Well, he'd never heard of hobbits, and they were orc size, so... yeah.
If you were Bilbo, would you have gone with the dwarves to the Lonely Mountain?

I would have out of anger.

Yeah, probably. It was a smart way to do it, well, for one who didn't know of the Ring's evilty (sp?)

I think I would have. It was not like he was doing something compleatly wrong.

Nah, probably not. I should guess Faramir would know a bit more than treebeard about what orcs and stuff look like, and see that they totally didn't look like 'em.
