I'll join! *points to banner* I'm a big Eowyn fan. She was my favorite character from the start, mostly because of the girl-kicks-butt thing, but as I read the books and found out more about her I began to appreciate her more as a character who grows and changes.

Alright Arinda.. but it's difficult to talk about her, because I can't really define her and find proper words for her personality

When I think of Eowyn, I think of sadness first. She had gone through a lot in life:
A) Her dad was killed by Orcs
B) Her mom died soon after of depression (must run in the family)
C) She's taken to live with her Uncle, who didn't really act like a Father
D) She had to watch him fade away and could do nothing
E) Who WOULDN'T be depressed with a creep like Grima following you around? Geez.
F) She wanted to fight, but couldn't, because she was girl. Ouch. (It also must have been hard growing up with Eomer and Theodred - the two warrior boys, and she the only girl among them.)
Then, during LotR...
G) Her cousin is killed
H) The Westfold is burned down
I) Theoden won't listen to her or her brother,
J) and he's near death anyway.
K) Eomer is banished by Grima (who still wants to marry her.)
WOW. That's gotta hurt.
But when I think of Eowyn, I also think of change, because throughout the story (and with the help of Faramir ) She finds joy in life, doesn't want to die, and falls in love with a really cool guy who's also hot, and who later becomes the Prince of Ithilien. YAY! That's what you call happily-ever-after.

You are so right Riniel. Couldn't have said it better myself. We needed the fresh air you brought in here badly, I think

Yep, you're right! At first, we need a new topic! Any ideas? (I'm sorry, I'm really busy at the moment in RL and so can't be here too often! )

Well, they wanted her to rule Rohan while Éomer and Theoden are in battle (in the book) so I believe, that they really loved and respected her!

yeah... I kinda feel that the Royalties of Rohan were part of the people much more than the ones in Gondor. The steward and stuff, I mean, they weren't exactly royalties... But wasn't it just Theoden who wanted Eowyn to rule?
