I avoid scary books as a rule, just as I avoid horror movies. But I rather like trilogies (fantasy). Only thing is I often end up crying at the end, jsut cos it's the end! Same??

Yes, that's about the only scary book I've ever read. Fantasy all the way!

Fantasy-wise, I've read
J.R.R. Tolkien (Just about everything of his I can get my hands on. lol)
Terry Brooks (Pretty good, but the plots and characters tend to repeat themselves)
C.S. Lewis (Love the Chronicles of Narnia!)
Dave Eddings (Just read one book of his so far, it was good!)
Susan Cooper (Good books, but more for younger ages)
Lloyd Alexander (The Prydain Chronicles are very good!)

I haven't actually read any of her books written by her alone. I've read "Rediscovery" (with Marion Zimmer Bradley) and "Tiger Burning Bright" (with MZB and Andre Norton. Both are great books.

Yes, I read quite old ones myself. Mornie, have you read T.H. White classic The Once and Future King? Or anything by G.A. Henty?

ok a few people joined-that's mint, but im lazy right now. I'll update the list soon.
Guys i think im reading the best non-fiction book in the world right now!!
It's called Stiff-The Curious Life of Human Cadavers...yea i know it sounds gross, but i love it!! it's so interesting and funny. I think i want to work with cadavers when i get older, i've always been interested in that kind of thing. I think i might be in like a CSI kind of group-that would be really cool to investigate crime scenes and work in a crime lab. It's a good book though, don't turn it down cuz of it's subject-that's unless you have a really weak stomach

I've read one of Tamora Pierce's books and I didn't like it that much. Elenya, I agree with you on Terry Brooks. the books are very good but the plot and character repetitions eventually get to me. has anyone read Margaret Weis and R.A. Salvatore? they are, arguably, the best authors of modern fantasy
I tend to stick with fantasy, action/thrillers, and some historical fiction. I have a thing for an elite band of heroes out to save the world, plenty of battles, plenty of warriors and enigmatic travelers and powerful wizards. thrillers are always awesome. big explosions, countdowns, Navy SEALs, someone wanting to blow up the country... that kind of thing.
