Swedish Grammy Awards tonight, but I'll definitely cross my fingers HammerFall will win :D

And to answer a previous question, my favorite Sonata song is definitely Don't Say A Word :punk:

I just watched 'The Evolution of Metal'. It was on Much More Music (most likely many haven't heard of it, as it is a Canadian station). And I realized how much 'main stream metal' or I guess I should say 'new metal' really is something a 'metalhead' isn't. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm more into thrashier and powerful metal, as opposed to these 'new metal' sounds (i.e. system of a down), but coming from someone who grew up and first listened to bands like those, and now who is backlashing them! But even during those times I was influenced by bands like Orgy(not metal, but still), Rammstein, and Obituary (amongst some others-I really can't remember all of them!) and I guess they steered me towards my tastes today. Ok, so Rammstein is 'main-stream' but they don't have that following or mentions here so much (nor were they mentioned in the little 'doc'). But then who am I to say such things? I wasn't born when hair-metal made its debut (thank God!), nor even when Metallica were on their uprising. But I think metalheads who listene/d to Iron Maiden, Metallica, Helloween, and now to Blind Guardian (though they were out there for a while now were they) Rhapsody, Dragonforce etc. are the real deal. I mean they aren't political, they aren't out there to 'be heard', they aren't out there to be much essentially. Their out there for the love of metal, and they don't even have to sing about 'issues' or 'booze' to be loved (though that 'evilness' I guess must alwasy be there...). There are people who may agree to this, and there are certainly people who would disagreeanother genre. And to me, when I first listened to SoaD, I didn't know what to call them0just like Green Day [are they Emo or Punk, or what the hell man]) But I guess all I'm saying is I just love the heavier, more fantastical, and music concentrated metal. (Hence power for the most part) I shall vanish now! :bye:

Excellent post.
:)

Now my ten pence worth.

Music tv really is in general worthless. Yes you may be lucky and get the odd video on there you like. But through the rest of that time you have to endure bands like Green Day or MCR (Just to name a couple of examples).
I guess I'm among that old school you were mentioning. I guess in that sense I am lucky. However....I'm not like a lot of old schoolers that seem to look down upon the newer or younger generation of fans. They're cliquey almost the point of becoming a Cult.
I don't tolerate that sort of narrow minded behaviour. So what I was around 19 years ago. It's not something to lord over people.
The older generation of fans should be welcoming the newer into the fold.
If they get into things like say...DragonForce via Slipknot or System of a Down then so be it. We all have to start somewhere. So long as the passion and love for the music is there, that's all that matters in the long run.

I've seen so many of my so-called friends leave the metal scene altogether...and that spells out the word PHASE to me. It disappoints me, but you can't force people to like something. They either get into it fully or they just like it cause all there friends are. Either way the true fans stay with the genre no matter what.

Another thing I'd like to add before this gets too long (as if it isn't already)

Expanding your horizons. When I was younger I would only keep myself within a strict genre and listen to nothing else. Just an intense listening period to that one sub-genre be it thrash, death, black, doom, speed.
Nowadays I'm more open to other genres. Yes my main passion is Power/Pagan/Folk metal.
But I still listen to all the things from the past and I thirst for more.
Through it all I never ever lost my passion for Metal in most if not all it's forms. It is a music and a fandom that compares to no other. The brother and sisterhood within the metal community is awesome and I am proud to still be a part of that.

Apologies for the length.

You two make me smile. :) I agree completely with everything you two said (except for when Erethor said that Metallica is hxc). \m/

I absolutely agree with you guys. Such awesome posts everyone. It really is a fandom like no other, with an amazing mix of people like no other. You won't find the love, passion and joy we share for the music and for eachother in the mainstream crowd. You won't find the sense of pride either. I am so extremely proud to be a metalhead and I am so proud of my fellow brothers and sisters here on the dark side of the world. An outsider will never ever understand us but he will also never ever understand what he's actually missing out on.

I swear, if the ancient Vikings were here and alive today they would, without a doubt, be metalheads :)

I think absolutely Vikings would be Metalheads.
We have taste :P

I have my own personal opinion on Metallica...this not being the general Metal Club. I don't want to go into on here.
;)

I'll post my review of the Sonata show later because I'm going out soon. But if I were to sum it up.... my neck aches, my ears are dead, and i've never flashed the horns more times in one night. If it wasn't the best day of my life then its definantly up there. \m/

i took a few pictures but im not sure how they'll turn out cuz i practically had to jump to get the camera above all the horns. :D
